I bought one in 1988 after playing through the presets with headphones on my head in the local music shop. My only thought after that was " I * C R A V E * O N E * O F * T H E S E ! ! ! o_0 " I got one later that year and played it to death and loved every second, so ... Last autumn I bought a D-05 Boutique as the market started to dry up too soon for them and I got cold feet. It's same same but smaller !!!
@michaelwagner88594 жыл бұрын
@@pinkponyofprey1965 I had an identical experience. I played the presets through a headset and couldn't believe my ears! I looked at the sales rep and said - This, I'm getting! It took me a few months to save up, but I came back to take one home. This year in 2020 I bought another (my original I sold in the late 1990s).

@Жан Клон Read the original post again. It's about the D50 when it hit the market back then, right? I have a D05 now and it's great. The Roland Cloud however is something I won't touch with a ten foot pole. It's just modern extorsion subscription.

I still have mine from back in the day. When I do use it, it’s primarily as a controller. I ran it through my tube guitar amp rig the other day and it did sound great. What used to drive me crazy when jamming with a synth player was ... PATCH-HUNTING! It would take them forever to audition patches and decide on one.

Do you have a bank that is either straight 80's or recreations of acoustic instruments? While I liked the Valhalla digital bank, seemed more geared towards the DX-7 branch. Would love to hear other banks towards what I said or analog type banks? I have 7 Roland synths and a footstep from a mint D-50, I just need another reason to buy it :)

you already need that d50, get it! I have the "valhalla analog" bank, I'm curious about that one myself so I'll check it out. I guess all the D50 soundbanks are by default straight 80's...? :) personally not interested in acoustic patches. thanks for the comment!

@Jonny - If you're interested in a superb Librarian/Editor for your D-550, I can't stop promoting an amazing program from Chris Nightingale, called "D-50 Librarian". Really awesome program, written specifically for the D-50/D-550. Great database organizer for your patches and you can double-click patches and audition them "live" on the D-50 before you even transfer them over permanently. Check it out. www.d50librarian.co.uk/

@deauvillevrienden7 жыл бұрын
Yep, but that does not mean it's legal to share them. It's still piracy and it will not encourage companies to release any new banks so the sources will dry up. That's not what we want is'nt it ????
@looneyburgmusic7 жыл бұрын
I don't think sysex files are covered by Copyright law... Since anyone who owns a D-50 could independently create the exact same patch settings, there is no real way to claim a sysex file is an "original" work.

Does the joystick on the D50 work like the vector switch on the Wavestation?
@DavRBailey7 жыл бұрын
@Cueboyd - Forgive me if this isn't what you're looking for, I don't have a Wavestation. The regular pitch bender on the left does the typical side-to-side pitch bending, and pressing "up" adds vibrato or LFO or whatever is programmed in the patch. A second (non spring-loaded) data-entry joystick on the front panel allows for changing values when you're editing a patch parameter. Also, the D-50 uses four "partials" in each sound. (Or any combo of the four as you wish.) Two grouped together as the "Lower Tone" and two for the "Upper Tone". This data entry joystick allows you to adjust the balance of those four partials in real time by moving to the four corners of the joystick travel. One final trick is that when you have two parameters side-by-side that play off each other (such as frequency cutoff value and resonance value,) this joystick will let you edit them simultaneously. Up and down for one of the values and left and right for the second value. Pretty nifty if you're into programming. For the regular "player of patches" who doesn't edit much, this joystick won't mean much. Hoe any of this helps! :-)
@oriomenoni76514 жыл бұрын
No, because it’s no wavestation

the fake filter really isn't cold sounding at all. you'd think it would be since its early digital virtual analog synthesis with a basic primitive algorithm, but it really does sound quite fuzzy and warm. i think the analog style synth parts are done with phase distortion, similar to the casio CZ synths. tends to give it a kinda rubbery throaty sound
