Picked one up and I’m in love . I go between loving the Jupiter plugout and the Juno. I need to update to get the JX3P. The System 8 engine is also great . Thanks for a great demo , it truly helped me in my research

It sounds great and so much more practical than a real Jupiter 8.

My Jupiter 8 has been very practical. I mortgaged my house, got the $35,000.00 I needed and bought it. People thought I was practically insane. This put a strain on my life, which, in turn, led to a divorce and the repossession of my car. I was practically bankrupt. Next, I found a practical room near my job which had an old ironing board onto which I could place the Jupiter 8. So practical! I had to get a second job to come up with the money I needed to service the Jupiter, which cost practically as much as a new modern polysynth. So many things about my life have changed, and now I have practically no friends - but I have the Jupiter 8 (or... I will have it, as soon as I can afford to go pick it up from the shop where it's being tuned and serviced, after they're able to somehow find a capacitor or whatever practically impossible to find part it is they need.) I listened to a System 8, and thought it sounded practically identical, but there's just something about KNOWING you paid the $30,000.00+ for the REAL THING which, when it's working right, has that special magic. You know that magic, right? I mean, you can HEAR it, right? I can. Definitely. I think. Well, not really, but I still KNOW it's there, and just knowing that... has been everything for me. Yes, the Jupiter 8 was right for me, and I know it will be for you too! Plus there are the little things... like, it even has a SMELL. Yes, an actual SMELL... it's hard to describe, but it's a faint, sort of musty, burnt plastic smell that just oozes magic. I also know that owning a real Jupiter 8, proves, somehow, that I am better than people who have digital versions, plus, it proves that I'm really committed, like, so committed that I will plunder my well being for the sake of a 1980's Japanese synthesizer, that mostly still works - most of the time - when it's not in the shop. So what if I eat ramen 3x a day and have lost everything? I'm one of a chosen few... and I know you're all so, so jealous.

I swear I believe that so much of which synth channels we follow here is based on compatibility of preset tastes. I listen to one synth channel demo a new hardware (or, in this case, plugout) synth, and decide I don't like it, then watch a review on a different channel and come away thinking EVERY SINGLE PRESET on the unit sounds great, and I have to have it. So much of it is down to whether the person doing the demo likes the same presets you do. There are a couple of channels that I purposely avoid, because I know the presenter is going to choose presets which (and I'm only half joking here) are going to make me angry. LOL, as in "OMG... why does he keep playing nothing but these &#%$@% watery sounding pads???!??!" or "OMG... WTF? Does he know there are sounds other than buzz saw based presets???"

@LesterH25

Orod5694 They are custom sounds I would say and are very good. I own the S8 it is very easy to programme and create pads. Tweakers paradise.

lester hardcastle very nice. I've had trouble programming moving ethereal pads on my s8 like the ones you demonstrated. Any advice?
@LesterH25
@LesterH25 7 жыл бұрын
Orod5694 Hi. Your pads are beautiful. In performance mode you can layer pads and use the effects to add atmosphere. Also detuning and also use the lfo on a slow trigger and time delay. Also play with the octaves of the oscillators and volumes. keep experimenting. You have the talent my friend.

Why more choices? Most vintage synths did not have much more than 8 voices. No big deal for me.
@robertfischer1895
@robertfischer1895 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Synths in 1982 may not have had more voices or aftertouch, but that was almost 40 years ago. I'd pay double if they would increase polyphony to at least 16, add an octave, add aftertouch, then put it in an all-metal chassis with an internal power supply and better aesthetics. It turns out that to many of us, hardware matters in hardware synths.

Atonal Measure What is a JP8a? I made my living in the 80's with a Jupiter 8 and DX7, I never heard of an a version .. not that it didn't exist .. just never heard of it. I also had the Roland MD/8 DBS to Midi box for it. Ran my Jupiter 8 through a Roland SDE1000 digital delay and Roland Dimension C chorus ..... it was huge sounding .. that Scarface movie theme sound you know .. one of the very few sounds I haven't been able to replicate with anything modern. Sold my Jupiter 8 in 1988 for $450.00 ..... about the low average price for one back then ..... and that included the MD/8 and Anvil flight case ..... boy do I regret that now ☹️
