Damn! 20 fricking cameras, 40 foot tower with crank, nice vertical antenna, auger machine, outdoor separate mancave, car port and extra shed in the distance, Bass boat. And that's not even showing what is in the man cave or the big 'ol house. I would be happy to just afford 20 feet of that tower.

I notice you don't have any guy wires. Since your wind load isn't much with the vertical I suppose you will get away with it. Thats a lot of tower above that roof which I would like to guy myself but that would because I would have a rotor and TA33 tribander up there. Good job!

Great Job, one of the best I've seen yet. One question if I may sir, it looks as thou you used angle iron at the bottom of your antenna, did you weld the angle iron directly to the legs? It almost looks like you welded sleaves to the angle iron and your tower legs fit into them. thanks for your answer!

Great video! Thanks! How is the winch post secured? Looks like a 9ft 4x4 chained to a fence post, is that right? How into the ground is the fence post? Is the 4x4 secured to the building or just supported by the fence post?
@AG5CC-USA

You're close. the winch is secured to the post with 4-half inch lag bolts 4" long. There is a 4x4x3/8" angle iron chained to the fence post and the post is in the ground about 3.5 feet. The angle iron is not secured to the building at all.

Great video. Exactly what I was looking for. Could you tell us at what point you connected to the antenna? In other words, how far from the ground is your cable connected to the tower? I didn't see much in the way of bending. My biggest concern is anchoring too low and causing the tower to bend in half from the weight. At the same time, I don't want to go too high because I want the pole to be minimal in comparison to the tower. Thanks! 73s

I have a 6x6x10 3.5ft in the ground concreted. Then 2ft off the ground another 6x612 is attached to it via 3 1ft long lag bolts. I can remove Top and bottom lag bolts and the 6x6 can pivot and lay over.. on top of the top 6x6 I have a 10ft 1.24in pipe.. then a Maco V58 ground plane antenna.. 26ft to the base of antenna. Unfortunately I chose 6x6s for durability instead of 4x4s and it's to heavy to raise by hand. I purchased a 40:1 gear ratio hand crank from harbor freight. And a d-ring rated for 3300lbs. I planned on just adding the winch to side of my Amish shed and attach d ring to the 6x6 and do it again that way. But placing the winch lower, and a snatch block higher on the building would be better. I'm concerned about it ripping the 2x4s out, I noticed you have 2x2 angle iron. How did you attach that to the building and did you attach it to studs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@AG5CC-USA
@AG5CC-USA 3 ай бұрын
Crank-up and tilt-over ham radio towers offer several advantages beyond the convenience of not having to raise the full length of the tower: 1. **Safety**: These types of towers make it safer to perform maintenance, adjustments, or installation of antennas. You can lower the tower to a manageable height, reducing the risk associated with climbing high structures. 2. **Ease of Access**: With a tilt-over tower, you can easily access your antenna system right from the ground. This is particularly useful for making frequent tweaks or changes to your setup, which can be common in amateur radio operations. 3. **Space Efficiency**: Crank-up towers can be useful in areas with height restrictions or in residential settings where a permanent high structure might be problematic. They can be retracted to a lower height when not in use, making them less obtrusive. 4. **Durability in Weather**: The ability to lower these towers can protect your equipment during adverse weather conditions, such as high winds or severe storms, potentially prolonging the life of your antennas and the tower itself. 5. **Installation Flexibility**: These towers can be installed in locations where it might be difficult to erect a standard fixed tower due to space constraints or ground conditions. For amateur radio operators who are also managing other responsibilities, these features can make a crank-up or tilt-over tower a practical choice, balancing functionality with ease of use.

Seems like you need to change those gear ratios in the winch because it is very slow and cumbersome to wind the tower up. I think you need an electric winch. But good setup mate!
@AG5CC-USA
@AG5CC-USA 11 ай бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the input. You've got a good point about the gear ratios in the winch. It sounds like an electric winch might be a solid solution to speed things up and make the tower winding smoother. I'm all ears for suggestions on improvements like this. By the way, your hands-on experience in various fields must have given you quite the knack for tackling challenges like these. If you ever want to dive into more technical details or just have a chat about your other interests, feel free to let me know!
