Those young blood minis blew my mind. Such talent, almost prodigy level even.

How judges for these decide on winners without getting a serious case of decision paralysis is well beyond me!
@piotrjeske45994 сағат бұрын
One of the longer (since like the 90s) thing people noticed is that it is favourable to paint your models in the "studio style" and the opposit (aka having a style studio members do not like) can end you with a pin for a model looking better , then just very good. It is also very hard to get in to (by that l mean winning the over all event) by eastern euro and especialy russian painters. Plus at the top everyone knows more or less everyone, so it is not on the hardness of taking a decision level of which grandma you like better , the rich one from Chelabynsk or your moms mother who can actualy cook.

@@roguehobbies We all know that you will do great. Just a suggestion maybe set a timer for how much paint time you want to put into something before starting the project. And while you're doing the project see if that was a reasonable or feasible time that you projected. The odds are that no it was not a reasonable time you need more but it's a good exercise to continue to do with competition pieces and yourself.

Thanks for the “Best of the Rest”! I’m not gonna lie, Zimikito has been pushed to me on my FYP for forever and occasionally watched his vids but hadn’t subscribed because, well there’s only so many creators a person can follow. 🤷🏽♂️ But his entry that you showed was my favorite! I love it when painters skew away from grimdark in their 40k minis. (when appropriate) And I swear to my patron Saint Katherine’s ever beating heart that his Blood Elves were, IMHO, fantastic! So I Googled him and was like “Oh, that guy!” and immediately subscribed. Anyway great video!

I loved seeing so many miniatures that are just plain-old versions of normal miniatures, instead of complex conversions, as we see in most year. It's a painting competition, not a sculpting competition.
@Ultr4l0f6 сағат бұрын
GW not haveing a little mini gallery of each model (just like 3 pictures or something) is insane. Even on a monitor you cant make out the minute stuff. So haveing like a zoomed in face or whatnot would be great.

In my opinion, the main thing about these contest is to paint a miniature perfectly. So the Space Marine totally deserves to win. Btw the paintjob on the Bretonian Knight, also submitted by Christian, was also perfectly executed

I think the ork on mecha shark is my favorite and he really nailed the chrome finish on the pipes. 50% shark, 50% ork, 50% muscle car, really great. Could only improve if the exhaust was bagpipes.

What a treat, a nice distraction from my surgery two weeks ago, fyi it still hurts! Poor me oh oh oh ha ha. Such wonderful entries, taking a hobby to an art form. I do fine art painting on canvases, I can honestly say miniature painting and miniature painting community has thought this old silver dog some new tricks.

That space Marine I think is pretty amazing. What they're going for is setting the expectation. If the expectation is always super non metallics and hyper realistic skin, it goes against the expectations of a marine even in the box art which for beginners or even moderate is already really hard to replicate.

People may complain about a single space marine model winning, but to me, that makes it harder since a diorama helps pull the eyes to other places. When you have nothing but one model, I feel have more time to scrutinize every single small detail.

Think of all the cool things you could do with a sword. Forget the fame, just having a live sized 3d printed goblin dragging around a slayer sword makes it all worth it.

The single Ultramarine was fantastic. I also really liked the vampire pirate ship, how big was that one?
@jorgemontero63843 сағат бұрын
And it wasn't the only one with minimal sculpture: The bronze in the open competition was a frigging free mini of the month earlier in the year, with just a base. In the Single Mini category, there's plain kroot, as-is, with a little bit of a diorama to place a bird, as-is. Just amazing painting instead of 200 hours of sculpting on top

At the end of the day, Golden Demon is a mini painting competition not a sculpting/2d traditional art competition so seeing a single unaltered Space Marine win a prize is fitting.
