QOTD: ⚡One of the better designed wallets for usability. What are your thoughts?

I only recently started looking for a good wallet with a smaller profile. Currently trying out the vBAX to see if I want the TROVE, I am about 50/50 on it at the moment, but need more time. I ordered the ROIK City yesterday, it looks like the perfect blend of features, size and quality for me. I did have a hard time deciding if I wanted to try the LAND instead, but I ordered the city. I also have a Trayvax OG 2.0 on order, hoping that is a good choice for a tactical/protective metal wallet. I just wanted to say I love your videos, they have been very helpful.

Looks like it would be a good I.D. case/Credit card wallet for me, with the option of putting bills into it if I wanted to. Though will likely just keep my auto insurance paperwork in that spot since I drive everywhere. Thank you for the review.

@ 2:37 - I'm confused. Are you saying there is no RFID on the outside, but there is RFID on the inside? It isn't clear to me.
@walletopia3 жыл бұрын
@@tfpp1 That's correct. The outside card slot does not have RFID material so you can use it for tap pay, bus passes, hotel keys etc, but the slots on the interior do have the RFID material.
@stephenlewis12463 жыл бұрын
@@walletopia Have you tested this yourself? I've never been able to make a contactless payment using a card in the outer slot without removing - but it's entirely possible that I'm simply daft. The material between the outer layer of leather and the cards in the outer slots looks very similar to the material inside the wallet, so I wonder if it is all RFID?

Finally...a blue color on the Emporia Cattani Ebay site! Picked one up, and wowzers- received it in 3 business days from Italy. Now granted...shipping cost was $29, but...they lived up to it. Very small footprint- just great. Exactly what I expected. Loaded everything in from my Nomad Slim, and will carry it for 2 months. Very impressed so far. Yes...US currency doesn't fit in the billfold, but that's not an issue. As pointed out in the review, just fold once, and the foldaway opening makes grabbing easy. I store "archive" cards in the other "foldaway" area in the billfold pocket, and it works great for that

A couple of months back I ordered the Mitchell Money Clip Wallet. I really do like it but I've wondered if there's a better fit for me out there. I'm not sure if this one will beat out the Mitchell, but I decided to order one and give it a shot. I was going to go for the orange but it's out of stock and I got the blue lagoon instead. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. Edit: My Roik arrived. I was hoping US bills would fit without the need for folding but they do not. The way Wally inserts them in the video is the only way they fit. If they had made this walled just a tad wider, it would have been perfect for me. Ah well... one of my nephews is going to get a nice wallet.
@obsidiansands4 жыл бұрын
The only "Blue Lagoon" I remember is that movie with Brooke Shields. The wallet is something I would like - if I hadn't gotten the STOW thanks to you. With money being tight as it is in this current climate, that thing is already over my budget. Great video as always!
@walletopia4 жыл бұрын
TBH that was the first "Blue Lagoon" association I made too 😂 but you have to be a certain age to appreciate that, haha!

Once again great video Mark . I watched it and because of addiction to wallets I bought it. I got the city navy blue colour and it is simply beautiful. It is quite minimal. I'm carrying six cards, don't really need to carry them . I've tried 10 ,holds them perfectly . Quality is great . It won't age badly as they have done something to the leather so it'll retain the original look . Card access is very easy . In my view even if one fits 10 cards , they can go back to carry less cards as it'll not loosen like the other leather wallets and cards don't fall out . Euro notes go in easily but not the US dollars. One has to fold them . Here is something i didn't like. The stiching on the back is not spot on but it's a different colour orange and it's hand stitched so probably that's the reason . I've contacted the customer service and after two days waiting for a reply. I think it is RFID protected for the bank cards even the front pockets even they claim it isn't but they don't say for what kind of cards it is not RFID protected . I was not able to tap the wallet and pay and had to take the card out , but since taking the card out is not an issue and is so easy I don't mind it. However for work purpose all the cards work fine on the outside pockets and I'm able to tap them and get in, so probably the frequency is only working for the non bank cards . Overall I'm satisfied and pleased with the wallet. I ordered for 55 euros including shipping and got in 7 working days. Shipping is free in Europe and I chose the free shipping option .
@walletopia4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Imran, that would match my experience as well.
@imran39164 жыл бұрын
Well the customer service got back to me fairly quickly and said it's a fault in the stitching and decided to send me a new without asking for the old one to be sent back. I only sent them the photos. The other thing they mention is inside of the wallet is RFID protected. What they mention inside is anything thats in any of the wallet pockets inside or outside . So generally the whole wallet is RFID protected . If one wants to use the non RFID feature ,open the wallet and tap inside pocket which is a bit of a hassle so taking the card out is the best option . I got the navy blue city colour and replacement as blue lagoon . I prefer the navy blue colour more but it's a personal preference .

@@imran3916 Good customer service, that's great to hear! I so wish companies would dispense with RFID, such a waste and it affects usability of the wallets.
@imran39164 жыл бұрын
@@walletopia Mark I agree , the problem is in Europe mostly tap feature is used. The other problem in my opinion is that companies who don't advertise RFID protection lose customers who want to hear FULL RFID PROTECTION . That increases their sales and other companies have to keep up unfortunately .

I bought two Roik wallets, the Avenue and the City. Shipping was fast. Came from Italy and got to me in CA in three days. I am returning the City. I find the Avenue far superior. The Avenue protects cards, especially business cards, and keeps them in better shape. Access to bills is far superior. With the City you have to fold dollars. They fit unfolded in the Avenue. I spend a lot of time in Europe and even with Euros, which fit unfolded in both the City and Avenue, access to cash is far less cumbersome. Card access is also better with the Avenue. The Avenue holds more cards and cash, yet loaded with the same quantity it is thinner than the City, although slightly larger in width and length. I carry in my front pocket. This has replaced my Anson Calder cash wallet, which I found over time was rough on currency and cards and access to cash became burdensome.
@walletopia4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rex, we've had many requests for a review of the Avenue and your insight is excellent!
@rexwriter4 жыл бұрын
@@walletopia Thanks Mark. I appreciate your Site and reviews. Since I decided to downsize from my Louis Vuitton, almost two years ago, I've gone through several wallets. The Anson Calder, Cash, Zip and International Billfold, Distilunion Wally Euro, Mitchell Leather Money Clip, Nodus and a few others. I wanted something to carry in my front pocket, but that could accommodate a decent supply of cash. Preserving cards, including business cards, excellent leather quality and ease of use. I carried the Anson Calder Cash the longest. It's a very good minimalist wallet, but I found it over time too hard on cards and cumbersome for cash. I loved the leather on the Mitchell, but found no external features and the fan of cash that opened up when I opened the wallet to get to cards, bothersome. The Nodus's usability was hampered by the too tight fit of everything. So far, at least for now, I have found the Roik Avenue to be superior in all these aspects.

Might give this a shot if I misplace my Note Sleeve again... has most of the features I'm looking for and fits my local currency without having to fold the notes

I bought the Roik City wallet after watching this review. It's a nice wallet. However, I was a bit disappointed to discover you can't use the outer pockets for quick payment with RFID cards. The wording on the website makes it a bit difficult to understand, but it appears that the outer pockets (as well as the inner pockets) are RFID protected. I personally think it defeats the purpose of the outer pockets a bit. I wrote customer support to clarify. This was their answer: "RFID protection generally covers the entire wallet. However, what is 100% safe is the inside, since the outside may depend on the position in which the card is kept. "

Indeed, there are several clever points to this wallet and can tell they put effort into the design and usability instead of throwing together another me-too wallet which we see much these days.

I have a wallet similar with the open fold area for the billfold. It’s strange but it gets annoying when you’re fighting to get cash back into the wallet as one half doesn’t open properly, so you end up wrestling the cash in it (you did a little bit with the Euro, Mark). A single bill slot works better I feel. Great colour and I still like the design, just not that split billfold. 😀👍🏻 You had to have a Blue Pelikan too! Very nice.
@walletopia4 жыл бұрын
Good point, didn't think about it, but if I carried a wallet for any period of time I could see that being a problem, instead of one sweeping motion for the billfold pocket you have to contend with two separated pieces.

Officially the wallet only supports up to 50€ bills :) that's why the 100€ bill struggled.

Thank you so much! Looks like I will either have to stick with the bellboy not sleeve or the Harber London bifold wallet. I was hoping for something even more slim than those two, to put in the inside pocket of my suit jacket. I wanted a leather wallet for professional wear. Otherwise I have the Secrid mini wallet and am in ABSOLUTE LOVE with it. Have had it for 3 years and it has been held up really well. Not a single problem with the mechanism. Are you at all able to review the Harber London? It has a magnetic latch that I think would work better than the open concept of the traditional wallet like the note sleeve.

it's just my opinion. These small 'pocket items' no matter who designed them shouldn't fall in the category of 'wallets', less even cost so much. They're just simple 'card holders' in which one finds a small extra room for a little bent cash. It's like calling practical comfortable real wallets 'card holders'. Each to his own.
