I was in my studio (bedroom-LOL) about to pull my hair out trying to figure this stuff out. Took a break to feed all my Wiener dogs and decided to check out KZbin and there you were answering all my questions. You have no idea how much I appreciate you and your expertise and ability to cover these subjects in such an easy to understand manner. Thank you.

Thanks for this! I'm about to upgrade from the FA08 to the Fantom 08 (which shares the zen-core engine with the flagship Fantom) and was a little worried about this. Iade a loto of leads using SN on my FA and it's good to know I'll be able to recreate them

Its great to know, half the super natural synth tones made it over.... the thing i missed most however from my jupiter 80 where the preprogrammed live sets.. took some time to addapt.. the zen core engine is great, could have been even better with the ABM extension of the jupiter X... love your demo’s, keep them commin.

So the Zencore sounds are better than the Super Natural Sounds from the Integra 7, and Jupiter 80? So what happens if you layer something like this Fantom with the Integra 7? Or do we need to?

08:09 It's not really fair to compare the zencore with the SNS synth engine , The sns is imho weakth worst engineRoland ever created , horrible aliasing on the osc's , no mod matrix , no osc sync etc.. You should compare the zencore with the PCM synth engine ( which is also on the integra , fa series , jv and xv series) Because that 'sexactly what the zencore engine is , it's structure is 90% the same as the pcm engine , The FA, xv and integra has the exact same deep modulation matrix control 1-2-3-4.( minus the added destinationsfound on zen ) The added benefits of the zencore engine are -better VA filters ( I have a suspicion these are the same filters as found in the SNS engine ,which sound pretty damn good ) -True va osc's , osc sync (pcm only ) , two types of cross modulation etc and ringmod / -Adjustable curves on the step LFO( integra only has linear or no interpolation between steps) What it doesn't give you is the TWO booster structures ( which places a hard clipper either pre or in between filters ) and the 5 ringmod structures . This means that the fantom ( or any other zencore synth ) will never let you replicate the xv5080 sounds which has these ringmod or booster structures , but despite all this Roland still advertises zencore as a complete replacement ( there is even an XV5080 mode on the jup x-xm ) ...iow ...marketing talk .

Thank you for the informative video . I had a play of the Fantom at the music shop yesterday . Instead of using DAW mode because I do not have a MAC .I would like to investigate how to record the different scenes and clips to different tracks of a mixer or audio interface using the multiple outputs. Then into the DAW .Build the project on the Fantom then export to the interface , mixer .Would this be difficult ?
@ZTAudio
@ZTAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Mark QUAVERTUNE it’ll be easier than you think. You don’t even need the mixer. The Fantom puts out 16 STEREO tracks over USB.

@@ZTAudio Thank you .My only concern is would it work as well with a windows PC in DAW mode as it does with MAC .I recently installed the ZenBeats .I wonder if the app will be designed for Roland hardware ?
@ZTAudio
@ZTAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Mark QUAVERTUNE don’t get hung up on the term “DAW Mode”. Presently that really only has to do with tight-integration of controls between Logic Pro and the Fantom. I use my Fantom w/a Windows laptop and Ableton Live ... works great.

I have a Jupiter 80 so I am wondering if there is a method in designing a superNATURAL synth sound and convert it to Zen-core format to play. Perhaps even sampling the sound itself in the Fantom and leaving it as a SN sample which can sound the same? What do you think?
@ZTAudio
@ZTAudio 4 жыл бұрын
If you copied the parameters of that SNS sound on the Fantom , you'd have the same sound.

@@ZTAudio Is there a specific format to export it in the make sure I can import the sound to my Fantom?
@ZTAudio
@ZTAudio 4 жыл бұрын
SubliminalX7 I said nothing of exporting. You’re going to have to do all the setting by hand on the Fantom, setting each parameter to be the same as that sound on the Jupiter 80.

I’ve been on the fence between getting the Fantom or Jupiter X. Based on my research, it seems like the Fantom can do all the Jupiter X sounds and more. Is that correct?
@ZTAudio
@ZTAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. The Fantom does quite a bit MORE in some respects, like the ability to load 15+ EXZ expansion packs ... the Jupiter can only load 2. The Jupiter has the Jupiter-8, Juno-106, JX-8P and SH-101 engines though ... those are not available on the Fantom at this time. They may be added later, but it's not certain. The Fantom certainly is a more complete "music production machine" though.

Any idea how to record the supernatural variations into the sequencer so i can record a real permormance eg adding "fall" and "growl" into the mute trumpet, without having those settings permanently on or off? I dont want "fall" on every trumpet note and id like to record it too! Atb and thanks for the great work.

I think this is, in fact, possible. Midi control changes on 80 and 81 switch between different SN articulations. Assigning S1 and S2 to those, and then recording to the sequencer while activating them and switching between them, seems to work. Though in haste I couldn’t find where the sequencer actually records that midi data (rather than whether it does).

Check out MR TUNA on youtube. He uses a separate controller to sequence the Jupiter 80 which as controls and parameters to create good fx. I don't know for sure if it does exactly what you want but it is worth a try

I heard that SuperNatural sounds are not sampled-based and therefore have no cutoff between notes. Cutoff between notes really annoys me especially with orchestral sounds. Are the SuperNatural sounds the only sounds in the Fantom that have this feature? If so, that would be disappointing as there is only a handful of SN sounds. Thanks!
