I wanted to thank you because of techniques I learned watching your videos I am NOT a victim.about a month ago I was in a local bar and they have a patio out back, a very large man(aprox 6’3” 300lbs) tried to sexually assault me. He put his hand down my shirt and was pulling my breast out when I hit him in the throat with a technique I learned in one of your videos about the most dangerous ways/places to hit someone. I got away and ran inside to my group of people but he also got away. It’s scary to think what might have happened if I hadn’t known how to defend myself. I’m forever grateful for you sharing your knowledge. Wishing you many blessings ❤️

Another great video! I especially enjoyed the part where you asked your student what he thought went wrong with the technique. Hearing his thoughts followed by your own was really informative! More of that please. I would like to make a suggestion. I'd like to see you guys try to work on and incorparate some type of 'setups' for techniques. I don't know the proper term for it, but Judoka do them. I was curious of whether or not incorparating Judo setup techniques would be benefical in trying to apply Aikido techniques in standup grappling. I feel like this is something really worth looking into. Looking forward to seeing the striking/standup grappling video for applied Aikido techniques. You and your class are doing really great work. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos!

Hi lenny absolutely fantastic video how you train is exactly how I train now it's pressure testing and the learning to deal with the adrenaline doing the overtime forcing the breathing and mind set to keep you in the fight even though you're in America you're videos speak volumes. Unfortunately my wife on Monday was diagnosed with bone cancer and I'm finding life very tough at the moment so my martial arts and videos like this have made me go deeper into myself it's my solitude because now I'm having to use my martial arts mindset to help me through these tough times I have to focus on the mission ahead stay strong for my wife and keep the bushido fighters mindset I'm sorry to tell you this on here but my point being is life throws anything at you so you have to train and be prepared for any eventuality and situation!god be with you all who read this and always stand firm for your loved ones because life is full of suprises. I'm sorry if I have babbled on I will continue to watch your videos because they speak the truth no matter what the art is just learn you're art use it to be all you can be.

I learned all of your techniques and I have been mugged a week ago and he had some sort of knife on his hand and was threatening me to give him the wallet because I was doing the ATM and had nowhere to run so I gave all my money to him in my wallet but he still wanted to hurt me so he grabbed my wrist and I think he was about to cut me on the arm to intimidate me or probably going to be ready for a stab so when he grabbed my left hand while he has knife on his right, I hammer fist his solar plex he felt pain but was ready to stab me but while he let go with pain holding his stomach to gasp for air I grabbed one of his arm and did and ikkyo with a knee on top of his elbow sending him down to the floor and he was screaming because of pain so I applied this technique and he dropped his knife and kept and applying and took the knife and let go he ran away. So that's my story about Aikido which I learned from other masters and Lenny Sly!

I would be interested in seeing these techniques done against a judoka or wrestler of equivalent experience in their art. I also would like to see live resistance when both people have the goal to attack and defend, that is the situation people will find themselves in, trying to defend someone else's attacks while they attack
@milosstojanovic46235 жыл бұрын
NO, it would happen exactly opposite, if there is controlled environment and you know who you are fighting, some "techniques" could not be applied, only if you got your opponent surprised and unprepared for some technique. In 90%+ situations we got we dont know who we are up against, so as sensei said you just go for a win, no matter in what way.

Awesome video as usual. It really opens more possibilities when you have live resistance. One thing that may up the ante is to give Nick and Rod separate techniques to execute. This reminds me of what happens in judo tournaments. Both of them are so good at flipping and throwing people to the ground that they just wind up in a stalemate. I think this would work a lot better in a situation where they're applying it off of another move as opposed to looking for it while the guy is already tensed up. Seeing as how Aikido is based on counter maneuvers rather than direct entanglements. I find that most of the moves you've shown us are at their best when exploiting the openings created by other movements.

Awesome video. Perhaps try the same drills again but this time adding vital spots marking to distract or disrupt or faints etc to make the opponent react one way to learn how to set up what you need right before applying any technique. Meaning what I mentioned last video. Fx touching the nose, jar, throat, rub the ribs against the bone, pinch the inner thigh or what ever sensitive reactive spot you can get access to in what ever positions. Also avoid force against force as much as possible unless it's a punch to a forward moving head or body fx. Things like that. Adding strikes comes after this progression, but many people skip this.

I know you guys avoid going to the ground, but I have found Sankyo to be the most useful and a high-percentage Aikido technique I use in BJJ grappling against opponents who are very much resistant. Lenny, for background I’m a wrestler and I’ve been practicing jiujitsu and mma for a few years now. Before learning them Ive done traditional martial arts such as Hapkido, Karate, and Taekwondo for years. Hapkido in fact has taught me many of your style of wristlocks. I really like a lot of your techniques and have in fact used a few wristlocks in grappling, I love it. One suggestion I have is an aikido technique I sort of bastardized with my wrestling. Wanted to know your opinion on it. Anyway this is a Russian armbar, not sure if you’ve wrestled before so I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. That two arms on his one arm grip. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGimY6aVp76YpaM It works in wrestling and mma at all levels so you know it works against resistance, and is generally seen as the absolute best form of control from a stand up position, aside from perhaps the guillotine or front headlock. When I get to that position I’ve recently started to throw my elbow over and I’ve been able to transition into Hiji Kime Osae. I’ve also been able to catch Hiji Kime Osae off collar tie by shucking the elbow straight over. An mma fighter named Shinya Aoki performed something similar to this and broke someone’s arm doing it, so that’s why I like it. Of course I did it far more controlled than him however because I’m not trying to injure my partners kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2bZhZydetR1pM0 I’d appreciate it if you would make a video going over those two set ups, the collar tie and the Russian armbar, to achieve Hiji Kime Osae, and covering the pros and cons of doing so. Maybe do some sparring with the technique even

I like Aiki Grappling, but run it 1 attacker, 1 defender, switch, then they are both going live unlimited a 3rd time. Then you attack 1 student, then the other, then Live 2 way street etc. Would have liked to seen you pull of Sankyo live when they are resisting. 2 way streets are when you feel the real energy and flow. Fights r 2 way roads unless you control the outcome before it comes to blows in pre-emptive phase. Now that they are doing pressure testing, it seems everyones breathing needs to be focused on and better IMO. 1,2, 1 vs 2, Sensei vs 1,2 wraps it all up more examples & better learning tool. Exact same thing for each technique focused on, should be run with body strikes (and maybe or not light face slaps...try both with and without face contact in the vids). So each technique video could have a part 1, then Part 2 with strikes allowed as destraction/structure breaking setup tools. Asian guy HotRod? started showing better Sensitivity Awareness in this video, not reallying on upper body strength, holding his breath as high in his chest. IE there should still be Aiki if you call it Aiki Grappling.
@theognostosyios93435 жыл бұрын
Interesting...btw sankyo is one of the 'bread and butter techniques of basic Aiki' as I call them....do notice in the so called dynamic 'grappling' the opponents are at a small distance then the merge happens fast then the lock or take down is fairly quick. Otherwise there is quick separation and restart. In any event the nage should change immediately so as to effect the diagonals and not straightforward as they were as it becomes now a fight of strength of muscle. Both individuals are fairly strong young men. Recentlly at a bjj school I watched a bjj very strong heavy weight blackbelt teacher against a judoka about the same size..also black belt....both very strong very good...the clock was ticking they were at a standstill it reminded of two bulls or elephants locking their tusks...just huffing and puffing ..sweating ...each looking for an opening...just before the bell rank the judoka effected with all his strength an uchimata. The bell rang so there was no further ground exercise it was late at night. Honestly, they were both spent energy wise. Of course this is not Aiki. It will be interesting to see your idea with atemi waza... I hope nothing like these friendly(?)settling score matches 😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGOldItqp9hna5o

I would categorize the Aiki in this video as Aikijujitsu, not Aikido, because there is minimal focus on harmonizing with the opponent's attack That's not meant as an insult; probably, this is good training for any Aikidoka anyway. Once upon a time a Judo blackbelt was a requirement to be a student of OSensei; this sort of thing (resistance based grappling) is bringing that idea back a little bit.

Hmm this stuff seems very dangerous, yet very effective. I don't quite know how I feel about it, because it's like the most logical thing to do. If you want to verify if a technique works and you ability to apply it, you have to pressure test it, or else you have people thinking that "they can kill an opponent with a single reverse punch." But it's also really dangerous because how fragile the fingers and wrists are. So I think this could definitely be a great practicing mechanism, but both people practicing have to have proper control. If you go to slow it's really not much of a practice, if you add too much intensity though someone's finger could be stuck to the back of their hand ya know? Just a little thought I had as a borderline novice, thanks for really taking the initiative though to try something different rather than just doing the same thing and expecting to get something different out of the martial arts.

Ok you’re obviously not understanding that this is a pressure test drill.
@yuriysemenikhin3025 жыл бұрын
@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 I do understand that. But the point of pressure testing is to see if one can actually perform those techniques while being Actively Attacked. As an example: If one of the guys is trying to do Sankyo, the other should be trying to get an ikyo. If one is going for kategayashi, the other should be trying iriminage. Then you get the kind of dynamics one would get in a real environment.

Dude, you are watching this from wrong angle, though i do agree with your second statement (because thats "text book" explanation of traditional aikido) , but they are trying to show us techniques in CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT, when they clearly go in training when they in advance know what technique they will try to do, and each of them are trying to stop other one for doing that, its fairly realistic situation, if i was on the street in some kinda combat situation, i wouldn't think of aikido techniques in advance, but would try and finish(or adapt to) current combat situation.
