I have the Roland RD 800 and it's such a fantastic keyboard. I love the ivory/ebony feel on the keys.

ED, I Like the Yamaha CP4 but without question, you provided the BEST DEMO I have seen on you tube. This was an actual demo. Nothing like any other. I will be keeping my eye out for your demos in the future. Thanks a lot

2:22 - Sympathetic resonance. Pioneered in the digital world by General Music in the '90s on their 'Real Piano' series and present now on the vast majority of digital pianos. The RD sounds great though!

I learned on an old acoustic piano as a child, and digital pianos have always made me nervous (all those buttons). Recently I started using one of these and I'm very impressed, but still mystified by all those buttons. This is the best tutorial I have found anywhere. Thanks for all the great tips, I feel so much more confident now!
@kimhansen63846 жыл бұрын
Don´t spend your life being nervous - read the manual, try things out. The keyboard will not save your alterations before you tell it to do it.

This is a fantastic instrument, and I love the key actions on Roland keyboards, but I'm debating between one of these and a Nord Piano 2 HA88. I want a nice keyboard to bring with me to college. My big issue is that the Nord, while it has inferior key action, has (In my opinion of course) the best sample library of almost anyone, and all their samples are free. Either way, I'm sure I'll end up with a fantastic instrument. The choice is tough.
@NStuffMusic10 жыл бұрын
I agree about the tough choice, and that you won't be disappointed either way. Personally I think the RD800 with it's natural wooden key, ivory feel, and graded hammer action, along with it's modeled piano sound is the ticket. Everything else is icing on the cake! There's also the price difference between the two to consider. Good luck! Give us a call if you have any other questions. - Tony

I've been looking at stage pianos for a while, and I'm close at buying one myself. In my opinion, unless you don't use it for live performance, the Roland RD-800 is worth much more than the Nord Piano 2 HA88. Nord Stage HA88 would be a tough opponent for the RD-800 though. Since Nord Piano 2 and the RD-800 cost approx the same, I would recommend the RD-800 ;)

I demoed this and the 700NX side-by-side. Liked the 700NX better, both in terms of sound and feel. Even when I chose the 700NX patch on the 800, it didn't sound as good as on the 700NX (strictly talking about acoustic piano sound here). The build quality of the 700NX also felt more solid/expensive.
@NStuffMusic10 жыл бұрын
There's a psychological connection between the feel and the sound. The 700's key bed is much more resistant feeling than the 800. If you feel that the action is light or in your mind less solid/cheaper, the tone will sound to you thinner/lighter even though they may be identical. Personally, I like the 800 over the 700, however, it is just a matter of personal preference.
@c.s.christopher580110 жыл бұрын
N Stuff Music It's an interesting theory and there might even be some truth to it. But I was using my own professional studio monitoring headphones and I'm fairly confident the sound was not the same. It wasn't really that the 800 sounded lighter/thinner. It was just slightly more boxy/compressed. 700 was more lively/vibrant. Could be differences in the internal sound engine I suppose. But yea, the difference was small and both are solid stage pianos.

so whats the difference with the rd 800 and the yamaha cp4
@NStuffMusic9 жыл бұрын
TheMidnightrunnerman These 2 items are in direct competition with each other. Both have a natural wooden key with graded hammer action and real ivory feel. Lots of sounds and variations and easy/intuitive operations on both as well. The Roland has 4 zones whereas the Yamaha has 3. The feel and overall piano sounds differ slightly, but I think at this point it's a matter of personal preference. For what it's worth, we do sell an equal amount of each model.Check them out when you have the time. Neither RD800 or CP4 will disappoint. - Tony

+TheMidnightrunnerman big deal for me is escapement, not big LCD or what, I still love Yamaha piano sound but, I turn to RD800 with ( some one said it ) stupid reason , it escapement, anyway i had MOXF with CP1 sound on top

@NStuffMusic9 жыл бұрын
Eldad Kira I really doubt that they're compatible. There are more sounds and variations of sounds and effects. But I can't answer definitively. Until I have access to both models and can run that experiment, I would refer to a Roland Product Specialist.. Hope it works for your sake! -Tony

Will the artificial noise of the damp (to simulate as if it pressed on an acoustic piano) be recorded if I record my playing?
@nathanp.barclay15186 жыл бұрын
Yes, any functions you've used for recording will play back in the recording. i.e. tremolo effects, modulation effects, tone color, etc.

What to choose... Roland FP-7 (secondhand), Roland FP-80 (new), or Roland RD-800 (new)?? I'm doing research all week and I don't know it anymore.. Please some help :)

The rd 800 with the ivory wooden key action. Is your best bet. It feels the most like an acoustic! If I had the money I'd go buy one tomorrow! Would think twice. Many keyboards sound amazing few feel amazing. For ME this is the closes feeling board to a acoustic. Also the Kawai mp11. Rd 800 is my favorite tho.

Ed Diaz considering the piano sound, I'm in doubt, which keyboard buy: Roland RD-800, Kurzweil Artis, Nord Stage 2 HA88, Yamaha Motif xf8, korg kronos 88 or Yamaha moxf8. Could you help me, decide which? What keyboard has the best piano sound in your choice?
@NStuffMusic10 жыл бұрын
Personally, I really like the new Kronos 88, followed by the Motif, Nord Stage, and RD800. All of them have great piano sounds but are slightly different feeling. It's a matter of personal opinion. You really need to try them out. Also, keep in mind that some are workstations and some are stage pianos at varying price points. Affordability, playability, and portability all need to be considered. If you have specific questions, don't hesitate to give us a call. - Tony

@nathanp.barclay15186 жыл бұрын
I"ve played other digital pianos and there are other digital pianos that have the resonance noise. So, yeah, he's wrong about other digital pianos not having it.

Ed does a great job, looks like a great product, but there is something unwholesome about all this digital gadgetry that I can't quite put my finger on. I think it's a keyboardist vs. pianist thing, or maybe I just have gear choice anxiety and that aint healthy for a creative musician. Well, I'm done philosophizing....
