In this video, I discuss Bitcoin consensus, and who actually controls Bitcoin.
As a distributed global system without a leader or active living founder, Bitcoin relies on the messy process of economic nodes, miners, mining pools, exchanges, devs, hodlers, influencers/educators/podcasters working together to try to arrive at a consensus as to how Bitcoin should work and which features it should have.
The fact that Bitcoin is so difficult to change is a feature, not a bug, since if Bitcoin were easy to change, it would be an easy attack vector.

Re the blockstream jade, you said it doesn't have a secure element chip but a virtual one. Does this mean if I wanted to put my seed phrase on one and give it to a friend to keep in a geographically different location this would be a better candidate than say a trezor where the secure element could be attacked by him or someone malicious who got a hold of it? I don't want to risk a copy of my seed phrase but a hw wallet in another country would be a decent idea, what is the security risk with that? Thanks love your vids

With your last mic I pretty much only heard your voice. Idk how accurate it is to your actual voice but I never felt it was lacking. If this new mic is higher quality then it's probably because of the way its being processed. There's a good amount of reverb with this new setup. It sounds like you're next to me and in another room at the same time. Using a high pass filter around 60hz will help eliminate some of the low end. I think it's a good rule in general for anything that isn't music. It's weird when people's voices have bass. Most people don't have good enough speakers to play those low frequencies anyway so it sounds fine. But if you do, it is noticeable. Your recording software might have some pre made EQ and sound cancellation settings you can play around with. Or maybe your mic came with some software?

I have a question, when BTC hard forked and BCH was created, would it have been possible for exchanges to decide to make the "new" fork's ticker BTC, and have called the OG BTC by the original rules "BTC classic" or "shit coin" or whatever? From my understanding that is what happened with ETH and ETH classic? It would seem that if another block size war occurred and the exchanges got on board with the changes and labelled the new BTC as BTC, it could potentially gain more transactions from people who don't know any better. Don't want any of that to happen, just playing devil's advocate and trying to understand potential centralization of BTC risks.

I am guessing Michael Taylor, Black rock, the US government, the twins. All the major exchanges and corporations etc. Or is this a trick question and the answer is nobody?

Great work. Can you offer a presentation on the running your own node options, pro/cons and different types. You mentioned that if not transacting through your own node it doesn't help the network. Thanks.

Talk about the ASS-load of bitcoin that just got lost in these fires. HW wallets and seed phrases burned up with no backup. Chisel your words in steel, friends!

If I had received the $200k I needed to accumulate 500k Bitcoin in 2011 I'd probably control the price today. I was laughed at. Had they listened to me everyone would be worth $20 billion from tax loopholes involving Second Life's Linden dollar.

Bitcoin doesn't have a CEO or leader, and Bitcoin nodes get to choose what software they run. Devs don't

I don’t understand why you think uploading 12TB per month of blocks/chainstate/mempool for my 2 nodes is not making a difference to the network… Adds over 500 connection capacity and 90th percentile tx propagation times for various leechers like breadwallet that still connect directly. *edit* And doesn’t having a larger network have some impact on the underlying value of a network (?)

12 TB? Are you talking about Ethereum instead of Bitcoin?
@ericmed
@ericmed 14 күн бұрын
@@Bitcoin_University No - new nodes download blocks from 10 outgoing connections totaling about 720GB collectively across all 10. My nodes in particular upload to a lot of new clients totaling TBs per month

@@Bitcoin_UniversityYou would know this better than me but wouldn’t a larger network inherently be a more valuable network? KZbin keeps removing my comment but basically new clients connect to 10 nodes and download 720GB across all 10. A reachable node with 250 connections can easily upload 6TB per month in block propagation + new blocks to clients

It sounds like the 2017 affair was the last chance anyone could hope to change the Bitcoin protocol since the ability to get consensus has greatly diminished since then with the massive expansion of the network

Yes, the bigger the network becomes and the more constituents, the more difficult it becomes to change Bitcoin in any way

I just thought about the idea that black rock could possibly rug pull the ETF holders by forking Bitcoin and deciding that the ETFs would be backed by the forked Bitcoin. They already said something about it in the small print.

Yeah that only applies to the ETF holders. Regular bitcoiners will get free fork coins and be able to sell them to buy more bitcoin!

I don’t disagree with your point of view on bitcoin and consensus but it is definitely nuanced and hard to know for sure if the small blockers really did win fair and square. Most of the content I consume pushes the same narrative as you and I’m inclined to believe it but this debate between guy swann and Steve Patterson reveals that there is indeed a lot of nuance. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp-rn5Z7irGJisk
