Well if that's the case, the crash at the Dauphine this year is worrying. It looked like it was impeding his performance in the mountain stages, especially stage 8 but even 6 and 7; at his best he could've easily dropped everyone there long before the finish.

Primož tactics: following Pogačar in first half of TDF then Pogi will start to fade and Jonas form will start getting better at the end, so in second half of TDF just try to follow Jonas, who will have time defecit from beginning of TDF as his form will not be 100%

I dont get your criticism of Hindley and Vlasov. In last years Tour Hindley came 7th, but he lost the podium only after he crashed. This year, he came 3rd in the only WT stage race he was Captain (Tirreno). And Vlasov already Top 5ed the Tour and was also in the Top 6 of every stagerace he rode this year, even as support for Roglic (Paris-Nice and Dauphine). So I would strongly disagree: Both have shown, that they can up there until the big 4 will battle it out.

You've talked this week about how sprinters aren't treated well by the richer teams. Please, in the remaining five days we've got, give us your opinion as to the chances of Cavendish to get that record of total TdF stage wins. Go back and look at how perfect his old-school teammate of Morkov and their former Quickstep trainer from that four-win TdF a few years back helped the Manx Missile win earlier this month in the Tour of Hungary's Stage 2, to become the male cyclist with the most sprint wins in their career (164).
@cuebj6 ай бұрын
With big teams not taking sprinters, Cav has a chance but he'll have to stay healthy and high altitude efforts might affect him more now he is both older and has remains of Epstein Barr in his system. The older we get, the slower we recover. Can he recover from mountain stages enough to sprint like he used to? Will he be desperate and push too hard ending up in a bad crash in the last km? He also has old team support who may not recover like they used to. The team car will be a long way back so getting water bottles will take more effort than for teams with a leader in GC.

I was interested to see that you mentioned Primos's crash near a stage finish when he went from left to right and tried to cut into the grourp of 3 lead by Mads and then crash. He blaimed the others while I always thought it was his fault and a bad decision on his part, something I think he shows too often. Why was he back in the pack on the Tour where he hit a hay bale he didn't see coming. Probably wouldn't have happened if he had been near the front or was paying attention. I know he is very good, but I question his inconsistencies and how he seems to beat himself - witness when he crashed 3 times on the last stage of Paris Nice and choked on the Tour ITT against Tadej. I doubt he'll win this year.
@ogradar856 ай бұрын
@ChrisHornerCycling You keep giving an example from last year's Giro (the photo you posted is from stage 16) as his bad moment. That's blatantly false, because he was riding injured at that moment - riding with a 5 cm hole in his thigh after a crash in stage 11 (also not his fault). That's not a bad moment, that's riding within your limitations. You also gave the last stage from this year's Dauphine as an example of his bad moment - also riding injured from 2 crashes. I'm not saying he doesn't have bad moments, you're just giving wrong examples...

One would think that if Roglic has a history of being in crashes a lot (which he does), why would he not TRAIN for this? I know plenty of non-pros who were crash-prone and then spent time working on this (like every other skill one could work on as a cyclist...cornering, descending, climbing, sprinting, etc). It seems strange that this has not been a priority to get figured out for this rider! TOTALLY agree about tactical riding. It's Jonas 100%. And he has a poker face when he races, unlike riders like Remco who wears his feelings on his bike jersey. Also sorry but Remco has NO chance! He can't climb well enough. Team wise, I think Bora is good, UAE better and Visma best with Wout and Sepp (good enough to get a not 100% Jonas to the win in Nice). I think Jonas will get better but he does not seem confident and funny enough, I think he was swayed by his responsibility to the team/teammates to join the race. Given that last statement, if Primoz had stayed at Visma, and Jonas bowed out of '24 (even his DS said he is still shook by the crash), Primoz would have this alread won (yeah, if he holds onto his handlebars😂 and made up to Sepp)
