Great Video! Your video showed just the kind of thing I would like to do. I have a HPD 20 and Superior Drummer 3. I'm using both with Digital Performer. What I think would be very helpful for a lot of us would be how you set all this up. What adjustments you needed to make in the HPD 20 and Superior Drummer. I have not been able to locate information on how to do this. I think such a video would be of great help for many of us who are attempting to bring together these incredible pieces of technology.

Thanks all for the kind comments. Superior Drummer 3 and the Handsonic are working extremely well together. Mapping the right trigger notes is a little boring maybe. But once its done, its there forever. Take your time und will get there in 10 minutes. Playing and tweaking the trigger parameters also helps. Have fun anyone😀

Since the Handsonic was designed for percussion players, it’s recommended to play with your hands and fingers. It’s playing surfaces are a bit small for playing with sticks.

Were you ever able to experiment with any kind of hi-hat that is independent from the handsonic? After midi mapping the handsonic, on the software .. 2. did you have a lot of work adjusting triggering and velocitiy,,and all the rest...in order to having it sound and feel like you wanted to? Tuning MIDI is boring.... lol thanks for the video Drums sound pretty good! cheers from Portugal

Nice one ! You should post more like these. Question for you, I have Roland Spd 30, and I am wondering to trade it for Hand sonic or a mid range electronic drum kit. Apart from space consumption, could you please compare your play experience between Handsonic vs the big Electronic Drum Kit ?
@electronicdrummer63995 жыл бұрын
It’s a very different feel. But I personally like it a lot. People like it too because it looks interesting. I could have sold mine already a couple of times 😊 I like playing with sticks alot. And I also have a big Roland E-kit. But for those small gigs the Handsonic works just great. The percussion sounds are just amazing. I didn‘t like the internal drum sounds too much. Thats why I use Superior drummer on my mac.

Great stuff! I'm thinking of going digital myself (space constraints and ear trouble) , also with a similar minimalistic setup like the hpd-20 OR the spd-30. Do you have experience with the spd-30? I'm afraid if I go for the handsonic, I will miss the expressive feel of playing with sticks... On the other hand, maybe the handsonic has more possibilities in terms of playing style. I'd love to hear your opinion! Thanks!
@electronicdrummer63995 жыл бұрын
Playing with fingers and hands actually feels more natural and expressive than you might think. Thats also what drummers do all day long when there‘s no drum set around 😊 So I suggest to try both. Playing with sticks is much louder. Playing with fingers means, you have to mimic ghostnotes with your fingers and playing style. Thats because your fingers wom‘t have any rebound. You actually play that thing like a cajon.

Yeah, all the sounds in the Handsonic are decent except for the average drum set sounds, especially the snare drums. They're REALLY machine gunny. I don't know why everything else is pretty good and mostly the snares are terrible !!!!! Any fast hits on the snare and you wanna throw the thing out a window !!! If yer gonna play out live or even MAYBE practice with a band, you'll have to hook up to any outside sounds for the snares especially. I'm really surprised how awful they are. Even tuning them or muffling them doesn't do enough. They're almost toy drums, honestly !!! One hit doesn't sound too bad, but any 2 handed roll, even slow ones and the machine gunning is just pitiful. :-( Other then that, it's good for different projects or bongo gigs for sure ! Honestly, a lot could be way better inside with the machine gunning on a lot of the sounds, but it's still nice to have on the road instead of nothing ! :-)

Hi Brian, you can either adjust the midi out note numbers on the Handsonic itself or just use the midi learn function within SD3 for each single drum articulation. The pad layout I use might be totally different for your playing stile. But maybe I will put my Handsonic program and also the SD3 drumset I‘ve made for this on dropbox. But also keep in mind, that it might sound a little different from KZbin because it has some funny KZbin compression going on here. 😊
