Tip for Barbarian: They get *really* good after you find upgrades that keep you in the air for longer. Their ground attack does x2.5 damage and always crits, so it feels way more powerful, but with a few upgrades your aerial attacks make you a spinning torrent of doom. Finding a certain secret weapon helps teach you about their aerial combat strength too. Bard is definitely hard to use, it takes a lot of experience with spin kicks, aerial manoeuvres, and jump cancelling to use them well. But their secret Fabled class variant is much easier to use, and they're one of the best magic-build classes available. Also, the upside down trait (Vertigo) was removed in the last patch

To address a few problems mentioned in the video: - You get to select one of three heirs each time you die, so you can choose the class you like - The three heirs can be rerolled upto 5 times i.e if you don't like any of the three you can just re-roll - The upside down vision or other traits (deformities) are optional to choose, there is ALWAYS at least one heir WITHOUT ANY deformities (or bad traits) - Choosing bad traits gives you BONUS gold, making them worth it for the most part. They can also drastically change gameplay. For example, PACIFIST trait (i.e you can't attack) gives you 190% bonus gold and the game becomes about avoiding enemies and speed running areas, which is fun and nets you a LOT of money. - The game is also VERY FAIR, if you progressed very far into the game and died, you can just LOCK the world (Save entire world progression) for a fee and play it like a linear game as many times as you want. There are also regular checkpoints that are perma unlocked for EVERY playthrough - You can just make the game SUPER EASY by changing options in the settings. You can change enemy damage, health and make platforming super EASY Give this game a shot for sure. There are a lot of things to do here and the NG+ is substantial too.

Barbarian's weapon gets to be one of the most overpowered things in the entire game if you get flight by some method (either the relic or the house rule). You basically have an infinite aura of recoil damage so all you have to worry about is moving in the right way to both do damage and not get hit in turn. Given how many enemies attack by ramming into you or attacking at ground level, yeah. This gets extra stupid with the combo, fire, and/or poison powerups. Any one or even better two of those and the only reason you should die is if either you had a stroke, your controller popped out, or you are at NG+10 on a level where you should be at NG+4.

I'm 45 hours into RL2 and having a good time. It does in fact improve upon everything RL1 did, and the "House Rules" settings let you make the game as difficult or easy as you want by adjusting which RPG mechanics work, and to what degree they affect gameplay. It's still randomly generated, but there's still an NPC who can keep the map static for a percentage of your gold each run. So it's accessible enough. :>

the Gunslinger class has a gun, so one of those is already in RL2 lol. (or some kind of spike/boulder trap you had no way of predicting would be there since it's random) In the past, when arcades were big you had an excuse to make things extremely hard to get people paying more and more money to keep going but in the modern era, it feels like a relic of game design that should be left in the past. (Not things being hard... Things being hard to the point of tedium for no reason other than the difficulty itself, without the variety or interesting game design to back it up)

Now that you mention it…I would love to see a Rogue Legacy 0 that’s a play on the fact that you can get really shitty characters and is therefore very wonky. But it is hard to make a good game that’s whole design is to be bad

I was under the impression that the term in this case is "rogue lite". It's a light version of Rogue because while it has an element of losing what you have on death it gives you some kind of progression instead of throwing you back to 0

So me and my buddy co-oped through it, and it only took 2 runs, the uh Ditto Curse of Mormo immediately springs to mind a little under a minute into this video, if you are talking about the world changing each iteration. They do it better, but it ends up being sort of a short game that felt fairly underwhelming, you win much easier than the game makes you believe. It also was generous it seemed like with continues and deaths and that sort of stuff. [Also the Sex and the city gag caught me enough off guard to be laugh-out-loud funny.]

The thing I disliked about Rogue Legacy 2 is... Rouge Legacy 1 felt like Hades in that it was a "even if you suck, just play it enough times and you WILL become so powerful you pretty much can't lose". I beat Rogue Legacy 1 on New Game +10 before the game became way too hard for me. But Rogue Legacy 2... I would be max upgraded and still struggling with like, the flower boss or whatever. That's not ideal. I LIKED that in Rogue Legacy 1, you could be so powerful that bosses took like 10 hits and you could tank your way through them by like run #92 even if you kinda sucked, and then the difficulty ramped up in subsequent New Game+ runs. Rogue Legacy 2 added a real "git gud" factor, where even a maxed stats person would never become too powerful, which... is fine for players who like that, but I don't, and it was a surprise considering that WASN'T part of Rogue Legacy 1.

I get where you're coming from, but I have exact the opposite perspective: A game in which you are ultimately garuanteed success if you just grind enough is exisitentially boring to me. The mere thought of playing such a game fills me with ennui. Because why bother to be engaged, to play smartly, or play well? I might as well turn off my brain because the eventual outcome is going to be the same. The only appreciable difference is how long it will take.
@abdulmasaiev90242 жыл бұрын
That's pretty wild. It's literally the thing I disliked about Rogue Legacy 1 the most. The game's balance was that there was the start and the finish, and then a wall in the middle. Everything before the wall was a breeze, everything after the wall was "might as well give up and start the next run" with just the fun bits being the area fairly close to it on either side, and your runs would just push where the wall was forward until you got it past the final boss. This is arguably fine as a design choice, but it does mean a ton of busywork as you have to rerun and rerun and rerun all over these same sections which have nothing at all to offer you anymore.

Hey wait a second what if there WAS a roguelike where the setting advances with each run, so when you start you’re in a medieval setting with steel weapons and armor and enemies shoot arrows or fireballs, and several runs in you’re in a space palace with lightsabers and fighting drones and stuff

Some people already requested a review of Outer Wilds. I‘d love to hear your thoughts on it, but on the other hand… it‘s really difficult to talk about that game without ruining the experience for those who have not yet played it. It‘s such a unique experience if you‘re going in blind. Soooo maybe a challenge: review the game without spoiling it? I guess that would be pretty difficult, but I‘ve seen you do great reviews, while still preserving the experience for people that have not tried the game, yet. But I don‘t even send anyone money here, so… 🤣 I actually picked Outer Wilds up, because I couldn‘t keep my games apart: I wanted to play Outer Worlds, but bought the wrong thing. And I am soooo glad I did. Played Outer Worlds after that, felt a bit let down. 🤷

Thank god, I needed a reason to keep my Series X plugged in since I beat Tunic. It's a shame this isn't on the Switch though. The gameplay really benefits from the pick up/put down nature of that system, ie Hades or Skul (both of which you should absolutely play if you haven't).

Rogue Legacy 1 was one of my comfort games, every once in a while I'd boot it up and see if I could get to NG+++ in under 30 deaths or something, and I'm not sure quite yet if RL2 is better or not. The hand-drawn art at times looks way too much like something Carbot would make, (I can never take any of the chibi flying wizards seriously when the next room over are creepy darksouls bosses), and they got way too much Dead Cells in my Rogue Legacy, I don't like Roguelike games where you're still getting basic game mechanics hours and hours in. I clocked the double-jump at 10 hours of playtime, I think I can get a doublejump in RL 1 in about 15 minutes. I love the map design, the new movement by spin-kicking adds so much more depth to combat and platforming, and the story has me interested, so I'm still thoroughly enjoying my playthrough. Although I will say I am surprised that Yahtzee didn't trash the lol-random humor they have about pizza, it honestly feels really weird and forced.
