Hi Ranzee - great stuff - I purchased my System8 just last week, so the JX-3P comes as an unexpected bonus :-) It is typical tho, I've just completed a demo video of what v1.20 can do and then they go and surprise us with another update this soon.... all we need now is an update to the JD-XA and I'll be a very happy synth-head ! Nice post, thanks! I'm 99% sure the prefixes are basic descriptions of the patch, e.g. PD = pad, BS = bass, BR = brass, LD = lead. No idea what "SQ", "SY", and "KY" represent, however :)

I thought I was interested in buying a Synth, but I'm not hearing much that makes me want to pull out the VISA just yet. My old ancient Yamaha MOX8 has many of the same sounds, the only difference is they are all unadjustable presets, (the only variables are effects like reverb, chorus, and EQ). Having a built-in Sequencer would be nice, but I need to hear more convincing sounds making it a worthwhile purchase.

You either want that Roland sound or you don't and if you didn't grow up in the 80s then probably not. The Yamaha doesn't sound much like this synth.

I have both. Sound exactly the same, so much so I put the OG JX in storage and tell people I used it in a track I play rather than saying I really used the Plug-Out. This video sounds like a JX out of the box brand new back in the day. Every JX you have heard is probably older ones that have aged and thus changed the character of the sound. That can be dialed in to your own liking on the System-8, using the Condition parameter. It’s really a no-brainer which one is better

Does the System-8 only feature presets of the JX-3P or is it the same architecture allowing you to create your own JX-3P sounds so to speak?

It's a JX-3P emulator (modelled virtual analog). So you can create your own sounds and save them as patches :)

Hi DEADLINE. Check out the instructions on the page where you download the firmware - it mentions doing a factory reset. Have you tried all that?
