After getting a sneak peek at the Rogue MG-4 at the Arnold Sports Festival earlier this year, COOP from Garage Gym Reviews has finally gotten his hands on it for a full Rogue MG-4 review.
This multi-grip bar might be one of the most customizable specialty bars for home gym owners, as it lets you select the sleeve length and finish, and the degree of the handles!

This looks nice and all, but it's way too expensive and not necessarily any better, than say, an Elite FTS American Cambered Bar. I think the idea of this bar is better than the actual thing and I think owning this is more of a flex than anything. Thanks for the video!

Elite FTS doesn’t get a whole lot of love, they make really good equipment for a decent price. I want to see some more of their equipment on here.

I agree, I have the Elite FTS American Cambered bar and it’s a great bar at an affordable price. This one looks nice, but it’s very expensive and when you buy the extra handles it really gets up there.

Seems like a very honest initial first impression review. I'm grateful for it Coop, thanks. I love my Kadillac bar. My only issue with it is sometimes a tiny piece of the extremely rough powder coating flakes off onto you. Like around your face/torso.

Got my MG-4C with stainless parts today and it's dope AF. Got straight handles and 16 degree handles. I sold my MG-3 Bar and some plates and it was totally worth the upgrade. It's pricey, but I'm very happy.

I would agree with you about the handle bars being something that once you set you will not change, which I have heard many reviewers mention. However, what I think they are missing (and maybe because they have had the luxury of trying many bars) is that because you can move the handles and chance the grip angle to your perfect fit with 1 bar. That means you only have to buy one and not multiple to find the grip setting you like.

After watching this, I can’t help but feel like this bar doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s cambered, but it’s so wide. It basically eliminates itself from being a viable overhead press. Plus it’ll be super annoying to center your hands on such a wide grip every time without center marks of some sort. It’s also modular, which is great. But it’s intentionally semi-permanent. So why bother being modular? You know how annoying it would be to try to dial in the correct hand width? Why didn’t they make a quick release type system? Why even make this at all? Why not just offer 3 different variants of a bar while making each of them unique? All of their previous versions are basically the same bar with updates. And what’s with the small grips? No options? Everyone who has experience lifting knows pressing feels better on the joints with thicker handles. I just don’t understand Rogue sometimes. It’s like they don’t know what lifters want.

After seeing the details on this bar, I gotta agree with you. I think Rogue missed the mark here. I can't come up with any compelling reason to buy this over other options and several reasons not to. The width of it but itself is a show stopper if you've even pressed with this type of bar.

To me this seems like a great multi grip bar option. I like that fact that you *could* move the handles if you wanted to. It just like everyone’s been saying, it’s way too expensive.

I see Coop’s point about putting the handles in one place and never moving it. But the modular aspect is great for different limb lengths. So, you may leave the handles in one place but it makes the bar not a one size fits all.

You have a point but I would say that most people will not use this feature and in order for that to be practical there should be a more user friendly way to move the handles. Case in point is the Kabuki Transformer bar and it's evolution to now being more easily adjusted.

I love Rogue but I see zero reason to go with this bar. It is huge and ridiculously expensive. It should just come with all the handles. Kabuki for the win. Where Rogue can shine is if they can manage to improve the Kadillac bar when they take over production for Kabuki. Make the handles knurled, dull down the sharp edges, and offer shorter sleeves just like the MG-4. Boom.

Definitely sticking with my Kadillac Bar from Kabuki. The specialty bar from Rogue I’m most interested in is the CB-4 (“double-T”) bar. I’m waiting until a few reviewers get them in-hand and share their thoughts before I pull the trigger. What I’d REALLY love is a 3” cambered bench press bar but no one seems to sell them. Titan has a 4” one but I’m not too keen on Titan’s quality. Hopefully the CB-4 can give me a deep enough stretch when benching that I wouldn’t need a separate cambered bar for benching.

If this ever segways into cable attachments, then the American Cambered Neutral Grip from EliteFTS is the best piece in my opinion. It fits so nicely lifting with it inside my rack that I don’t see a reason to buy a “combo” bar - especially the one from Rep where the screw looks like its going to puncture your neck every other rep!

Compare it to the elite fts American cambered bar, and Kabuki. I also wish they used a 32 mm grip. Between the thin grip and extra width, I'm probably gonna hold off until they do a 2.0 version. I really was looking forward to this bar because of the concept, and stainless steel knurled grips. Number 1 is functionality which is y elite fts American cambered is king for me.

Great first impression. But, Kabuki Kadillac FTW. I think Rogue is slipping and they’re long line of latest “innovations” are meh at best. I have a CB-4 on order (hopefully it’ll get here within 2022) and it’s the first piece of Rogue equipment I’ve been excited about in a long time.

The price is obviously an issue but I guess the benefit is it’s the only bar you can buy and change to suit you. If you buy any other bar without trying it and something isn’t quite right, you’re stuck with it. This is also the only bar with rotating sleeves too I think? And I guess the other benefit is that Coop mentioned he’d like thicker handles… this is the only bar where you could potentially change them. I am a bit of a rogue shill but looking at it objectively, I still feel the same. But yes it’s expensive but so is the Kaddy.

Thicken grip of bar by putting pvc pipe over the bar as you insert it = thick grips of any size you like. Changeable. Can make it rotate too if desired, or cut the pvc so it just fits with angles on the ends so it won't rotate. PVC cheap, can make all combinations desired. Moveable grips means you can slightly alter the width etc.. over a period of many weeks to shake things up a bit. Width of this ... I can imagine some will put an aqua bag on top for instability (people are crazy).

My Titan multiigrip is similarly wide and I love that as a variation for pressing. Mimics log quite a bit if you don't have a log, but adds range of motion. Not a downside for this Rogue bar in my opinion.

I have both, and I prefer the fts. The cadillac is far better quality in construction, and looks, but for feel, and functionality I prefer the fts bar. Plus u have a close grip option with the fts bar.

Making it adjustable is extremely useful for experienced lifters who know how the bar is supposed to feel for them, and know how to set the handles to put stress away from an ache or pain, new lifters will have no idea how to optimally set it and should just stick to a normal one.

This bar would be great for odd sized people that most bars wouldn’t be completely inline with. That said, most people are fine using most of the multigrip bars out there already, even those people. If they had a system that let you change the handle inserts quickly and easily that was still stable, this would have been great.

I'm so glad I didnt wait for this bad boy and ordered an elite fts bar. This bar has the same issues as the titan bar. It's too wide and the handles are not in the fully cambered sections. You have no grips at max camber, the grips suck, and it's a pain to move the handles. You may as well have a flat bar because you get almost no extended ROM with this bar. The elite fts bar has 3 of is handles at max camber, titan has 1, and rogue now has zero. This was made by an engineer who doesn't even lift.

it looks nice but it definitely looks too wide. I've had my Kabuki Kadillac bar for about 18 months and love it. The handles have the perfect angles plus they are not too long so grabbing it centered has never been an issue.

I like the bar personally, but I understand where Coop is coming from as my wife said similar things about it, but then again she also has baby hands; ). I wish the handles came in 1.5" or even 1.3" so it would feel better pressing but all in all I think it's a decent bar after 2 weeks of use but for the price I'm not sure if it's worth it. I've tried the kabuki kadillac and it was great but I could never justify buying it because I live in Canada and at the time Kabuki I don't think was shipping here (I know now they do). The irony though is that the MG-4 bar is more than the kadillac bar. In retrospect I think the kadillac bar is the better option(I don't remember if the handles had knurling or not) and I say this only because of price and how it feels in your hands when doing pressing movements.

Kabuki recently announced a partnership with Rogue to produce the Kadillac Bar, giving easier access to East Coast consumers, but also Europe. I’ve been wanting to purchase the Kadillac bar for some time but being in the U.K. the shipping is astronomical, so hopefully the price will be more competitive. For me I think the Kadillac Bar is superior to this.

The Kadillac Bar is still the king IMO as well. A Kadillac Bar with knurled handles though? That I would pay a premium for.

The thin handles are a deal killer for a bar like this IMO.

It's bothering me how all these reviewers so far keep mentioning how most people are going to leave the handles in one setting and hardly adjust it, like that's a negative. The whole point is that everyone will have a different width that feels comfortable to them, but when you buy one of the other MG bars on the market, you don't get to pick exactly what that width is! The idea is that it's exactly the right width for each end user. I do agree that this one seems priced way past where it should be though. I made my own MG bar, but if I were to buy another one it would be the EliteFTS cambered bar, not this one.

Agree with all your points. They made this way too wide! I thought the Kaddy was wide compared to the arch nemesis but this is next level! To me I would have strongly considered it were it a lot less wide! But that along with the price..i would say hard pass.

With the short sleeves this is the only multigrip that is rackable and short. For people with not so much room this is a life saviour. There also is flat version now by the way. Maybe give this bar another chance? I agree that it its to expensive and I don't care about the adjustable handles.

Be careful with what you wish for. Who will blink first. Will Rogue continue to be great quality and exorbitant prices. Will other bars be made smaller? Or, will Rep make wider racks? The Rep multi seems to fit all Racks. So who is going to be first to market a 6 handle not so big $400 version of this. Titan or Rep?

Instead of multiple handles, they should have made a single handle per angle with detent pins. Maybe make them spring loaded like a toilet paper holder so you can fit them between the actual bar cross members???

Picked this up today from Rogue at $225 vs the $680 original sticker. That’s after pouring over lots of reviews generally saying it’s wobbly and overpriced. Yet…$225 was tough to pass up.

Big and it is wobbly. However, for $225 I think it’s a steal. I grabbed a couple extra handles so I have about $325 in a bar that did retail for around a grand.
