I love the FA-08. Watching this was nice Daniel. You do great demos. One thing I can’t stand, layering piano with strings! It’s like a big lump of moldy cheese on stale bread, When I see gigging keyboard players using those patches I want to jump onstage in a clown suit. But I will admit the FA at least makes it sound almost barely tolerable. Otherwise I think the FA is a very classy joint! I had one 4 years ago and sold it but I just ordered another. I missed it. I think Roland missed a beat by not offering a more full featured sampling option as an upgrade

As the owner of a Jupiter-50, I am very conflicted after watching this video. I love the 76-key synth action keyboard on the J-50. I fear that the FA06 has a mediocre keybed such as those found on the MOX6 and Krome 51. And I don't like mushy 88-key weighted action boards either. But the J-50 lacks 16-part capability, a large color screen, and the editing knobs such as those found on the FA06.

I was about to buy a Jupiter 50 when I saw this :) You have a very nice channel...great playing and lots of instruments
@david-galindo-93610 жыл бұрын
Michael, I'm in the exact same position as you. I've been using the Jupiter-50 since December 2012, love the action on the keyboard but would benefit from the FA-06 features like 16-part capability, onboard sequencer and sampler and improved portability. I'm considering buying the FA-06 and using it side-by-side the Jupiter-50 but still not sure. What did you end up deciding?
@djfirestormx10 жыл бұрын
David Galindo Im in the same boat. I just had my Jupiter 50 since September, and now I see the demo and clearly some of the guitar sounds (especially) and some other stuff seems to be a huge upgrade. Plus it looks hella easier to use in a live scenario even though it is a "workstation". The store I got it from says I will just lose $100 on my JP-50, (considering I got it for $1400 new on a deal). I am on the edge as running split mode a 61 key is too small unless your just using lower for bass, and the 88 is getting to the pain in the ass to move between my place and where we practice with the band. Darn you Roland, we need a FA-07 (assuming a 76 key would be dubbed that)

There is a bug in FA series and not resolved. In STUDIO SET mode, I have 16 track (Part). An Expression pedal is used to adjust the volume of the selected part and working good. When I was playing in Part 1, I dim the volume with the EXP. Pedal and without releasing the key notes, I change the Part from Part 1 to Part 2, and suddenly the volume of Part 1 turned to its original value. This is a big problem in live and no solution found in any forum. All user having problem is looking for a firmware update. Thanks Roland

This Keyboard looks great and I am seeking a Workstation purchase. I saw the video but I have Questions 1) If I used stored samples on my SD card on a song session, will the samples I used disappeared if I remove it from the key board or are the samples recorded and saved on the track without need for the sd card data? 2) Whats the max amount of samples that I can load on this unit? How much data can it hold? 3) Can I create synths on this unit by using my own sample library? Can I save my created synths and pull them up when I want? 4) Could I pitch an wav file from my SD card across the kets individually? For instance: If I had a one shot harp, could it pitch across the keys? And If so, Could I save that Sample as well as my settings then rename it and pull it up later without the need of the original sample on my sd card? Any help Would be great before I make my Pre Order purchase. If you know of another keyboard that can do what Ive asked above, what keyboard would that be?

Funny there's always someone coming on to these videos who uses SOFTsynths trying to convince us that we can do just as good as hardware using SOFTsynths. Listen ... I use to be broke without a job for many years I would always go for software but for years I had this frustrating issue that my sounds were not good enough or that my beats always had something missing so one day after getting a part time job I took a dive and purchased the Yamaha motif rack ... The sounds on that thing blew me out of my chair into the back of my studio .till this day I haven't gone back to software apart from sequencing .. that's it... And I had been using softsynth for over ten years ...
@jonesgerard9 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I looked into VSti but too complicated, plugin from here and something else from someplace else all stitched together. I want it all in one place with a keyboard attached. One day it will get there but not today. Motif sounds are pure bliss. Plugins are warm piss.
@the803869 жыл бұрын
JedEye MaStar Although I find myself relying a lot on soft synths these days I would never deem workstations as unnecessary or 'thing of the past' as some people these days do. Especially younger generation. Softwares are not a substitute of a proper instrument. I think a big factor of an instrument is to give the feeling of owning something tangible that can be held. That is what keeps the inspiration alive. Soft synths lack that even though many of them these days sound great.
@richardmasterson29297 жыл бұрын
a VST can do everything a digital (or "analog modeling") hardware synth can. it's all 1's and 0's. the only reason you'd want a digital hardware synth over a VST is for the physical knobs the only area where hardware synths can beat softsynths is true analog
@instrumentalistjade83677 жыл бұрын
RichardMasterson but all keyboard players imtalking about famous bands and artist, i think they always use a hardware synth keyboards. On stage concert or shows. Because its reliable. Soft synths are great in a studio. Period

I am considering adding an 88 key keyboard to my setup. Looking at this and the Kronos but attracted to this more due to the price. I was disappointed that Kronos no longer has piano-roll editor that is currently in my Korg M3. I hope Roland doesn't leave out the piano roll. I have Logic Pro X but i find the M3's piano roll and advanced sequencing features to be a big help when I don't want to drag my computer along. Roland - I am assuming you don't have it right now but please add it if you can....along with tr 808 style loop sequencing if you can :) I like the pattern recording in my Motif XS but it lacks grid and piano roll that would have made it complete...Thanks!

Based on what I've heard(I owned a MOX,but never a Roland)...but from everything I've ever heard from YT videos from both companies,it is my opinion,that synths are Roland's specialty,whereas Yamaha's are not....but in terms of acoustic sounds,I think it's fair to say that Roland's Supernatural tones are at the very least,equal...to that of Yamaha's. As far as piano sounds go,people will argue tooth & nail,over which acoustic pianos are more authentic,so it's a matter of taste,but I like both Yamaha's & Roland's pianos...as I am not that fanatical about pianos.

Is it possible to use sampled sounds on the keys in stead of the pads?
@tkarlmann10 жыл бұрын
I think this FA-08 seems like a great keyboard with one significant limitation: It seems to have no quickly-selectable "Favorites" settings. As you can see in this video, every time a sound is changed, the camera cuts away. What a shame that a simple firmware fix is not made to use the 16 Pads to do this!!!!!!!!
@looneyburgmusic10 жыл бұрын
Who needs a "favorites" if you can simply overwrite the internal stock sounds with what you use the most in order. That is what I have always done. All my most used patches are in Bank A, when I still played live I would place them in order as needed, all it took was a tap of a pedal to change to the next patch.

been looking for alternatives to the Roland Prelude which i first saw and immediately fell in love with. The first Roland Synth i had used (and it only lasted 4 months. maybe a refurbished or reconditioned one) was a Roland Juno-D. actually, not mine but our band leader bought it. I am the kind of keyboardist who loves creativity. my own keyboard is an old Yamaha PSR-530 and for 14 years experience i have develoopeed my playing style which uses split layers/dal. so i can perform using 2 sounds at once..the left plays another role and the right plays another. one thing i love about the Juno-D (and i am sure there are a lot of keyboards like this) is the piano-like thick keys (is that called hammer action?)..so with that being said i want to ask if this PA-06 has thick keys? or the normal keyboard keys?

I have a korg kronos. The sounds are a bit to perfect. The sequencer is terrible. It is a beast, but requires a lot of training. This Roland keyboard looks a lot more user friendly and productive.
@gjc8207110 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound like the Kronos that I own; not at all. The sounds are just awesome. (I don't know how something can sound "too perfect") The sequencer & FX processors are VERY similar (almost identical) to that of the Trinity & Triton. (If you can use one, you can easily use the others) The sequencer, DAW, & FX processors are powerful & extremely simple to use. (far easier than the Kurzweil PC3K, Alesis Fusion, or Yamaha Motif series(which I also own) The Kronos is more "complex" than "complicated". I can see how the Kornos might intimidate some people, (especially first time synth owners/users) but that's simply because it has so many features & different engines. Granted the MOD-7 engines IS definitely pretty hard to program, (I admit I can't figure it out, & gave up trying) but why bother? There are 1000's of free & 3rd party patches/programs online, in addition to the 1000's that come installed on the Kronos. With so many sounds available to choose form, you don't even really NEED to program your own. The other synth engines are either sample based, or analog modeling engines. Anyone who can program a ROMpler, an analog, or an analog modeling synth, should have no trouble at all programming the Kronos. The Roland FA just has many of the Integra 7's sounds, which are the exact same sounds on the 15+ year old XV5080 & SRX/SR-JV expansion boards. Keeping the same sequencer or successive keyboards isn't bad. It's a good idea actually. But doing that with sounds is not too good. Roland hasn't come up with any new sounds in well over a decade. They're taking the exact same sounds & just putting them in different keyboards. That is called "stagnation". The XV5080, Fantom, Integra, & FA all sound the SAME. Korg is an innovator, Roland & Yamaha are followers. (& can't even follow well)
@the803869 жыл бұрын
Reece Pipes what do you mean a bit too perfect? Kronos has all kinds of tone shaping options. You can get everything from hyper real to crusty old early twentieth century tones if you know how to work it. I used Kronos for almost 2 years along side my PC3LE and softwares. Loved every bit of it.
@chicoandtheman75999 жыл бұрын
zeebazu Right? What can you say to someone, who's biggest complaint about a synthesizer is that it's "too perfect". LOL. What does that even mean?? I LOVE my Kronos X 88 & my Kurzweil PC3K6. Very different synths, but equally great in their own ways. BTW, you said you've used Kronos for 2 years & "loved" every bit of it. Did you get rid of your Kronos? If not, have you updated your Kronos to OS 3.02?
@pianoman424219 жыл бұрын
I mean it's that good and perfect, it don't really sound authentic. I noticed all of the pianos are really quite to which is a pain when you go from a piano preset to a synth which then near enough blows your ear drums. The kronos also takes to much time to do anything simple.
@the803869 жыл бұрын
Gerry No it malfunctioned from falls ceiling rain leak. An EE engineer friend of mine bought it for cheap and uses it now after fixing. If I really need it, I can easily go to his place in just 5 minutes walk. Malfunction wasn't the main reason though. I am finding myself doing much more studio work for clients than live. Workstations are great for flow and performance but given enough preparation time, new soft synths can sound astounding especially for the commercial work I do now. So I started leaning towards VSTs and my Kronos kept sitting. The PC3LE stays mostly as Midi controller and a gig board that I won't be very sad if damaged or stolen. I still love both of them a lot and would recommend them to anybody with a workstation board requirement in a split second.

I know you can't really compare the two, but the Roland felt like a plastic toy compared to the Kronos, which is more expensive but damn well worth the money.

+king shaman Even though the FA-06 is around 1/3 of the price of a Kronos 61, it absolutely doesn't feel like a "plastic toy" in comparison. Sound-wise, you'd be hard pressed to say that one worth $2000 more.

Markus Arike Do you own a Kronos?
@marike11008 жыл бұрын
king shaman I used to own the original Kronos 61, but it developed a hard drive issues so I had it serviced and sold it at a loss. Talk to anyone who owns or plays the FA-06 or FA-08, they love it. Like most Roland products, build quality is excellent at its price point, it has great sounds, is easy to sequence and the keys on both models feel terrific.

does the kronos have those magical type sounds like the violins and spacey synth things? It seems like some keyboards wouldn't all have that quality and have a more professional sound or something, like orchestral

Sean Florentz check out Luke Edward's demo of Korg Kronos. See if you like it. Thanks.

Will I need to buy an amp if I purchase the Roland AP-06?
@sweetwater3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mankhraw. I couldn’t find an AP-06, so I'm going to assume you meant FA-06. If so, then yes. There are no speakers in the FA-series, so you'd need either headphones or an amp/speaker combination to be able to hear it. -_Daniel_

@@sweetwater Hello Daniel, I've been very blessed by your last comment, and I just wanted to know if I bought the FA-07 would it be the same as the FA-06? -Mankhraw

I agree with the design and features but with a build quality of a workstation like this and at the same time very expensive it is not worth buying I won't sacrifice weight to build quality of the 61 key version it would have been a nice buy if the price range is of that of korg krome

i was disappointed to find that the sustain and release envelopes have zero effect on the super natural sounds like sn piano. I wondered If the option is buried somewhere in the millions of unnecessary parameters you never use?
@ArmandoFerrerMusic3 жыл бұрын
There is a midi parameter (""sustain"" or ""decay"" or something like that, i don't remember) which adds some sustain to the notes in the sn piano. You can increase that parameter and you will have some sustain on it

anybody know of a keyboard with the spacey synths of the korg triton? I'm not too experienced I'm just trying to learn
@floridaessene4 жыл бұрын
Best is to pickup a used Ttiron LE 61 for around 600. There is NO keyboard sounding as good for spacey synths as the Triton series.

Bflatest if I had a roadie to carry my stuff I'd bring my M3 to every gig. I have both an M3 and FA-06 and wouldn't part with either. The FA 06 is a much better keyboard for gigging, the M3 more conducive to writing music! Both are beasts!
