The first time I heard Sound of Silence by Disturbed my jaw dropped! A powerful rendition of a beautiful song. When the pandemic lock down took place there was a youtube video of people- less places ( like the eiffel tower) with that version of the song. Again....jaw dropping.

Glad you're feeling better! Great song recommendation. I was driving when it first came out and had to pull over...couldn't believe it was the same guy who sang down with the sickness. Still gives me goose bumps. Not long ago I heard a song he did with Ann Wilson.

Glad you are feeling better, the "trots" are the worse. To catch you up on my sulfur burner, you were right, it seems like my plants are growing better since I started using it. They are greener and just plain healthier looking beyond being bug free, some that have never bloomed are blooming now. We'll see what happens as the year goes on. I've been watching you ever since I started growing orchids and you have never failed to give me good advice.

I collect rainwater, spring to fall, it is kept in a large rubber bin (60 litres) with an antimicrobial disc (made with silver) that is used in aquariums and water butts; keeps it fresh and clean. I also add 2 drops of bleach per litre as well as I do collect it as runoff from the roof. Does not harm my orchids at all. Product is called FreshaTank by Aquamidas. I replace the disc every couple of years. I have no place to put an RO unit in my tiny condo, and hate to purchase the 4 litre jugs of distilled water with the amount of plastic involved.
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsaiАй бұрын
When I was thinking of cleaning everything and starting to collect rain water I heard about the silver disc - they do work (but I could never keep the growroom roof clean with all the muck that comes down from the house roof.

It's supposed to sleet here, starting tonight and then on and off until Thursday. I would't mind snow on my 40th birthday next Monday but I guess that won't happen, as the temperatures are supposed to get up to 12°C again on Sunday. I'm a huge fan of Disturbed, have been for +20 years, but I was more than skeptical when they did this cover of an already absolutely perfect song. It's most likely the performance at Conan O'Brian? So good! That performance earned them a grammy nomination in 2017, but David Bowie won, posthumously (edited because I had to get my facts straight - I thought they had won that grammy). I still get goosebumps when I listen to that performance on Conan. I had no idea David Draiman, the singer, could sing that softly. Will definitely go have a listen again now.

I just 'came across it' in KZbin suggestions and I don't really like heavy metal so just wanted to see what a mess they made of a good song. Boy was I surprised - a brilliant performance. The orchestral backing is superb especially the added 'drama' of the Timpani.

I must say I am very fussy about the way my plants look too. What is the point of a beautiful bloom on an awful looking plant 😂

Glad you are feeling better. What exactly is RO water? Also is it OK to use water from a water filter from my kitchen, as tap water in my area has alot calcium.

I think some of my rainwater contains decomposed nettles due to some falling in rainwater collectors. As they sell nettle tincture for plants I eased my mind by considering it money saved. Nothing died either. 😊Plus I'm more likely to kill anything by overwatering it. "The genus Coelogyne. A synopsis" by Dudley Clayton from nhbs. Great book and more in the direction of plant identification books so keeps holding value years to come. Asked it as my Christmas present in July and will read a poem at family party. xD But yeah, I will gift money to most of my family as well or gift card related to health things. No new devices (and set up services) to grandparents from children either as those were their birthday gifts. Fingers crossed everything will bloom like before by March and you wil get to compete in even more categories.

I have to respectfully disagree with you about rainwater. I collect rainwater from an asphalt tile roof and have never had any issues. Also, my rain gutters fill up with pine needles that helps to filter the water. I use an old piece of hose to filter it before it goes into the rain barrel. Since orchids in the wild are watered with rain water that flows down the tree trunks and is not “clean”, I do not think orchids are suffering any ill effects. Your roof is probably closer to how the orchids in the wild are watered since your roof has tree detritus that mimics nature. Also, rain water is free and the only cost is the setup so it pays for itself. Just my thoughts on the matter. Feel better.
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsaiАй бұрын
Rain water in the wild is fresh and oxygenated not left for months in a barrel getting stale and stagnant allowing the 'problems' to fester/multiply. Still better than most tap water though.
