This game is part of my teenage years. This, Shadow Hearts and Kingdom Hearts are the only games that made me really sympathise with the characters. I think the emotion response it was trying to elicit was the same as in dark cloud 2, where in the death of a major character happened in Chapters 3, 5, and 7. The difference being in that Dark cloud 2 built up these characters the best they could before offing them. No matter how many times I play DC2, Master Crest's death will always manage to bring a tear to my eyes because you get to see the impact it has on the surrounding characters Lyn is crushed, and it shows. It also effects you, because you spent hours doing everything you can; Fighting bosses, time traveling, Fighting Gaspard and those goddamned Evil Flames. Hell, you have to sit through Monica's unskippable Spheda lecture. And then, as soon as you're ready to save the day and bring the legendary sage to glory, it's all ripped away from you in his final act of heroism. The way you describe it, Rogue Galaxy does the exact same thing, but crams it down within a couple of minutes.

That's my one gripe out this game is the combat. I like the action/rpg part. But the stupid amounts of damage you and your party members constantly take. I feel like I'm CONSTANTLY buying metric ass tons of healing potions, not so much for myself, but to keep my party afloat. And every. single. battle. is like that. Other than that? Great game!
@nesoukkefka17415 жыл бұрын
Yeah the combat is dumb : -Random are nothing but AoE spell spam -Boss just spam Illusion Sword and any character that has an Attack Boosting ability. And in any case if you take damage just use Items, really there's nothing more to the combat than that.

@Tartar9 жыл бұрын
On a sidenote, what do you think of the Kingdom Hearts series?
@SuperDerek9 жыл бұрын
+Tartar Keeping in mind that it's been maybe 10 years since I played them... My opinion is generally favorable, though I think there was something I didn't like about the controls in I that I recall they fixed in II, it may have been camera-related. I also recall disliking that they removed building gumi ships, which was I remember being one of my favorite parts of KH1. Because I didn't play any of the handheld titles, the start of KHII was really confusing, but I eventually got over it. The reason it's important to note that I played them last over 10 years ago is because it was long before I played critically, observantly. and my opinions of it now are through the eyes of someone less discerning. I'm thinking about revisiting the series in the HD ports to the PS3. Hopefully they hold up! :)
@Tartar9 жыл бұрын
SuperDerek RPGs You should try Kingdom Hearts 2 if you get the chance. It improved on everything KH1 did, although the Gummi ship building has been removed (although I liked this since it allowed them to make some more focused and better Gummi ship missions).
@108Stars9 жыл бұрын
+Tartar I actually prefer KH1 a lot. One reason is that it better transports the Disney charme with the simple love message in contrast to KH2's plot with its bigger focus on the quite generic pseudo cool anime like Organization XIII. That stuff totally missed the point of KH for me, and what was good because it was different and light hearted became more of the common Japanese storytelling with overstyled villains. The second reason is that I found the boss battles to have too many context sensitive commands that would be required and turn much of the battles into passive viewing sessions. I ended up being somewhat disappointed by KH2, and for me it has been a one hit wonder to this day, with a bunch of okay sequels and spin-offs. Very much like Disney movies tend to be followed by lesser direct to video sequels.
@Tartar9 жыл бұрын
108Stars The thing I prefer with the sequel is the combat. It's much more fluid and visceral and controls better in general. I'll also take the final battle vs Xenmas over the Ansem boss fight any time.
@andrewwebsterphillips9 жыл бұрын
+Tartar I notice with KH I absolutely love the theme of the game. Revisiting all the Disney worlds I have grown up with is so nostalgic. But, to be honest I really don't like the combat. You are right that it was improved in KHII however. Oddly enough my favorite KH game is Birth by Sleep on PSP. I loved the leveling system in that game and felt it was a huge improvement over the others in terms of combat.
