Roland BK5 vs Korg i3, which one suit your playing style?

I finally bought a second hand I3 for myself as father day's gift ;) . To my surprise, I really love its user interface and sound quality. With a good pair of headphone, you will notice that the sound quality is high, with clarity, stereo width and punch. Sure, Korg's piano is no where as realistic as Yamaha/Roland/Casio but it is very expressive and punchy when you play chord. Solo at higher register do sound a bit like smooth jazz piano. However, the overall sounds are very responsive to touch with nice nuance and texture. Some of the individual sound may at first sounded weak but when combined as soundset, you get really cool rich/fat sounds when playing live. The styles can be improved of course, but thank to the super easy user interace and set list, you can easily change the sound and customise different parts to make interesting style variation. It is a wonderful busking keyboard and nice little sketch pad when you want to experiment with song composition.

Aunque en esta comparación de sonidos, recuerda que BK5 es mas de 10 años de diferencia, en particular yo tengo los 2 instrumentos el I3 y el BK5👍

Hey. It may be good to do a comparison between old Roland BK5 vs the new Roland Go Keys 3/5. I suspect the new Roland Go Keys 3/5 's keybed and the output sound quality is not as good as the old BK5. Korg i3 can still be great if the sounds and styles are updated. Older keyboard has better DAC I think. Their output quality is better than many newer keyboard. The accompaniments of new Roland Go Keys 3/5 sound very weak and unclear at times. Drum has no punch and all instruments seem to compress together without proper stereo width.

Hello,saya coba jawab semampunya ya.. 1. Untuk distortion guitar beda karakter ya,menurut saya Korg i3 lebih tebal tapi BK5 lebih real artikulasinya,kalau pendapat pribadi saya lebih pilih BK5 2. Keduanya bisa diisi style dari luar asal sesuai format masing-masing merk tinggal dimasukin ke flashdisk di folder styles 3. Untuk baca style Yamaha harus di-convert menjadi style Roland/Korg,saya sih gak pernah convert gitu karena tdk ada waktunya,biasanya beli jadi/download dari group/komunitas Roland&Korg

Betul.. masih salah satu yg terbaik, dibanding Yamaha menurut saya hanya beda karakter aja, semua tergantung kebutuhan lagunya, kalo lagu Jazz/Rock lebih tegas Yamaha, tapi untuk mellow/group akustikan saya pikir lebih unggul Roland

I haven't record the accompaniment into a multi track sequencer? Do you mean like record it into DAWs like Cubase, Logic Pro, etc? I believe you can edit it later if you record it in MIDI, as long as I know you can separate the MIDI channel in each track after you record it in DAWs

Hello.. in my video I don't play edited/downloaded piano sounds, just the default built in sounds, I don't even bother to turn off the fx 😁 just want to play the sounds like in a gigging situation, on paper the sounds are exactly the same as Korg PA50/microarranger, I happened to also have microarranger but from what I hear the i3 have smoother sounds, probably Korg has renew the DAC output? I don't know exactly 😊

For a more realistic acoustic piano solo sound like playing a real piano in front of you, try the Chorus Piano Preset but you may need to boost the part volume up a bit, change the effect to a different type of reverb (maybe smaller room/hall ) and cut down the send level to match your room acoustic. Also consider reducing the treble with the knob. The default Korg Grand Piano sound is very clean/clear, dynamic, expressive and punchy at lower octave but can get a bit bright and metalic from C5 octave onward. It's great in a mix or for smooth jazz solo but can sound a bit synthetic and bright for soft ballard piano solo.

Sir do you still have your i3? Can you do a video about the fill in. I can hear from other videos that it doesnt have a smooth transition if pressed out of timing. Or is it okay to press it on the second beat or 3rd. Thanks. More power.

Yes, I still have it. I don't know if that comes from the keyboard or just me don't getting used to the dual function of the button but yes I also experience lack of sensitivity when I press the fill in button. That's why I just keep bringing my Microarranger if the gig required full backing rhythm and I brought the i3 if the gig is with small band,a trio with singers,etc which only require casual use of rhythm/styles. Both are for different job & purpose 😊👍

Kalo menurut saya menangnya i3 di: 1. Electric piano 2. Strings 3. Organ 4. Synth 5. Drums Menangnya CTX 5000 di: 1. Piano akustik 2. Solo woodwind (flute, oboe, dll) 3. Brass 4. Saxophone 5. Solo violin Jadi saling melengkapi aja.

Halo.. kalo itu opsinya saya pilih Roland BK5, krn utk i3 & EK50 minim tombol jadi kalo penggunaan dominan single keyboard cukup jadi problem sih hahaha.. saya pake i3 krn utk ngeband/wedding gig akustik, kalo full organ tunggal untuk ibadah sepertinya bisa aja sih asal terbiasa menunya & style yg sering kita pake sdh di save di user bank kita, utk BK3 rasanya nanggung dibanding BK5 karena sound & rhythmnya lebih dikit dan kayaknya agak jauh kuantitasnya,jadi kurang worth it 😊🙏

Yes, it's possible.. the speakers will be off only if you insert the cable in headphone out slot, or through setting in the menu

Halo.. kalo urusan bagusan mana tergantung selera & kebutuhan pemainnya sih ya hehehe tapi kalo mau subyektif menurut saya: 1. Piano: BK5 2. Electric piano: i3 3. Saxophone: BK5 4. Strings: i3 5. Organ: imbang 6. Pad: BK5 7. Brass: i3 8. Leadsynth: imbang 9. Drum: imbang, dua-duanya cukup real&punchy tapi untuk kendang unggul i3 Ya kurang lebih begitu lah 😊

Betul sih.. i3 masih pake teknologi sound sample lama dari jaman PA50/PA80 jadi kurang "update" untuk kualitas soundnya,andai dia ambil sound yang lebih modern di era nya Kross 2/Krome pasti lebih direspon para calon pembeli 😊

Saya kurang suka dengan BK3,bukan berarti jelek ya cuma fiturnya agak nanggung, tinggal nambah dikit jadi BK5 hehehe.. Untuk karakter sound sama aja sih antara i3 dengan BK5, masing-masing ada kelebihan-kekurangannya

Itu sound bawaan apa adanya sih,gak ada yg saya off kan fx nya,memang kalo keyboard Korg karakternya kaya akan fx,beda dengan Roland yang lebih "murni" kalo utk live perform itu yg bikin sound Korg terdengar "mewah" tapi utk Roland malah jadi kedengeran lebih "real"
