I remember when Roscoe, Guthrie and Ledbelly debuted this on "Woodie Guthrie's Children's Hour" on the BBC back in 1944. It brought a tear to my eye then, and it still does.

Thanks for uploading this. My great grandma loved this song. She got pretty bad Alzheimer's, and it was horrible seeing her forget everyone and be unable to do the things she wanted to do. But when we played this tune, she sung along. After she died, we played this song in her honor and had the embalmer fill her up with Pepperidge Farm stuffing. Everyone in the family, from Mom to grandpa to Little Jimmy, ate the stuffing out of her orifices. She was probably up there smiling down as this happened.

It's rumored that Reyna's mother roomed with Roland Roscoe around the Thanksgiving immediately before this song was released. His mother died of a massive heart attack that thanksgiving. Roscoe was never the same.
