I learned about American football emigrating from the Netherlands in 73. The name that stuck to my mind: Roger Staubach. Impressive.

Roger Staubach is my favorite Dallas Cowboys player of all-time!!! He led the Cowboys to four Super Bowls and did y’all know he played at Navy and won the Heisman Trophy. He is still a living legend who resides in Dallas today.

A winner in both the NFL and in life. A true American hero who proudly served his country in war. I remember so many games when it seemed hopeless in the 4th qtr and he somehow he pulled it off--- in big playoff games no less.

An off-the-field memory is Roger with other players and commentaries on an NFL Sunday show and everyone was toasting and Roger had a glass of milk, only one. Why I remember that I don't know, but that's Roger.

"Roger The Doger" was as good as any NFL quarterback that ever lived. There are so many great quarterbacks to chose from now. How can one measure such a thing to say this one is better then then all the rest. But, Roger is as much a contender as any of them.🏈⭐🇺🇸

Yeah winning two Super Bowls, coming off the bench to beat the 49ers in 1972, and the Hail Mary play would inspire that belief among teammates.

This is NOT the template for the greatest NFL quarterback. This is the Temple for the greatest human being who had the privilege to play in the NFL. A wonderful man, a soldier and an example for all youth who would even like to play the position. Simply put...An officer,, a gentlemen and one hell of a good football player. To this day, he still defines what it means to be at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys.

If you think Roger could throw a great football pass, you should have seen him throw a baseball from deep centerfield with a runner on third.

He's still no.2 behind Otto Graham all-time. They are the 2 most complete QBs who could pass, ball carry, make plays, lead & win all at the top level. Keep in mind Staubach lost 4 years due to his commitment to the Navy which included a Viet Nam tour.

Great highlights! You're EXACTLY right. I remember shortly before retiring, Staubach passing Graham in passer rating for #1 (though I notice some "revisionist" history/stats to reverse this) He remains a hero of mine AND a role model. A great Christian, Husband, & Father and SMART- big real estate guy & remember him hawking those Anderson Little suits??? Good ol' days. Can you imagine CAPTAIN AMERICA kneeling for the flag/anthem?? Best ever. Thanks for posting.

Roger Staubach was how the Cowboys basically invented the modern passing game that you're seeing now.

Cowboys were the first team to use the shotgun formation, unless you count the 49ers who used for a few games previously before scraping it.

@@dukewilson14 Plus they started all the complicated pre-snap motion and complicated pass routs and blocking schemes. They were truly innovative. I remember watching my Patriots play them and think, how the Pats looked like a bunch of amateurs compared to them. When Tom Landry and Roger Staubach came out of the tunnel you knew we were screwed!

I'm not a young guy and I've seen many many folks in various sporting activities . Wihtout a doubt Staubach was the first athlete to really catch my attention , the second was Dale Earnhardt (who some will say wasn't an athlete) and the third was Manny Pacquiao . Everyone has a right to who they choose as their favourites those three are mine plain and simple .

Namath? Pleaseeeeeee. WE all know that if Roger started his NFL career at 22 instead of 27 we would be speaking of the greatest QB to ever play the game. The only names that should be mentioned with #12 are Montana, Brady and Unitas. If you like me grew up being a Cowboy fan in the 70's. Roger hung the moon...Still does.

as far as Dallas Cowboy history, from 1960-1989, because ANYTHING or anyone associated with Jerry Jones after those years were NEVER anything about Dallas other than the hostile takeover that made them the biggest jokes from 1990-present…Staubach was best ever in Dallas followed closely by Danny White…”Boy” Aikman was part of the ‘Dallas Hurricanes’…nuff said
