Tough Bite at South West Rocks - Kayak Fishing

First off a disclaimer: If you are under some kind of impressions that because the words South West Rocks are in the title of this video, you assume that there will be some epic marlin footage you will be disappointed...
The opportunity to do a quick run down to South West Rocks finally came about! A trip that I have been wanting to do for a long time… The trip reports from this place are legendary, with everything from Bill fish to Wahoo, Snapper to Yellowfin, and everything in between. But this all comes with the price of it being a fickle placed to fish and the switch can flicked on or off at any time.
Hit the road with Dennis from AKS who needed to do a few deliveries, the perfect excuse to keep going to SWR. Meeting up with Paul and Tommo from Coffs Harbour, we gave it a red hot go. Bait was easy enough to find but the bigger fish just weren't there with few reports of fish being caught around the campsite from boats or kayaks. Dennis and Paul managed some nice Buzzer beater fish fish on Friday and Saturday and the Sunday trip got cut short but all in all it was a great time away with mates and definitely a trip I will be doing many more times.
This vid is a little lite on fish but I hope you all still enjoy the trip report. I give everyone a big fish guarantee for the next few videos!

Hey Ryan, Yea I should get into the habit for my eyes sake, but I just spend forever cleaning water drops from the paddle off them on the kayak and I always forget to put them on when on land so just gave up with sunnies.

Your videos are pure joy! Very inspiring..I have to get a good kayak to fish the ocean. Started kayak fishing on a 4 month trip to NZ but living in Brazil its hard and very expensive to get good ocean kayaks. There finally is a Hobie retailer here, but there's no way to get a Stealth. Anyways I got to get one, can't waste more years without doing this..so addictive. Wish you more luck with the marlin next time! Thanks for sharing your adventures

Using heavy sinkers really helps with tangle on their sabiki; I typically use 8-10oz.

Yea, I do have a decent size sinker on but those bonnies are big enough to make a mess sometimes. Ill see if a bigger one helps.

Like you said - that's fishing. It's good to see the hard work with little reward on camera sometimes as well. Makes the rest of us think you are less than a God for one vid ;) Not sure when you were out there, but only a few weeks ago a bloke I know snagged himself his first Marlin out there. How long do your reels last. Especially when they cop all that spray.

Yea, the kayak is very tough on the reels for sure. The overheads can take it and get serviced every year, lots of grease! I used to go through lots of spin reels and pretty much gave up on them for a bit until I started using the SpinfisherVs the seals keeps them running no problems. Now the Slammer 3 is out I will be switching to them from now on. Better ipx6 seal and much better internals. My SpinfisherVs are about 2 years old now and still going.

yea I went through a stage of using cable ties, it worked well enough but just more making around so now just go strait behind the head or though the nostrils 👍
