What an amazing timpani repair lesson. I always want to play these drums. Very cool video Jim!

Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully it will help someone trying to figure these out since they are a little different animals. You need to "Carl Palmer" your set!

@@jimflys2 are you saying add two huge gongs and timpani! 😂😂😂😂 I don’t think they would fit in the room! Then I have to learn an ELP song 🤔😂🥁 but I have cover I did yesterday with all of the drums from 6 - 18 set up! Maybe I’ll release it this week? It’s is crazy to play that many drums … 7 is usually enough, but 9 is crazy! 🤪😜😝😛😂

I remember these. The missing rods were for fine tuning. Great video!

Yeah, you played on that same set as me, Michael. Right?
@zeichner42 Жыл бұрын
@@jimflys2 Yes. I remember that each drum had a fairly limited range before it would choke out. Still, I have to admire the engineering that went into having the tuning controlled from a single point. When you were in the sweet spot, the tone was clear, because the head was always in tune with itself.

So helpful! Question - How do you lock/unlock the pedal? My 26" accidently got locked so it can't move up/down and I can't figure out how to fix it.
@jimflys2 Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, Under the heel there is a rectangular metal block that can rotate to lock the pedal or unlock if that is the case. Simple lay the timpano on it side so you can get under the pedal and rotate that piece back to where the heel will now be able to come up. Page 9, parts numbered 194 and 197 are what they look like. Should be pretty intuitive how to move them. www.drumarchive.com/Rogers/Rogers1975Parts.pdf

I am looking for a couple Rogers timpani foot pedal brake pads to regen a drum. Do you or an acquaintance have any suggestions?
@jimflys2 Жыл бұрын
Sorry. I have made brake pads from leather and glued them on with other timp.

Sonor had 1/4 -20 tension rods that had a standard drum key head at one time, but I'm not sure if they still make them.
@jimflys2 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I I think they are now the slotted screwdriver type. The DW 1/4-20 are headless and too short anyway. Need to be about 3/4 to 1" in length. Thanks for the comment!

I've got a working set of 4 with the original owner's manual that I'll be selling. 29, 26, 23, 20" Any interest?

No. But you might want to put them out there to some schools that might need to get a set. Probably Reverb is a good place to hit. but shipping! WOW!
