A tutorial for Boards of Canada's Kaini Industries performed solely on the Roland S-1. The S-1 suprises me everyday with how good it sounds and how quickly you can go from init patch to jamming out for an hour. I've been listening to a lot of Boards of Canada recently so I wanted to recreate Kaini Industries as best as I could --- I think it sounds quite nice! Let me know if you make any improvements!
Sorry for the delay on releasing more videos! I've been building up a to a schedule and will be trying to make either weekly or bi-weekly videos from here on out.
Thanks for watching!

What tutorial should I do next? - AFX's I'm self employed - Squarepusher's Theme from Ernest Borgine - advanced sequencing techniques - easy ways to jam with little or no music experience - hidden S-1 features ...or something else? Upcoming video on my first day with the OP-1 Field

Advanced sequencing techniques or easy way to jam woulds be great! Also I think you will find an audience if you do kind of "song from scratch" videos with your creations Keep the good job!!

Songs are hands on and nice to follow along to. Any S1 content really :) Are you aware of any way to preserve sound settings from one pattern to another in a live performance? I guess using global reverb/delay = on, and then applying manual mode on the next pattern in the sequence (after tweaking the prior pattern) would ensure that the tone/sound would be applied to the beginning of the next. "Global Sound Setting" or "Shared Sound Setting" between patterns does not seem to be an option.

@ shift + hold applies current knob positions to your pattern, in conjuction with global/reverb delay and if you time it out really well, you can switch patterns and copy over the previous patterns tone. To be honest, it's not the easiest thing to do.

@@harryhughesHD thank you! I will try, I tried once before and didn't think it was close enough...but maybe it is time to revisit!

This is brilliant! And I totally agree with "The S-1 suprises me everyday with how good it sounds..." - I love mine (and I own an SH-101). I've especially enjoyed your "roygbiv " and "everything in its right place" videos.

It's really amazing what you can do with this Roland s1. I'm a beginner thanks to your videos, I'm learning a lot but I don't always understand everything. And to think that a lot of people say it's easy to use is not true. I want so much to find the sound I have in mind or that I want to make, but it's still difficult 😞 A lot of people buy it because the price is right, but they don't know how to use it properly. How long did it take you to get the hang of it? Are you a musician? You're very talented and I hope you'll continue to give us tutorials.

Thank you! I am planning a series of really basic jam/sound design videos, but they're taking me a while to complete. I'll make sure to include lots of subtitles in that for everything I am doing. I bought my S-1 just under a year and a half ago, and I wouldn't say I "mastered" it until 6+ months of using it consistently. You're right, there are a lot of hidden functions and menu diving which make it a bit trickier to use. I just started learning music about 2 years ago, before then I had never used an instrument aside from a recorder when I was 10. I will keep the tutorials coming! Thanks again!

Just spend time exploring and don't look for results for a while. Set a goal to explore a specific function in focus for a day each week or something.

Reverb definitely needed on this track - BTW the BPM of the song is ~152. You can clock it at 76 but you'll have to use 8th notes instead of quarter notes. It's a fast melody. Thanks for sharing!

Great catch! I totally meant to bring that up in the video and I must have deleted it from my notes! My initial performance I actually switched midway from 8th to quarter, but ended up liking the slowed down version a bit more. Thanks for watching and catching that!

thank you! and I don't think it is possible to automatically go to the next page of steps when playing, that would be a great and simple addition though
