Steven Rutter (B12, FireScope Records, Warp) will be playing an all-live set at the highly coveted New Year's event, Silvester Klubnacht, armed with an arsenal of Roland Boutique and Roland AIRA instruments.
In this video, Steven describes his preparation for the event, how he builds his live sets around Roland Boutique instruments and how he challenges himself on the world's biggest dance stage.

If only. I have four boutiques and a System-8 and love them all, but the analog purists will go to their grave insisting they don't sound as good. It's always great to see one of the pioneers of electronica who gets it though.

We use them to monitor Ableton allow us to trigger clips and monitor levels without the need to touch the laptop.

He says that the TR-8 is "monitoring the input of the sound card"; how does that routing work exactly? It appears that the TR-8 is using the aux input, so is the final stereo out coming out of the TR-8 or the Scarlett interface? I tried doing something like this with the TR-8 so that I could use the scatter feature on the overall mix, but I found it actually quite limiting in practice since it meant giving up control over each track in Ableton, and instead just using a single input channel. How do you do this without an external mixer?

I definitely would avoid using any form of touch screen live!. Just think about how sweaty it's going to be in there! Do iPads still respond to conductive touch with sweaty mincers? Doubt it 😂
