Excellent tutorial and drumming. I was planning on getting the Roland TD 25KV along with Superior 2.0 next month. Using it for traveling, being quiet and mixing music in PT.
@jamesbalestrino26709 жыл бұрын
I just bought the td-25... The dynamics and editing is great....I'm not feeling how it triggers superior and ez drummer...it doesn't capture a lot of the nuances that the new td-25 brain captures
@Pearlpassionstudio9 жыл бұрын
James Balestrino Thanks for the feedback. I'm heading to Sweetwater this weekend and speaking to all the masters on this subject. They have a Gearfest that everyone in the world is there. I was highly recommended the Superior 2.0 as a way to capture individual tracks in PT's. Also, I was to expand the kits pads with another snare and floor tom.
@jamesbalestrino26709 жыл бұрын
I actually bought mine thru Sweetwater , those guys are great...I am a huge superior/too track fan an was real skeptical on how the td-25's brain would match up...but I have to say, it really impressed me..too track samples are ridiculously awesome but there is something about the Roland sound that works for me. The only thing that is kind of a negative is that there is no routing of the audio...meaning it's a 2 channel stereo output and you can't touch up individual outputs like u could do in the midi world with the multichannel output of superior. In any event have a blast at gear fest and let me know how u make out.
@Pearlpassionstudio9 жыл бұрын
James Balestrino Thanks Jim...I'm a huge Sweetwater fan, been going to the Gearfest for about 6 years. AJ Becerra is a friends of mine, sales engineers at this place. Highly recommends this Superior 2.0 and Roland....I did pick up the tutorial for the Superior last month to start learning the process mapping this kit. I did see in this software a mixer, explaining how to map each pad, then work it with Protools, including routing to bus's....I'll go back into that tutorial that I got from Groove 3 and check again. I have to have full control like I do with my acoustic kit or there's a huge problem....Not sure, but pretty sure the MIDI plug goes to a interface, to the computer USB....Open the protools session, bring in the mixer, map it and should route the sends to the Protools inputs...Interesting...I will get back...Later for now.
@Pearlpassionstudio9 жыл бұрын
HI again... I just re watched the Groove 3 tutorial on Superior drum. Show how you take your drums and make individual tracks for each drum. They show examples in about 5 DAWs. But, the tutorial did not show me the edit window, just the mix window with all the sends/Bus/Aux.etc...They did show how to create midi samples in a edit window, quantize to the bpm/scale on a single instrument. Still very confusing, I'll see Sweetwater and get back with you..

That left hand is on point. That's my weak spot. I don't have the speed and control. Nice job! I was considering buying a used td 12. Using EZ drummer and an Alesis trigger IO now. Sounds pretty good, but everyone says Roland has great sounds.
@digitaldrumming4 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, the triggering/playability will be significantly better & easier to set up with any Roland module before going midi out. You can get great results even with a TD-17 actually & also have some nice onboard sounds on it. I've recently made the TD-17 AllStar Sound Edition for drum-tec: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKbQo6Wdh919i6c Doesn't sound like a Toontrack sample library by far, but still some very cool sounds for playing & practicing I think :) Kind regards!

Wow. Big difference. I was wondering if you could answer a question? I have a Roland kit (TD-4KX2). It has a midi output. If I wanted to trigger sounds on my laptop computer, do I just need a Focusrite Saffire (or equivalent) and a decent laptop? I'm anxious to give this a try. Thanks. And great playing BTW.

i love the way you play. how or where can I learn to play them. what do you call this kind of grouvs
@digitaldrumming3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, well a lot of things come together there :) I have been playing the drums for 30 years now, including several years of studying at a music college. It's pretty hard to break it down to one groove "name" or "kind", there's some triplet funk/jazz stuff in it, and also lots of rudimental work basically. Kind regards!
@SomebodyPickaName12 жыл бұрын
Hello, when you do midi learn, you must only do it for "hats tip trig" on the bow of your hi hat and "hats trig" for the edge sounds of your hi hat on the VH-11 (or any dual zone hat controller for that matter). Do not do midi learn for any of the other hat hits, as the CC only controls hats trig and hats tip trig in Superior Drummer (both older and 2.0). However, you will still do midi learn for the HH pedal.
@Joemantoo13 жыл бұрын
@digitaldrumming Unfortunately I'm not familiar with midi at all. What started me off on this crusade was simply the desire to trigger some better sounds than my stock Roland kit. Now that I have started to look in to this more, I realize I could open up other options such as recording. The other application I envision is the ability to jam with a group at low volume. It looks like some of the more advanced interfaces would allow this function and recording like maybe the Focusrite Saffire PRO24

Hey there, those are basically different kinds of triplet stickings: Three strokes, paradiddles (played as triplets), paradiddle-diddles or double paradiddles. Basic rudimental stuff played & mixed on a triplet pulse, there should be lots of videos on figures like this :) kind regards

Hi! This specific TD-12 kit (wow that was quite some years ago) :) was actually quite nice & my favourite self made kit. Still the sounds suffer from a lack of dynamic layers/round robin making especially loud hits/attacks very repetitive and unnatural in some places. Also the natural room ambiences in any contemporary sample library will give much more realistic results than the digital reverbs from older electronic drums modules. You can check out the drum-tec Silent Studio Sessions if you like, there I used Superior Drummer as well as SSD5 triggered from a TD-50 module and the results are really great: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGnMlJyFbKqBmaM Kind regards!

Let's say I'm not planning on doing any recording on my computer running Superior Drummer 2. Excellent video. Aside from the great drumming others have mentioned, the software does seem to make a difference. My dreams of a massive drum kit are slightly hampered by space and noise considerations, so I've been looking into V-Drums. It's nice to see that there are alternatives to the default module for getting a realistic sound (I couldn't care less about all those electronic DnB type patches). One question as I am new to this - how is the sound output? Can you use your computer speakers?

Exceptional playing and sound! Pretty impressed! ...I've never had a set of VDrums, so bit the bullet, and have LITERALLY just got home with a Roland TD-12 module and drum kit I bought off Craigslist for $185! He said he purchased it in early 2011...It looks like it's barely been used over the many years, likely covered by a blanket, and astonishingly, all the drums and cymbals work! Since I've YET to delve into the manual to see how everything works, what do I need to purchase next regarding equipment needed to get Superior Drummer 2 or 3 to work once I purchasing/download the software to my Laptop? I have a MIDI IN/Out and 2 sets of "Direct" or "Master" Output on the module. I'll have to figure out how to set up a set of powered speakers/Sub eventually as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Great drumming... In S.D do you set a seperate sample for the rim..as i can only get 1 snare sample assigned to the snare and most modules have rim and snare? Response on the TD is so much better though. Superior is great but still a bit muddy sounding depending on the kit. I can't see why Roland cannot do a deal with Toontrack and put these sounds into a module. No excuse really with the very low cost of ram and Hd's nowadays.
