Playing through all the 64 factory sounds of this awesome under the radar 80's Juno. The Super-8 footage was filmed with a Canon 514XL.

Roland Alpha Juno 2 is remembered for its Hoover Sound, base of many early 90 techno tracks. I love this sound!

@@Laserdave68C I just bought TAL-Pha, the VST emulation of the alpha juno 2 from TAL Sorftware. I have been told that this VST can also be used as a controller/programmer for the hardware unit. Worth giving it a try.

I bought my Alpha Juno 2 six months ago from a bloke in Japan. It was in near mint condition, even had the music stand included! Taking into account import tax it, it only cost me around £430. Planning, later this month to buy the DTronics DT300 V2, as a programmer really opens this synth up. The AJ-2 is a wonderful synth, and completely underrated. Folk always bang on about how good the Chorus is on the older Junos, but the Chorus on the Alphas sounds way cooler, it's way more versatile as well.

That's a really good price, congrats! The chorus on this synth is so cool, I agree. I also got the DT300, which really unlocks the hidden potential. The membrane buttons and lack of onboard control is probably the main reason why this synth is so underrated. I found this one for a little over £300, but mine is nowhere near mint. The upper left corner wheel is 3d-printed and a bit wonky, and the name of some high school is scratched on the synth, but everything essential is in fully working condition! :'D

This sounds incredible! Like a forgotten cross between a Prophet 5 and a Roland RS-09. Why doesn’t Roland make these again?? It’s the perfect size, plus it has MIDI. I want one.

What a trip down Memory Lane! An Alpha Juno-1 was my very first new synth - in part because it was the only one in my budget at the time (I was only 19 after all). While I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't afford the Korg DW-6000 that I really wanted, I was super stoked to walk out of the music store with a shiny new synth that day. That Alpha Juno-1 really made me a Roland fanboy; I am still one to this day! Although I sold it back in 2000, along with a TR-707 that I had also purchased, I'm kind of sad that I did. Still waiting to see if they will ever make a Alpha Juno/PG-300 software Instrument for Roland Cloud... C'mon Roland!

There's a free software programmer for Alpha Juno already

Several of these presets sound almost identical to ones on the JX-8p and both Super JX models. Were all four of them (and the Alpha Juno 1) programmed by the same people? What’s the preset at 20:35? How is that modulation effect achieved?

@@patscorneroftheuniverse It's all good, don't be afraid to play bass in that first octave. Sounded great on headphones. 👍

Why would you play a melody with chords while using a patch called LeadSynth?

Can't play solos. :)

Why would you want to listen to all of the factory sounds of the alpha juno, since most of them are rubbish anyway? It’s a great synth and you can get decent sounds out of this in minutes.

I think it's a matter of taste. Some people like to just get on with composing using ready made patches, while others like to dig into the sounds themselves. I get both ways but for what ever reason looking for new sounds never just interested me that much. I like the vintage ready made patches and getting on with making music. I also like the restraint and the fact that these are famous old sounds, I might be weird.
