Crypto investment requires a thoughtful approach, considering factors like exchange types, market volatility, and the distinction between coins and tokens. One must navigate through scarce quality information and understand the significance of market capitalization over mere price tags. Emphasizing self-custody, the importance of a diverse portfolio, and aligning investments with personal time horizons are key. Moreover, crypto offers a unique hedge against traditional financial systems, but it's crucial to stay vigilant ensuring secure and informed investment decisions..managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... At the heart of this evolution is Eugenia Eiland, whose deep understanding of both cryptocurrency and traditional trading has been instrumental. Her holistic approach to investment and commitment to staying abreast of market trends make her an invaluable ally in navigating this new era in cryptocurrency investment..

BlockStream players had commit access to Bitcoin Core, and BlockStream agents censored r/bitcoin to make it so that only small block voices were heard. BlockStream (and Adam Back) were the beneficiaries of the small block win. The whole idea that “people chose” small blocks is enormously naive. Now, look at the junk they’re pushing for layer 2 like the Liquid Network, which is a sick joke.

Matthew, I’m one of your biggest fans, but your biases definitely distort your evaluation of some topics. In your world there is only bitcoin and shitcoins. I’d posit that there is bitcoin, shitcoins, and altcoins. There are some technical advances going on in the altcoin space which are worthy of consideration and discussion. Ex. Dynamic blocksize, privacy enhancements to mention a few. Have you even read Roger’s book? To be fair you should and then refute the facts he states rather than making up your own, such as that in your statement that “large blocks will reduce decentralization”. That is analogous to the telco’s saying the internet is inadequate for voice calls. Everything evolves and what was impossible become possible and commonplace. What is the increase is TB/dollar since bitcoin’s inception? Same for bandwidth. I’d like to hear your take on how important you think having a global p2p money is and what is the top contender to fill that void.

The problem is education on BTC is so demanding people don't take the time and they just go about their days, then something like this percolates to the top of the culture consumption cycle and it gives BTC undue negative press. So annoying. I've been telling these friends about BTC when it was below $20k. And as soon as negative press comes around, they message me about it. I just want to say, "Whatever. SOOO grateful you devoted a full episode to the Ver interview, Matt. Funny thing is, Tucker has done interviews with 3 of the most profound maxis on earth (some time ago). . .Michael Saylor, Max Keiser & Nayib Bukele. . .with seemingly positive results (Tucker seemed thoroughly orange pilled). So it just goes to show that the Ver saga is complex enough that it requires diligent scrutiny. .. as you executed so eloquently. Tucker clearly owes a rebuttal/clarification interview to everyone, to set the record straight. Saylor has shown he's not immune to some (maybe small) degree of political appeasement, so maybe he's not the right choice. Why so much aggresion towards XMR? Unlike Bitcoin, Monero became real currency, that is in usage. Of course, it has dark side, nevertheless it's usable and it's in real usage. It isn't store of value coin, yet keeps value pretty stable, between 140-160 last year with increase to about 210 USD last days. I don't think it will go down anytime soon, as there's need for such coin, with strong privacy. Consider, that despite deplatforming and banishment from most of CEXs, it still keeps value. Last week a 9 UTXO consolidation cost me $14 and took 6 hrs. Would larger blocks fix this? The first line in the Bitcoin White Paper: Bitcoin a Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System. Yet all we hear now, even from Jerome Powell, is that it's a store of value. I believe in Bitcoin, but I see both sides of this argument.

Would larger blocks fix this? They might - but then it would also lead to the destruction of what makes Bitcoin so unique. It takes it down the path of what B cash and Ethereum have done. Centralized garbage that's no different to the current world financial system of fiat and central banking. You can't have everything, and what Bitcoin gives up in transaction ability it takes back in true decentralization. $14 seems pretty reasonable to me when you consider the power of Bitcoin's network, also how much data was involved in the consolidation of 9 UTXO's? Given the average fees at the moment hang around 6 sats/vb and you waited 6 hours to complete it, sounds like you were low priority or picked a higher fee time to do it. Remember, no one has a right to blockspace - thats determined by the free market.

Roger Ver is definitely someone you shouldn't overlook. He's (often) got a way with words that can really sway people. His writings have managed to win over not just everyday folks, but also those who usually think critically and ended up caught in his web. His mental tricks can be pretty captivating. He can be quite a pain in the butt, an annoying mosquito and almost infected one of my own bitcoin-peers if I didn't intervene.

@Matthew, just a sidenote, what you accused Trucker of doing in interview with Roger, he did also in interview with Putin and others. People he likes always receive only softball questions, and he never pushes back when they spew nonsensical ideas. Only in this case you are knowledgeable about the subject so you see right through it. That's why viewers who are educated in different subjects, that Tucker interviews people about, complain about his style and bias.

Exactly 100%, it's maddening. It's not possible for people to be experts at everything. There is only so much time in a day you can spend learning about different topics. So sometimes people trust 'authorities' like Tucker in matters they are not very familiar with. For people in the know, the Putin interview was filled with lies and just blatant Kremlin propaganda that went completey unchallenged. And lots of people just went with it. Like now lots of people will be repeating this nonsense Ver has spewed.

It's just annoying to people who are already familiar with a topic, but they are never the majority. It's dumb to expect Tucker to do months of research on every topic or person he interviews. His interviews are part of the research. Not everyone learns the same way.

Another reason the hijacked meme doesn't work is that, in a canonical hijacking, the passengers are trapped on the plane and forced to go where the hijackers decide. Whereas with Bitcoin, the passengers (users) can step off the plane anytime since bitcoin's code is open-source. They can build their own plane, they could call it BCH for example.

I dont think there is an issue with considering bigger blocks as a solution to the TPS problem (I think Roger Ver is a problem unto himself). Yes there are other solutions like the lightning network but storage is the cheapest component of an IT system so upgrading your storage is easier than upgrading other components. And if I recall correctly the proposal was a doubling of the block size...its still at only 0.50 TB. I bought an 8 TB external HDD for $200 ages ago. So this would have doubled the speed at a minor expense. Lets assume we doubled it from the start. We would have a blockchain that is 1 TB in size. That is 15 years of transactions x 2. Lets assume we quadrupled the size. In 15 years of bitcoins existence, we would today, have a 2 TB blockchain with 4x the transactions hence 4x the speed. I may be missing something and please correct me, but a larger block would make bitcoin faster to use, more likely to get adopted by retailers and become a useable means of exchange and would not inherently destabilize the network.

long time ago, people mined to their own node. it was apart of core. so technically when you can a node you made money. But mining became centralized. pools started to exist. there was no money in having a node. People were too cheap to pay for storage. that was part of the problem.

As per the reasons given in your discussion of 'The Big Block Movement' surely these points can be revisited as technology develops, if you are being intellectually honest? 1) More difficult to download and verify - Internet upload/download speeds continue to increase, making the download issue less prominent in every passing year? 2) Hurts decentralisation - Computer technology is also still in a growth curve improving rapidly. Again, this means more people could download and run the version of BTC the big blockers originally proposed with a smaller and smaller impact on decentralisation? 3) More expensive to run a node - Data storage technology is following a similar development curve to computer technology. The price of both memory, and speed of internal chips, has been on a substantial fall for decades. 4) Higher TPS would clearly help as more people come to the blockchain. I appreciate no one wants to ensure another 'block size war' , and that it appears there were definitely nefarious intentions in the Big Block movement, but as a stand alone aspect, higher TPS would be a good thing.
@Fudmottin
@Fudmottin Ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure only a minority of bitcoiners run full nodes. That is a shame. As things stand now, you do need a decent network connection. The equipment to run a node may not be expensive, but it isn't free. It takes a while to download the entire blockchain over normal consumer broadband.
@travisthompson1679
@travisthompson1679 Ай бұрын
I don't think Matt's or anyone's position is that Bitcoin will never ever increase block size or change, just that it wasn't the right call in 2017 or now. The whole argument is around things being cheap so people can run nodes, so obviously if tech hits a point where everyone could run a node with twice or tens time the block size then there would be no reason not to upgrade the protocol.
@Fudmottin
@Fudmottin Ай бұрын
@@travisthompson1679 My node currently only has 17 connections. It is on a residential broadband connection. I have noticed that I occasionally experience high latency. That is, my node has taken several seconds to, rarely, 30 seconds to fulfill a request. I'm running lottery miner that uses my node. With my luck, that high latency will kick in at the time the miracle occurs where I solve a block. Commercial miners and exchanges are on high speed internet running more powerful servers to reduce latency.
