Hey Roger, I’ve come up with a small alteration to the stinger rig you might like. It incorporates a float stopper bead so you can adjust the distance between the stinger and bottom hook and stops the stinger sliding down and the bait folding until a fish strikes. Will come up if you search ‘improved keeper hook rig’ if you’re interested. Really enjoy your vids mate, look forward to the next one 🤙🏼

It’s hard for me to imagine how a running stinger hook would be able to hook a fish in the mouth when the fish takes the bait since the running stinger hook would move on the line when you yank at the line, as that is what happens when you set the hook on a fish. I guess I will give this rig a try to see how it works and if it would work for me or not. Thanks for sharing this unique rig!

Thanks so much Roger! Love all your videos, learning alot. I tried your stinger hook, and my first catch was a Solefish. Caught it from the surf, Port Edward, South Africa. I am hoping to adjust it so I can catch Shad (Elf). I don't like the wire steel traces that most fishermen use around here. I also made a stinger rig with a float to try and catch mid-top feeders. Only planning on catching edible fish, as food prices are rocketing in my country. Persistence is key! Thanks so much for all your advice, never stop teaching/sharing. Running leger pennel rig. Old as the hills. The number 1 rig for sea bass here in the uk. Add a bead swivel and bead in that order to your mainline before tying on the rig. Add a short length of lighter line to the swivel in snaggy areas as a rotten bottom. Attach your sinker to the rotten bottom. Hooks should point in opposite directions for optimum hook up rate.

Excellent video, is the 4/0 hook to big? What knot do u use on your rigs? Keep them coming, very well explained 👏
@jaykeinnes6793 Жыл бұрын
4/0 is a good size for flatty, tailor, salmon and medium jewies. 2/0 is a great all-rounder as a bream can get it down but most good 2/0s should hold a good Jewie, I like the mustard Viking 2x hooks, have stopped very big grouper in their tracks while drummer fishing and wnever had a hook failure. A big thing is match the hook size to the bait, you want a natural presentation with good hook exposure.

Hi Roger Love your channel and now spreading out to my contacts, thank you. I need your advice or perhaps share the appropriate video that can help. I just can't understand why I cannot just have 1 fishing rod size/rig which I can use on the beach or lake/river? Can I simply have a relatively tall rod for the beach and still use that for lake/river fishing? Just seems complicated. I do understand that hook and sinker selection. I have 2 beach rods which I like to use in the beach and also in lakes such as lake Macquarie or windang I just want to understand the right tools for the right fishing location (beach/lake)
@RogerOsborneFishing Жыл бұрын
Hi AHZ, I often use my beach rode in the lake, especially if I want to cast further distance to reach good water. You can always use a lighter leader if your main line breaking strain is a bit heavy. You can certainly use some rods for multiple purposes. This is a big topic. There are many variables that influence equipment choice.

@davidfargetta2851 Жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, how to you get the big hook on the end of the wire trace? Does the metal cap come off and go back on?
@RogerOsborneFishing Жыл бұрын
It is a metal sleeve that you clamp shut with pliers. You thread the wire through the sleeve, then the eye of the hook, and back through the sleeve, then clamp tight.

The weight is attached as a running sinker on your main line. That is, you thread the sinker on to your main line and then tie on the rig.

I thought for slab baits you always want the hook coming out the skin side? Because the flesh side can go mushy and cover the barb.

Hi Roger, I'm about to change most of my rigs and setups after watching your beach fishing videos. One question do you match the wire leader with the main line in lb? Eg 30lb main line with a 30lb wire trace - cheers
@jaykeinnes6793 Жыл бұрын
The thinnest wire you can get away with, tailor use 20-40lb sharks use 70lbs up. I use a halco wire that you melt the coating and fuse together, works great but might want to pre rig incase its windy
