Literally LMAO here - so many "city dwellers" would have been freaking out, claiming they were dying, threatening to sue the bike manufacturer, the town and the state - you were worrying about "never hearing the end of this" from your friends in town, and rode out under your own power - kudos to you from a Canadian fellow - traveller ;-D

MICHAEL COULTER The worst part was the ride out.. I'd pulled a stick over to sit on and keep my butt out of the water. After almost an hour of sitting on it I bruised my tailbone. Rode 2.5 miles back to the highway with my butt hanging off the rear of the seat. Spent the next 2 weeks sitting on a doughnut pillow.

Boy you got that right, it's always somebody elses fault. Theres no such thing as accepting responsibility for our own actions anymore, and alot of these wimps nowdays would have expected a helicopter ride to the emergency room, and wanted to sue the stick that bruised their tail bone, or God because he made it! Lol

Glad you weren't seriously hurt. As part of my off-road gear I carry one of those mini shovel-pick combinations (I think it is made by Coughlin). It is quite small and can easily be carried in almost any size pack, and can come in very handy. In your case if you couldn't lift the bike up to get your leg out you may have been able to dig out enough earth to free it up enough for a self-extrication. Keep up the good work. paladin2043 The problem was the dried out root clump jammed around and behind my knee with the weight of the bike on top. Trying to push up on the bike pushed the other end of the log down and levered the root clump up. Dig under it and everything would have just settled lower.

glad you're ok, i prolly woulda bagged on that bike so hard after I got outta there in frustration lol. I'd likely have blown the front wheel drive system clean off my Rokon. On that note I did have the front wheel drive chain break on me while zipping along and the transfer of power really took me for one hell of a scary ride. Anyways i'm glad you were just putting along when you fell, but it just goes to show you when tooling about in terrain like that with holes, and sticks and all kinds of things to snag your legs up in under the bike, it could sure have been a really rough night if you didn't have a phone or radio to call for help with. I always tell someone about where I'll be riding when I have to go alone, but even then half the time with no phone I'd still have to wait it out for a long time before help came, never mind of a curious bear, cougar or something came along and decided it was interested in your Rokon LOL. Glad your OK, and thanks for having the stones to share the video, don't feel embarrassed we have all had stuff like this happen to us. Cheers, IC

IcechickenSr I did have a Personnel Locator Beacon with me in case I was out of cell range. What happened was as I was crossing that little log the bike started to tilt and I put my foot down. Unfortunately I put it down into the hole I fell into.

No reason for any embarrassment here. One of the persistent themes in your videos is your habit of stopping and looking things over before you proceed. There is a lot to learn here. Wilderness areas in general and Alaska in particular do not forgive anything. I had a few close calls when I lived on the Kenai Peninsula out in the middle of Moosefart Nowhere. In my case I had to learn to pay more attention to what I was doing. In your case, you have that skill. Putting your foot down in a bad place is just unfortunate. You kept your head and faced the realities of the situation. Result: You won. Liked/Subscribed

Do you have the rest of the footage of them riding with you? Cool Video. Super embarrassing. I once got my friends enduro stuck on a clay walking path and i couldn't get it out. over a 40 minute walk back to the road, and then i had to hitch hike (Before i had a cell..) then gathered my 4 friends, all walked back in to the forest (in the dusk) and we all had a grand time slipping and sliding my friends sp370 up a clay walking path... Thats my most embarrasing bike story. Shit happens when you ride alone

any fall you can walk away from... your ok, dignity still intact. bikes ok. the FD guys seemed cool about it. and lesson learned: trails with that level of....dont know if you would call it swamp with that amount of brush laying around, id just call it grade A shit. but those kind of trails should be left alone when alone. alternatively dunno if you tried it or not. hindsight's 20/20 and i hope you dont get in a situation like this again but using a branch or pole to give you a bit of leverage to lift. or stowing a 50ft bundle of paracord and one of those camp hooks you can use a makeshift pulley setup to lift the bike. slip the paracord through the loop on the camp hook, tie one end to the bike tie the other end to your wrist. you will be throwing the center part of the paracord with the camp hook trying to get over a thick branch or in the case of the situation in the video if you could have gotten around the roots sticking up of the tree you were pinned to that would have worked. (you dont really need a hook, just a weight to make throwing the paracord easier) then once the paracord is looped over the branch or hook is caught on a rock you can start pulling on the end attached to your wrist (attached to you so it dosent fling out of reach while trying to loop) just a couple thoughts and i hope you dont have to use them but knowledge is the best tool we can have. keep truckin.

UH. I been off roading for over 50 years. This was four years ago and three years after getting a hip replaced. This happened at Sheridan Glacier Alaska. I was well equipped for most stuff but didn't have room on the bike for everything
