Within just 2 versions of their new plugin, the ROKOKO team have not only solved a BIG problem with Blender, they've also simplified the workflow, AND have explained how to apply the method in a way that anyone can follow. This couldn't have come at a better time. Just got our smart suit last week. So far I've spent most of the time messing with re-targeting solutions for Blender. Just gave this a go and it makes it so much easier. Additive layer corrections will be a breeze now!

I do think your method has more control, i didnt see any method of animating on top of the rig like you showed. THough i think using bones vs empties would be more useful so you can use other addon to control bone layers etc

6:25 for this issue if you apply the armature modifier, click on the armature, then go to pose>apply>apply pose as rest pose, then re-apply the armature modifier, it fixes the issue without having to manually readjust the armature.

Current / Pose function seems not working as intented. I am using 1.4 at the moment. I have a UE5 APose mannequin and my animation (rokoko) in TPose. I put my Mannequin into TPose and retarget with 'POSE' option. My arms get crossed. It works if I apply my pose to rest (with cats plugin) but that messes up my skeleton and if I import my edited animation to UE5 it is messed up. I tried everything and POSE/CURRENT seems not working. Is there any sort of documentation that I can read.

The auto bone orientation can cause issues depending on what the source rig uses. If that was imported different, you get tangeled limbs, looks kinda weird. A solution is to play with the first and second bone and see when the Z is pointing down or is pointing in the same direction as the source bones are. You need to check the limbs for this, mostly noticeable on the arms.

Hi! You need to make sure that the two poses match each other. If they don't, it can cause the joints to get dislocated when trying to retarget the animation. If this is the case you can jump to the "A-Pose character fix" chapter in this video.

You know what would be nice! if we could save the bone list from the target, so we could reuse that list for other models which use the same rig. That way a user would not have to redo that manual correction. Would be nice if they could add a "Save Preset" enum menu.

version 1.1.1 no longer functions properly when retargeting third party animations, such as mixamo. 1.1.0 had no issues, but with 1.1.1 it insists on leaving the root bone at its starting location. so, this means my character moves forward, but her hips stay in the starting position. reverting to the previous version fixes this entirely. all the assets are the exact same ones, the Rokoko plugin was the only variable. i have tested several times and every time i revert to previous version, everything functions properly again. thanks and be well

Will there be retargeting features for IK legs and arms.... This is a great addition, and would love if I could use it on our production rigs at work, for a long time we have been using Auto rig pro to retarget our Rokoko data onto rigs, which has been working for us, but it does limit what we can do

If you have a Subdivision Surface Modifier in place, make sure to set Viewport to 0 before retargeting, unless you want to wait all day for it to finish.

Another way to fix that Tpose or Apose issue, is apply the armature modifier when its in Tpose or Apose, then apply it and add it again and relink the armature.

It does! In our opinion this is really the best plugin for retargeting mocap / joint movements in general from Blender. You can aways input the joints to be transfered manually, so that allows for a lot of freedom when transfering joint movement.

Heyo! The first frame of the animation should match the rest pose of the character. The easiest way to do this is to use a standard pose like the T-pose at frame zero in your animation, then just scrub the first frame when rendering so it doesn't show up in the final result.

The download with the viking character only has warriorDual and warriorLinear, in the video Romer_TPOSE is used which is not included. I'm getting incorrect results @Rokoko any change to update the warior zip file? I will try to correct the pose, but it would be nice that it's possible to follow the tutorial. More people in the chat seem to have this problem. I could understand that this video gets remade when Rokoko Studio Beta is in a further state do!

@@RokokoMotion Thanks for the fast reply. While the pose is correct, I noticed there is a bigger problem (also in the older file). The warior skeleton has hips, spline[1-4], where the skeleton from rokoko has just spline[1-4] and DOES NOT have the hips bone. This makes the retarget go wrong cause all the vertices that belong to the hip are not retargeted to anything, and there is no slot to manually fix this.

I see! You might want to try a different export setting from Rokoko Studio if that's the case. Are you using the Maya HumanIK setting when exporting? That works pretty well for most cases (it's just a different bone layout and naming standard)

I'm strongly considering ditching my Perception Neuron V1 Mocap Suit for a new Rokoko suit- but do you have a livestreaming plugin for Unity / Unreal Engine? I'd rather use FaceCap for capturing my facial animations than Rokoko's inhouse facial capture.- Also what's going on with the finger tracking gloves? Haven't heard anything.

Why am I missing Rokoko ID pannel? I have only those four other pannels (info, updater, studio api and studio live). I even tried to instal it to my 2.90 version and it's still the same. :(

What version does your Rokoko plugin say it is when you check in the Preferences>Add-Ons? It should be v1.1 - if it is v1.0 then you are still running the old plugin. Let us know if that was the issue!

I have a question about this - super cool btw - I imported an FBX into Blender with all the same settings as in your video, but instead of a skeleton, the rokoko model came in. Also, not in T-pose, but in the classic "I'm leaning over and clicking my mouse" start pose. :-) So I figured out that I need to uncheck "mesh" to get just the skeleton, BUT I cannot get a T-pose. Every time I import an FBX from Rokoko it comes into Blender without a T-pose, but in the pose at the start of the performance. What am I doing wrong?

Heyo! Adding the rig is just the process of pairing the mesh to the bones, but you will also have to animate the bones afterwards. As for face capture, the process is similar but you will need your mesh to have the same 52 blendshapes as the ARkit that we use for that, if you want to easily retarget to your character.

Hi! You can use the retargeting part of the plugin for transfering animation between any two joints / joint trees - you just may need to input the values manually. So if you had a mocap skeleton and animation generated from a Kinect, you could retarget that animation to a character using the plugin - any skeleton will work. Hope that answers your question!

Hi! Yes, you can retarget to a Rigify rig. The workflow is pretty similar to doing the normal retargeting without a control rig. Make sure you map out your bones correctly. Then you have to match the two poses and select "apply pose as rest pose". Then you choose the "current pose" option and you should be able to retarget the animation to your Rigify rig

This is really awesome, and Im loving Rokoko studio so far (the interface is SOOO AMAZINGLY SMOOTH AND CLEAN!), but sometimes, my motion capture data does not work well with my character. Some parts, like the arms, go INTO the the body of my character. This only happens when I use motion captures like walking, where the arms swing up and down, and hit the hips of my character. The arms just go THROUGH my mesh of my character. Any help? I'm relatively new to blender, so maybe im doing something wrong.

I tried it and when I hit sign in I get a traceback error. oserror win error 126 the specified module could not be found. I follow your steps exactly for the A Pose fix, however after retargeting my animation loses its locomotion and some of the bones offset. Any fix for this?

Hi! Make sure that the two poses match as close as possible. This will give you the best result. For the bone offset, open your skeleton in Unreal engine. Where it says "Skeleton Tree" click the options dropdown and turn on "Show Retargeting Options". Then for the offset bones, you want to change the option from Animation to Skeleton. Then save your skeleton asset. For the loss of locomotion make sure that you have a root bone in both the character skeleton and the skeleton you are retargeting from, and that the retarget manager has been set up correctly.

i spent hours trying to fix this... select your armature, go to the dope sheet, select action editor, then create a new action. then it should work i had to go down to blender 2.91.2 and rokoko addon version 1.2.1 for any of it to actually work, hopefully this saves you some time :)

@@reignrl i also contact rokoko service team about the issue, they told me to use 3.2 version of blender since then it's working smoothly after applying retargeting from 3.2 version i export fbx to 3.4 version. That's how I am doing doing work in blender 3.4

Good afternoon. Please tell me. I can't find the answer anywhere. How can I attach not one, but several fbx rokoko to my character? It’s difficult to do the entire animation in one frame. I'm just learning and using the free version of rokoko, perhaps this function is available in the paid version? but I can't find any information anywhere. At least tell me, in principle, is it possible to link several motion files to a character and this cannot be done?

Hi Phil, the current version is only for Windows. We will be releasing Linux and Mac versions soon. Could that be the issue? If you are in the newest version of Blender, this should definitely work for Windows. Yes! The Rokoko Blender Plugin will work for retargeting any mocap (or really any joint based keyframe animations) to characters - not just for Rokoko created mocap.

Did you use English as the language for Blender? For some reason some languages aren't able to login. But this will be fixed in the future

you need to make a standalone retargeter. many people will avoid this plugin due to the absurdity of having to create an account, connect blender to the internet and login just to use the retargeting portion of this. i am not a python programmer, but this has given me incentive to rewrite your code to make the retargeter stand-alone and Offline. (I am not suggesting any malicious intent by rokoko, but the retargeter should have been accessible without an account, and the login required only for the functions that you would nomally be logged in to the website/core application for.)

Here's our reasoning: All usage of Rokoko products requires a Rokoko ID. It is our way of keeping track of what’s popular among our users, so we can better prioritize what new features and products will be most beneficial to get done (among the many things we have in our pipeline). Although we decided to give away this retargeting tool for free, it of course wasn’t free to create and it is a part of our Rokoko Studio Live plugin for Blender. That plugin requires a Rokoko Studio Plus subscription ($19/month). We wanted to be generous with the Blender community and provide these solutions for free, but this product will still be treated in the same way as all our other products when it comes to the Rokoko ID. Hope that clears it up and that you understand our reasoning. Thanks, Rokoko

@@nomorecookiesuser2223 Thanks a lot. The free version that we've released for the retargeting will keep being free. However, if you want to use the entire plugin in this video where you connect it with Rokoko Studio and stream data from either your suit, gloves or something else to the plugin, you will need to subscription. One caveat though, we are planning to change our pricing structure soon, so people working singlehandedly on project with small budgets can access this all for free. Will be rolled out in late September. More info then :) Thanks!
