I would not call it simple. Reshaping a board needs practice. It is neither the cutting nor the sanding, it is the dimensioning that demands skill.

While the actual shaping process is not exactly “simple” it does open up a few questions. Should we br taking more old boards back to your local shaper (who arent using robots to shape) and having them refurbished, rather than new blanks?

That’s just awesome! I did the same thing once to a old board, stripped it down and reshaped it a little and glassed it back up with the same fins, didn’t look as nice as yours, but my daughter rides it now…great video, thanks for showing it!

Thanks for showing this! I made a board about 25 years ago (my 4th and last) and used brand new foam blank and fresh resins (of course!) but old colouring that was probably over a decade old already. @@Rogue_wave my pleasure and a big cheers brotha🤙🏄... Hahahaha that's so rad to hear....6° of seperation. I lived in main beach and Currumbin (shark alley😅) for a while at 16yo.('93😅) Rad waves, rad temps to surf in boardies and feel loose and free all over. Definitely some good times and waves and memories for me too. My main coast is down south Torquay,jan juc, bells, cathedral and Lorne. I grew up watching Wayne Lynch next to me in the line-up doing backhand Rio's over me while i was duck diving lol. And cause i was on his board (roar surfboards) he'd call me supergrom or hell grom. So there's my attachment to old boards and shapers and rad memories of those boards, times, colours, vibes and just that era in general. A gen X era hahaha. Love ya work brotha❤️💯🤙i shaped when i was young for work experience with my board sponsor and as a massive toxic waste we need to do more upcycling of boards. I chop old 6 footas and make them 5'4" or 5'5" round noses and now I'm getting a quiver... slowly.😁 See ya out there one-day 😉🏄 A big YEEEEWWWW!!!🤙

In the 90s i did this with an old 60s single fin pin. Made a board for my little grom brother out of it. Never realized they would become collectors items now. Every 2nd hand shop was full of old single fin pins back then. Man i used to love riding barrels on them old things.

I always say, if a board isn’t being used it’s truly worthless… there’s obviously a few exceptions (true collectors items, etc) but I think a lot of people get weirdly attached to old boards out of nastalgia. Chop em up, ride em again!

the fin boxes are suppossed to be installed before you airbrush...so there is strength in the fins by being set underneath the glass.
@Rogue_wave Жыл бұрын
You mean before I laminate? If I installed them prior to airbrushing I’d be airbrushing the lam.
@HawaiianSurfTV Жыл бұрын
@@Rogue_wave...most board builders do this...shape the board...route the fin boxes...airbrush the foam board. then set the fins. put tape over the fin boxes. when you glass the bottom of the board the fins are under the glass layers of the board and have more break strength. when you finish hotcoating the board you just sand the fin boxes and screw holes open.
@HawaiianSurfTV Жыл бұрын
futures and fcs2 are designed with a little lip on the boxes...so the glass layers come over the majority of the finbox when laminated under glass but remain flush with the shape of the foam.

this is also true with the futures leash plugs and certain fcs leash plugs, i believe its the mini one.
