The code you're talking about is: home button five times up arrow button one time rewind twice fast forward twice It will then kind of spaz out and just let it do it spaz and reboot thing. People on the interwebs have said this works but I know it didn't work for me. The other thing that didn't work for me that some people said has worked for them is they have to darken the room to see the picture on the television and once they do they go into settings and television display and adjust the brightness. I guess because poltergeist or leprechauns or underwear gnomes are coming in and changing the brightness level at night? Not too sure but supposedly that is a fix that has a tendency to work too. But from what I've been reading it seems like the backlight issue tends to come into play sooner or later. I don't know much about the ONN brand, but from what I do know is, that in my opinion, I don't think they're going to be around much longer...

Yes the brightness is definitely the problem with mines or something. My Onn tv works fine only at night and in the morning but when the sun is out and reflecting my tv it just have the black screen

My Hisense TV went black screen and sound was okay, after seeing your video, I took step two, unplug from wall, waited 90 seconds, than press the power button at back of TV for 30 seconds, than waiting for another 30 sec, I kept my finger on power button and within few seconds could see TV rebooting. Hooray it fixed my problem. Thanks for your video.

I have a tcl Roku tv w/ black screen. The volume works. I tried the unplugging step- it didn’t work. I tried the remote reset and it didn’t work. I even tried the reset button and it didn’t work. After all checks the screen would show the Roku screen and then slowly fade back to black. What do you think?

Thinking about my Roku - Sharp tv as a computer monitor was a great point. Unfortunately, the method didn’t work for me. My screen remains dark. If I squint, I can somewhat see my apps. Still didn't work😢 Mine just stopped working one day when I went to go turn it on I got that backlight screen with some white around some edges & as it warmed up they would disappear. After leaving it on for a couple hours it would finally come on... now I still get the backlight & white dots, too, sound but no pic. I did a factory reset on the back, kept it plugged in and pressed the power button for 30 sec until I heard the TV power down (kind of like what youd do w/ your phone), nothing. I did the sequence thing, nothing. I left it unplugged for days, nothing but backlight. Also, if I touch the screen, it would turn white where I'm pushing... crazy! Mine is a TCL ROKU 4K. I got it in 2017 from Costco... I wonder if they'd take it back???

I tried this process multiple times, a few times unplugging and holding power for 60 seconds still didn't work tried for 30 again nothing back to 1 minute with no luck or improvement. Also heard about accessing a menu and clearing all unused applications unfortunately my screen is completely black and cannot see anything in the menu LOL I still need help please lol

Our TV ended up going out totally after only having it about 8 months total. What a shame! Won’t buy ONN anymore. Just a heads up for everyone with an ONN. Our screen started acting like it was totally broke! ONN support ending up refunding is still in warranty time period

Hello everyone, for the most part TCL and ONN brand TVs are junk that just do not last. The tv we use to replace these crappy ones are The Hisense Roku TVs which are awesome! Same here. Luckily I was able to look up my receipt from Walmart by using my debit card, store location and amount of transaction. Within minutes they were able to find it and email it to me. Now Onn is hopefully sending me a refund check. Worst timing though since I’m home from recent surgery.

I’ve tried this and pressing the buttons on the remote and when it does turn on it’s frozen and the screen starts fading to black from the right side first and spreads across until it’s all black but it’s still a n because you can see the light but you can’t see anything on the screen

This is a temporary fix until it goes black again, this is a software issue with Roku and certain TVs. Either they need to send an update for it or a new software to replace the current one because it will keep doing it.

I'm having a problem of not having video when using my apps. The only app that works with sound and video is Netflix. KZbin, HBO, Paramount +, has graphics on the menu and sound, but when I select a video to stream I only get sound and have a black screen. It's also odd because if I fast forward, I see the video clips at the bottom of the screen as it forwards, but when I select play, there just a black screen again. Very frustrating.

My neighbor gave me this TV to fiddle with tonight. it went out after 30 days of usage. I put a flashlight up to it and bada bing bada boom the backlight isn't working. I tried the hard reset, the soft reset, factory reset, the reset button reset, the weird Roku codes... all of that jazz, to no avail. So then I started looking at how to fix it which the first thing I came across was pretty easy you order some lights you take off the back panel and put lights in spot a b and c and it's fixed. Well that was just wrong. Turns out it could be like a couple different things wrong with a couple different boards and so there's videos out there that break it down how to go through this process of elimination to figure out what board and what issue and what needs to be replaced or what needs this rig to work, the time it would take to do that in and of its own I feel isn't worth it not to mention the tools you have to have just to figure out what's wrong with it is crazy. I mean I guess not if you already have the tools but if you don't it's crazy. So much easier to just have it out with the manufacturer and get your money back. That's what my neighbor did. From how I understand it they wanted to I guess send her shipping labels or something to where she's sending each different part to a repair person and they're checking it out and then once they find the faulty parts they're fixing it...? Regardless, she wasn't having it. And I agree, it would have taken too long and too much of a hassle to resolve it that way. Finally they caved and refunded her the purchase price, and as they should have. I guess my next query to Google will be how much can I get for this TV at the recycling center? 😂

Yikes! Ours did the same actually and the background flashed colors like a cracked screen makes with weird lines. Unfortunately even though what I do in the video did work a few times, ONN ended up refunding the full purchase price to me as it was under warranty and I purchased a different brand

Only have a similar problems with this on my parents TV and it's black sometimes for no reason when I turn it on so I have to push the power button on me twice so my Roku would show something on the screen when it does go black on me and there's also other times at the TV's already off but they're still sound for about 5 seconds
