A silly, fun game that's a rare of example of an FPS roguelike is Immortal Redneck (well technically it's a roguelite). It's available on the Switch. It's not my favourite roguelike ever, but it's good fun (and on sale at the moment in the UK, which is very rare!). Thought I'd mention it for the people scrolling through the comments looking for new roguelikes to try out 😊

tangledeep is a great old school style roguelike that i feel is criminally underrated. it looks and feels like a long-lost SNES game, tons of customization in how you build your character, beautiful pixel art, and has a soundtrack primarily composed by hiroki kikuta, who composed secret of mana.

@@bobvella7228 i've gotten a few pets but really only played much with two of them - a fungal toad, which is great because it has a self-healing spell that it seems to use pretty frequently, and a verdigrizzly, which has pretty beefy defense and a pretty big health pool, and summons floracondas and grouns spikes. most runs, i pick up the summon floraconda from the floramancer class, so that paired with the verdigrizzly especially is a great way to deal with groups of mobs.

Some picks that I would add, or anyone looking to expand your library of these types of games would be Undermine, Scourgebringer, Caveblazers, Children of Morta, Dicey Dungeons, Dungeon of the Endless, Flinthook, Gearshifters, Into the Breach, Neon Abyss, One Step From Eden, Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos, Skul: The Hero Slayer, Star Renegades, and Wizard of Legend. Not every game is for everyone, but there is enough variety out there to keep most of us busy. Keep up the good work. See you on the next one.

I want to mention Caveblazers once more. It's 'Combat Spelunky', where you have a melee weapon, a bow and a slot for a magical item, and you have to fight your way down a cave system and beat tough bosses. There's also perks that completely change your runs, like being a vampire that can't use healing items but has to keep aggressively attacking enemies. I was hooked on it for a very long time! Also it's frequently dirt cheap!!

Love me some Dead Cells and Slay the Spire. I'm not very good at either, mind you, but it's fun to pick either up between longer games as a palate cleanser. Moonlighter is one I enjoyed quite a bit. I like the balance between the roguelike dungeon crawling at night and the shop management during the day.
@pheonix9372 Жыл бұрын
Ah Slay the Spire...it's my airport game. Something I need to play to kill 30-45 min without getting sucked in or having to learn mechanics. Moonlighter didn't click immediately with me....but many times they do when I go back to them so my fingers are crossed!
@Anonymousrisk Жыл бұрын
@@pheonix9372I enjoy both games, but for moonlighter in particular I'd definitely suggest finding time where you have a chance to learn the mechanics. I honestly love it, but I can definitely see the complexity of it (such as making sure the things you sell are priced correctly) so I would definitely suggest playing in a longer duration of spare time because once you learn it, it gets a lot better. Took it a while for it to click with me as well and that's what i did :) just a suggestion of course, but hopefully it helps. And sorry for the long response, I tend to over explain sometimes xD

I would add another to the Honourable Mentions which is Monster Train; and I get where Slay the Spire would be a 5th place. It is the daddy of deck builders. Monster Train is like Slay the Spire. Instead of 4 characters though, there's 6 clans with 2 different champions in each you can choose from. Has a lot of Hearthstone feel to it, and it's a tower defense. If you haven't played it yet I highly recommend trying it out. For some it's a 50/50. Like they'll like Slay the Spire and Monster Train is meh, or Monster Train they end up liking more than Slay the Spire.
I absolutely love Hades, and I've been looking for another game to reach that height, but none have so far. I own most of these games but I bounce off them. Hades was immediately fun with all the different combinations of weapons and abilities. Can't wait for the sequel. Void bastards was also amazing though. Coral!!! 😂😂😂 Solid list gents, the only one I’m missing personally is Monster Train. Oh, and Dead Cell ftw 😉

I have to go with Hades as my top pick, but great list! I respect your choices 😄

Hades didn't grab me immediately honestly. I got Hades and Little Noah the same day and put Hades down to play Noah... blasphemy I know. I'm getting back into it though because I love the look and sound design!

I didnt get this genre at first. I can't get too into dead cells due to frustration..but I got Hades, Cult of the Lamb and Rogue Legacy this month...and I get it now. Which means I'm constantly on 3 hrs sleep at work..up til 6am saying "one more run.."

Dead Cells is the all time best for me. That game is the whole reason I've started playing this genre. Everytime I play it I love it as much as the first time.

Wildfrost is excellently balanced. There is soon to be an update on switch that makes it more welcoming to new players. Alot of the issues with it tends to be that it's mechanics aren't explained and cause you to lose runs from something you didn't think worked that way. This is being improved. It's personally my game of the year and I'd recommend you retry it once version 1.06a comes to the switch

I just love seeing the like amount roll over from 599 to 600 when I press it. There is some weird satisfaction there that you cant get anywhere else. lol great video guys. I agree with all these titles accept binding of Isaac The GOAT. I've never played that one before. I plan to once i get the time.

Binding of Isaac and Rogue Legacy were of my first rogues back in the day, but I've put more time into Dead Cells and Risk of Rain than any others. Still have lots of love for Moonlighter, Hades, and Slay the Spire. I don't think it's ever coming to switch, but I also really enjoyed FTL: Faster Than Light!

Army of Ruin! Guys please cover this, probably the best survivors-like, and zero performance issues on the switch. So addictive and so many unlockables. By the devs of Ziggurat

I love seeing that Bad North made the cut. It feels like a game that flew under everyone's radar (maybe for the minimalist art style making it look boring at first glance?), but it really should show up on more lists like this.

Enter the Gungeon is really good, but I really prefer Nuclear Thrones, even just for the music. The game just never goes on sale tho, so i bought it full price considering I have it for Steam already ...i just dont have a SteamDeck

Surely Children of Morta should've got a mention.

Dead Cells is one of those titles I've banned for myself because I played them too long; over 250 hours before any DLC. And Hades is an obvious masterpiece. But the rest of my top 5-City of Brass, Fury Unleashed and Sublevel Zero-I'm actually amazed they didn't even get a honorable mention. Yeah, personal taste and all, and the titles on this list are also incredible, but still.

I bought the binding of isaac when it first came out on switch and i hated it but i picked it up again like 8 months later and now i have isaac everything from rugs to phone cases ive been obsessed I bought the collectors box on switch and bought it again on pc it’s such a good game

I think you're crazy putting Binding of Isaac above Dead Cells and Hades. Heck I'd probably put Children of Mortal up there too.

RAD is a roguelike I've actually finished. Great top down apocalyptic 90s inspired game and very easy to understand but difficult to master

Have yet to play a single roguelike (which, after having been a gamer for 40+ years, must be some kind of record!), but the more modern ones (those with persistent story) have really caught my attention. Got Hades on my wishlist, may decide to get it once I get fed up of TotK (if that ever happens! 🤣).

You guys should check out One Step from Eden; it's essentially Mega Man Battle Network but a roguelike.

@@jettythesunfish oh that's wonderful to hear! Sometimes that's all that is needed for me. I can get behind a grind and buildup of relics//powers//stats or what have you from a game but it's nice to change the accessibility and kind of mov thru the early parts sometimes.

I just got Rogue Legacy 2 on PS plus for free and it's suuuuuch an improvement over the first one! And the first one was pretty decent. For some reason the air spin jump on the blue lanterns is finicky for me though...
