One “upgrade” for this rig is to put a soft glow in the dark bead on the stinger. Run it so that if it goes over the trace and the stinger hook. The flow in the dark aspect is a bonus but it’s mainly to keep the stinger exactly where you want. You can slide it up and down as needed. When using a softer/floppier bait the soft bead stops the stinger moving down which stops the soft bait folding on itself. When a fish hooks up on the stinger it’ll still move down if needed.

@@RogerOsborneFishing Been meaning to get back on here to confirm that yes, even a complete amateur like me can up their fishing game immediately with this rig! Caught the biggest bream of my life first time trying it out a few weeks ago (on a beach that I have never caught a fish on before as well). And guess what - brought him in on the stinger! Then, a few casts later, I reeled in my first ever salmon, a big one too. Had some more luck with this rig up the coast about a week ago as well, catching another bream which might have even bigger than the first!

@@jimmybernasconi9000 Hey Jimbo, quick question. I am in a similair situation where I am an amateur. Can I ask what bait you were using and also what beach?
@jimmybernasconi90002 жыл бұрын
@@christopherwilson248 Hey mate. Literally just went to Coles and got a handful of the fresh prawns from the deli. I used to use the frozen ones you get at the servo but the fresh ones from Coles (either king or banana, uncooked obviously) are much better. I’ve even caught fish using the uncooked unseasoned packaged ones from woolies. Beach-wise, bagged the bream and salmon at Mollymook beach in NSW and then the other big bream up at Kingscliff near Tweed Heads. Since then, I’ve also had some luck off the beach at North Steyne in Sydney when the wind and waves have been moderate. Caught a bream and a dart last session and then hooked a HUGE salmon (could’ve been a shark I tell you) but it broke my line so I went home haha. But yeh mate, from one amateur to another, I’ve found fresh prawns and good conditions to be the biggest factors when it comes to catching decent fish. My cast is weak as and I don’t back myself to read a beach that well - just looking for the spots where the break meets the gut as Roger has taught us. Good luck out their my man!

Just stumbled upon this video. As a angler myself based in the UK it's always nice to see what other parts of the world do. Over here we call this a "pennel rig." Personally I use them a lot for my fishing. Look up "Pulley Pennel dropper" or a "Up and over rig" although the line crimps/Metal sleves you use arn't really a thing here we tend to use lower profile knots on our pennels and most rigs to allow bigger baits to slide over the knots easier to make better use of the "stinger." Tight lines
@RogerOsborneFishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, thanks for saying Hello. Sorry for the slow reply. I looked up the Pennel Rig as you suggested. It seems that the sinker is fixed similar to what we call a Paternoster Rig. With the deadliest rig I have a running sinker on the main line with a shorter leader of about 40cm (15 inches). I trust that the Pulley Pennel rig works well. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the tips! Gonna give this a try - have been using similar 'stiinger' or snapper snell setups for a while, but actually, I've usually used a larger hook as the stinger, and my thinking is that because it's further up the line/trace, there's more chance of a larger fish getting hooked there, instead of the bottom hook, which I can then downsize to a smaller hook for the pickier and smaller specimens. Would this make sense, or do you have a reason for using the smaller hook as the stinger?

Hi Peter, it is best to use 20lb mono and yes I use a running sinker on the main line. The rig is simple. Put the sinker on your main line then tie on the rig 😃

Great video! Does that rig catch Tailor? I have always used 3 ganged hooks for that species.
