His circular breathing technique is just stunning. I'm outta breath just listening to those solos.

My name is Marty. I saw Rahsaan once in a club in Lexington Kentucky. He got very upset that someone yelled “play this song, Roland.” He threw all of his saxophones off and said “mf, my name isn’t Roland it’s Rahsaan.”

Rahsaan and Tete together-what more could we ask for?! Both magnificent, both under-rated giants, and both blind…hmmm. Tete is a great jazz pianist, Rahsaan is a genius. Tommy Potter and Kenny Clarke are also stellar here. Thank you! Wish there were such concerts to go to these days…

Unbelievable! These men are on fire! The holy spirit is speaking through them. "Kirk in Copenhagen" has long been one of my favorite albums of all time, and this version of "Cabin in the Sky" is just as phenomenal as the one on that record. And Tete Montoliu is just as fantastic! Plus seeing the empathy between Kenny Clarke and Kirk is fantastic. And great to see Tommy Potter, veteran of Charlie Parker and others, thriving in '64.

Thanks for this as well as all the other cool clips you've posted. Rahsaan is still undeservedly obscure considering his mastery of all forms of jazz and an uncanny instrumental facility. Got to chat with Rahsaan a few times in the early 70s when he would play the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. A friend and I had the privilege of ferrying he and Edith to LAX when their ride didn't show after the last set. The man was a force of nature and made a lasting impression; Rahsaan still shows up in my dreams occasionally to this day.

That's the longest freaking saxophone I've ever seen!! I'd be out of breath just picking it up! What a great line up of musicians. Two blind musicians that could "see" better than anyone. Tete's solo on piano was first rate, and Roland Kirk (quoting some Yardbird), was brilliant than ever! He was such an innovator. His 'circular breathing' is beyond belief. And to think that many people attribute that technique to Kenny G, (who was able to hold a note for 40 minutes or so), when Roland played a complete phenomenal improvised solo while circular breathing! PURE GENIUS!!!
