Hi, I'm new here. Recently i have been watching a decent amount of SC2. I basically dropped off after we lost TB. And to be honest what got me back in initially was GGG's modded campaign playthroughs. Then i hopped over to watching this kinda content later on

Maxpax is a human but he is directing an AI. The AI controls the individual AI-like movements at high speed and Maxpax subtly directs the AI as to strategy. That is why he doesn't (and can't!) play live.

Perhaps a good compromise for the Mothership would be to reduce the effect abduct has on it, so maybe it only gets pulled 60% of the distance with a single abduction. That would still allow Zerg to punish players who position the mothership too aggressively or pull it out of the ball with multiple abducts, but also give Protoss a chance to keep it safe with proper control, rather than the yoink from a single Viper being inevitable.

why can it pull out massive units ? How come they dont crash from the massive momentum from the vipers tongue. No idea why Blings do AoE but no FF. Let them be spread, just like those who defend.

Yeah I agree, Lowko tried to make the point that a lot of pros don't control it on a separate control group but I think that's a little silly when we're already talking about a race whose late game army requires your tempest, templar, main army, + any other spellcasters all on different groups. Don't get me wrong, zerg late game is also an incredibly difficult army to use well but if the Mothership requires that much attention that it needs an entire control group to keep safe I just don't think its worth the APM and attention cost you're also trying to spend on everything else when Zerg can just click abduct and keep the -400/-400 meme alive

I really hope they rework the balance patch. StarCraft 2 is famous for its balance. Even in this Terran favored environment, Zerg and Protoss aren't leagues behind. But this next balance patch makes it extremely difficult for the other two races to stack up. Here's hoping they listen to the feedback, and redo the changes for next season.

Agreed. The Terran changes are absurd. Protoss seemed to have received an overall nerf, zerg a few nerfs and a few buffs, Terran got one slight nerf and a load of buffs. Some of the changes to Terran are just nuts. The most notable omission though is the lack of any change to ghosts. They're pretty boring to watch and counter almost everything. Can't believe they weren't touched. It's weird lore-wise as well. Seeing big ghost stacks replacing all the bio in an army is off-putting.

For the new balance patch I believe oracles will be the stock staple for attacking and defense because the energy boost will let them leave tons of stasis wards in place of shield batteries. As well as centuries will pop up shield after shield. That will basically be every Protoss early game defense.

niiice, a MaxPax series! thanks, Lowko! now that you mention it, Lowko, the new Nexus ability may be useful to boost Oracle harass..... I also love how MaxPax put a Zealot on patrol after Rogue's nydus play.....and Lowko said he isn't flexible :P

I think one of Rogue's biggest weaknesses is creep spread. Compared to other Zerg pros, he seems to struggle with keeping on top of it, so he ends up having far less map pressure and vision. Look at that second game, even though he had soft contained MaxPax with his Lurker push, his creep barely moved at all for 5 minutes. I don't think he's necessarily bad at it, just other pros seem to do it much better.

I will never forget that BeastyQ forged the legend of MaxPax .. he was impressed with that MaxPax strategy and them he played with him and coached him.. untill he grew good enough to play non stop in tournaments and win

I used to watch every game happily. Then every terran vs zerg is the same. Turtle, drops, ghosts and liberators. Turtle vs protoss: Turtle, drops, ghosts, and liberators. I do still enjoy Turtle vs Turtle. However i was starting to get bored, and upset with the balance. This new patch, only made turtling easier for Terran, allowing less liberators at home to cover more area, and refund turrets, towers etc. This next season is going to be brutal.

Maxpax should have more batteries! After 10 minutes, there is really no reason to not have 2 batteries on your 3rd and 4th and all future bases. Batteries are so good. If I wasn't a harcode zerg fan, I would play protoss, because of instant warpins and batteries. In combination these are so good.

Is there a reason why the pros cancel the animation on the drones when stealing the other's minerals or is it just making sure they are just not being relaxed? I know these people will try to shave off like half a second just to get their stuff out quicker.

You mean cancelling the animation on the probes? The idea is not to actually mine the minerals. It's to stop the drones from mining the minerals and disrupt the income. If the probe is actively mining the mineral patch, the drone trying to mine off that patch will move off to another mineral patch. So the idea is to continually hit mineral patches with the probe to prevent the drones from working and cause them to move away. If you don't cancel the mine animation, then the probe will finish mining and get a mineral stack. At that point, the probe can't mine anymore as it has minerals in hand, so it can't disrupt anymore mining. It's only a small disruption, and the Protoss player has to be sure to continue macroing at home while doing it, but if the Protoss can do it while not losing any macro at home, then they shave a handful of minerals off the Zerg player. It's a small gain, but early game minerals are important, and at the pro level every small edge over the enemy can be important.

If you are talking about new ability that refills energy, it has a 60 sec global CD, if you use it on one Nexus, it goes off on all of others.

AI was trained on Protoss. Maxpax has very repetitive strats (like an AI), fast APM (like an AI), and can't quite beat the best humans especially when the APM has to be turned down to "human-ish" levels. Maxpax himself is clearly a person but somehow doesn't (and I would argue, can't) play live. You would see that his hands are not moving at Clem-like speeds. He was almost entirely a KZbin creation, promoted out of the blue, by BeastyQT. I suspect that his fame grew suddenly and he didn't have the real-world skills without his AI to compete.

hey im also new, i love your analysis so dont stop with the deep nitpicky analysis. What might help me more would be if you just highlighted each player's win condition, i get confused when one player has an advantage but the supply is equal. When you say someone is being greedy, i had no idea until you explained it. Also sometimes the game ends after a sudden fight and i didnt realize the stakes were that high at that given moment.
