I have now used youre yamaha custom kit in 10 different Live Situations and not only me but my whole band is completely convinced. These core-Samples are AMAZING! I changed a bit on the Crash Cymbals, the Room, the Overheads and after accepting the quiet stage, perfecting the inEar-mix for the band and buying much better monitors for our Singer and Saxophon-player everyone is soooooo happy! I purchased my TD27 for live play and was not thrilled with the stock sounds but persevered anyway. NOT AYMORE! These kits have transformed my Roland. I only use the dry kits without reverb and I run the module out of all 4 outputs separating the BD, SD, TOMS & CYMBALS so I can get total control over EQ and levels. Then run it to a Peavy 15" Dark Matter speaker. WOW! I honestly didn't think the kit could sound this good. These are now my GO-TO kits for most all of my playing. Luke, you are the man!

@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
@@itsgmani Thank you for the purchase! I'm glad you're enjoying them. The muffling will only affect the "main" instrument layer - there is also the "sub" instrument layer which is where you'll find my samples (this is what provides the majority of the sound at higher dynamics). If you press the SUB button from the Kit Edit > Instrument screen, you can adjust the "decay" of my samples under the Edit tab - lowering the value will act like the muffling option for my samples.

Dude! Love these kits. I have the house kit and I think I’m likely going to add these. Question for you. I’ve been using my TD 27 for live gigs lately and been loving it. I’m curious if I can use the main left right as two separate outputs and I haven’t been able to exactly figure out if it’s possible. Right now I have direct 1 as kick, direct 2 as snare and the main mono as everything else. Is it possible to make the left toms and right cymbals or something like that? A video about routing in the TD27 would be so awesome!
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, it's possible to route the stereo master output as if they were direct outputs. I'm not at the workshop to check the exact steps but have a look in the manual and you should find it (there might be additional manuals on the Roland site). I think it's just a setting in the routing options to swap from a "Master" setting to "Direct" but I can't remember off the top of my head. Then you can just route cymbals to one of the master outs (L or R) and the toms to the other, giving you 4 mono channels in total.

These truly are awesome! Thanks for this! I am using them on my VAD-506 with Digital Hihat. I swapped the snare from the Yamaha modern Kit to the Tama modern Kit, tweaked some eq's and wow, these are some seriously huge sounding kits! Especially the kick and snare. I'm just trying to work out how to stop the toms from sounding a bit machine gunny at lighter touch (I feel not the samples fault) just that your snare sample triggered by my Roland digital snare is so realistic feeling and sounding that its making the toms sound inferior. Its only on light touch that the toms sound a bit fake, when you hit them at higher velocity they sound very realistic. Perhaps there is some more fine tuning I need to do on the trigger parameters or perhaps it's a limitation of the toms in comparison to the digital snare? Best money I have spent on e-drums so far! Cheers!
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you! It's great that mixing and matching has given you what you want! You're right that machine gunning at lower velocities is probably down to the Roland sounds - most of my samples don't fade in until you're playing past ghost note levels. One thing you can try is adjusting the transient controls on the main layer (so just from the Transients screen on the menu) - reducing the attack might help. I sometimes do this anyway but being a bit more drastic with it might get your softer notes where you want them. Also make sure that your sensitivity and velocity curves on your trigger settings aren't making your softer hits come out louder than necessary. Hope that helps, really glad you're enjoying the sounds and thanks for the feedback!

Thank you so much 🙏 Glad you like the kits! Can you describe what you mean by not being able to get the hi-hat to sound like mine? There shouldn't be any difference between the demo and your final sounds really, especially if everything else sounds right. The only thing that comes to mind off the top of my head is making sure that the trigger settings (sensitivity, mainly) are properly set up so that the full range of velocities (up to 127 when you hit hard) are being played. If the hi-hat isn't hitting near the top of the velocity range when you play hard, it might not be playing back the top velocity samples.

Simply put the best custom kits I've ever heard for the TD-27. It would be pretty cool to have someone like 65Drums take all the different custom kit makers and pit their best kits against eachother:). You could do it yourself off course but i think it would make the most sense with someone that doesn't have a horse in the race. Just an idea. As far as the comparison with the TD-50, honestly i don't think I'd be able to tell the difference in a blind test on most of the drums themselves. The cymbals though, are much better on your TD-50 recording imo, less harsh, more resolution/clarity perhaps? Is that a conscious choice or a limitation of the cymbal sounds on the TD-27?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, that would be pretty cool! Don't know if Justin has enough modules to do that, but I'd be interested in seeing it all together in one video! Yeah, because of the samples, the usual small differences between the 27 and 50 versions of each instrument are masked quite a bit. As for the cymbals - I'm not using samples for those so it becomes more apparent. I've noticed with every kit I've made that the 27 cymbals never come out sounding as nice as the 50, no matter what options I use to tweak them. The biggest difference seems to be the ability to control the mic distance on the TD-50. This can add a lot of warmth and width and takes some of the harshness out. The 50's cymbals just naturally sound a bit wider and fuller too, typically with less noticeable attack. I try to EQ it out a bit and use the transients if I can but it never sounds quite the same, unfortunately.

What changes to the kits did you do playing “YamRecCust A Direct Mic Dry” to the music? It’s much more dry and the punch is much better than the Sounds that I bought. Even after turning off Overhead and Room…
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that you don't think the kits live up to the demo. I didn't make any changes to the kits for this video, I just recorded out of the Master L&R outputs. Whenever music is added to a mix, things like the ambience will get covered up by the music, so if you hear any differences between the "with track" and "without track" examples on the video, that's all it will be. Likewise, if you hear isolated drum tracks from albums, they always sound really ambient compared to the final mix - guitars etc will take up a lot of the frequency space around a drum kit. In order to work out why things don't feel as "punchy" - What is your pad setup? Are you using the digital pads? And are your triggers fully configured properly to match your playing style? There are a few things I can go through with you to check that everything is properly set up and to get you to a satisfied place. Feel free to drop me an email through the store if you're still dissatisfied and I can help you troubleshoot. It's much easier that way than on the comments section.

wow… didn’t expect that fast of a response. 👍 I use a VAD503 that is dialed in to max with heavy punches. I play the the kit on Full PA and line areas for all kind of Events. I already found out that room and overheads on the drums have to be turned off but then all drums lack punch. I adjusted the master eq for that. What’s you’re take on using the kit on bigger stages?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Ah right, live use is always tricky because the amp, speakers and the room you're in will dictate far more of the sound than anything else. All of my kits are primarily designed for headphone use and that'll always be the "optimal" way to hear them. Unless you're listening to my demos through your PA, you can't get an accurate idea of what my kits "should" sound like through that particular system compared to the demos through another type of speaker or headphones. It's apples and oranges, really. As you say, turning off the Overheads and Room will affect the sound due to the way the kits are made - a lot of the mid-to-high range fidelity is found in the OH settings I've used. Fortunately, the "Direct Mic Dry" versions of my kits aren't particularly wet even with these settings on by design. Although I don't market my kits for live use specifically, the Dry kits were made with this use in mind as they should translate the most easily. I would probably recommend putting the Overheads back on and seeing if that improves things. Generally the advice about turning them off is geared towards kits with heavy ambience, so you might be safe here. The Room ambience less so, but might be worth a try depending on the amount of ambience in the room/venue. If you're using the master outputs then just turning the OH back on affects those instantly. If you're running direct outputs, you will need to route the overheads through (ideally) a stereo pair or at least one output to get the intended effect.

Hey Steve. Don't worry, you can rescue it without a factory reset using the Copy Menu. You can copy kits out of the "Preset" memory. I've got a video about it here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5OXl5SNeZJ3jbs So before you restore the original kit, I would recommend copying the installed Originals Premium kit/kits to empty User Kit slots first, that way you don't need to reinstall them. Then once you have effectively "moved" those kits out of the way, you can use that video's guide for copying the stock kit out of the Preset memory to restore it. I hope that helps!

Hi. I just bought the kits on your site. Was wondering after using the preset kits do I still need to add FX to the toms when I record in my daw? Can’t seem to get the deep tone on the toms like in your vid
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Shane. The demo videos are just recorded straight out of the master outputs (L&R) with no post EQ or FX like that (just a small amount of limiting to even things out with the tracks), so you shouldn't need to add anything to them. The sounds should be pretty much as in the demos. Are you using the same headphones/monitors to listen to your module as you did to listen to the video? Variances in speakers can make a big difference. Also, make sure your trigger settings (sensitivity, mainly) are getting the full dynamic range out of the drums The majority of the tom hits in this video will be up near the top end of the dynamics, so check your trigger monitor to make sure you're hitting those velocities with a strong hit (on the monitor, you should be hitting between 115 and 127 on your strongest "musical" hits - ie. the hardest you will play in a normal musical context). I only bring that up because I've had some customers experience differences in sound who then found out they were only ever getting to the middle dynamics on their pads. Hope some of that helps. Let me know how you get on.

@@TheeDrumWorkshop thanks for the detailed reply. I’m using a TD27. I recorded on Reaper multi track. Individual track for each Tom. The results are as such - on headphone sounds sick, post recording on my monitors sounds pretty decent it’s only when I render the track to iphone is where the toms sounds a little plastic ish. I’m wondering if it’s the phone that is the issue. Also, with regards to sensitivity on the snare/ toms what sensitivity would you recommend for td27. Right now I’ve set it to 10-12. And again with headphones is ok. It’s only post production on my iPhone.
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Ahh, ok - I think I know what might be happening. If you're recording the multi-tracks, it bypasses the Master EQ and Compression - this will be where you're losing some of the weight from. These are both applied to the master outputs and the headphone mix. I don't really think there's a way around this as that's the nature of recording the individual tracks rather than the master mix. There isn't a way to route master effects with individual tracks. So in this case, you might need to add some FX to it. You could try and replicate my Master EQ and Compression settings on Reaper using the plugins that come with it, either on a track level or on master/group level. This could help to reproduce the sound. Either that or just record a master output mix, though I understand this loses some flexibility. I'm not sure if the phone will be making a difference if you're using headphones to listen to it, unless there's a setting that's downgrading the quality when you render it. Out of the phone speakers it will always sound pretty grim. As for the sensitivity - I can't recommend any specifics because it will come down to your playing style and I also don't use any of the stock Roland pads, other than the digital ones. It doesn't seem like this is actually the issue now that I've got more information, but if you watch the little graph on the trigger screen to see what your hits are doing, that will be a good indicator that you might need to tweak some settings. If you never hit the top, increase sensitivity. If you hit the top too quickly or your rarely ever get the lower end of the graph even when hitting softly, try reducing the sensitivity or using a different trigger curve (there are explanations for each curve in the manual). Hope that helps!

Luke et al: Can you selectively delete kits from the TD-27 module’s memory? I see you can delete entire backups and kits saved to an SD card but I would like to remove duplicate/unwanted kits I've already loaded from SD into the module's memory - possible? Seems you can only copy over user kits and not delete them 🤦‍♂️ And kit rearrangement is done via the “Set List” option. Can you copy user kit to user kit or does the source always have to be from SD card? I generally build a set of user kits via the copy kit option then do a backup of that list. Is it possible to see the individual kits w/in a backup and copy them selectively to user kit memory?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! You can't "delete" a kit on the module, there are always 100 kits slots. You can overwrite one with a kit from any other source - either another kit slot on the module or one from an SD card. The only actual memory that gets taken up is the User Sample memory. So if you need to fully remove a kit that contains user samples, you need to overwrite the kit and also locate the user samples for that kit in the User Sample List and delete those. There are instructions for deleting user samples in the PDF I supply with the kits (it will be under "Memory Management"). As for the copy menu questions, I made this video about it a while back that explains everything you can do with it on each of this generation's modules - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5OXl5SNeZJ3jbs

@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! You can, but there's a bit more to consider because of the samples. The main layer of the instruments are Roland sounds and the samples are on the SUB layers - these have been tuned to each other so that they sound like "one" instrument, if that makes sense. When you change things like the shell depth on the Roland layer, this can affect the pitch of that sound which means that it now might be out of tune with the sample layer. So you might need to alter the pitch of the sample layer if you adjust things like that. Also, if you muffle the Roland layer, the sample layer will still ring out over it, so you will need to adjust the "decay" setting for the sample. I'd recommend making a copy of the kits before making any changes, that way you always have an "original" version if you make any mistakes when editing. (This is better than reloading the kit from the SD card as that will load all of the samples again which can eat up your memory. There's a Copy Menu video on my channel that shows this off if you're unfamiliar.)

They are just sounds, so your pads/trigger setup won't change. As long as your triggers are already set up correctly then all of the pads will trigger properly, yes.

Hi. Sorry to hear you're unhappy with the Premium kits. It's very unusual to receive this kind of feedback, especially for this pack. I would like to try and work with you to resolve this issue if possible. Could you email me through the store's contact page with details of the problem (things like sound quality, if the kits don't sound like the demos etc)? I'll do what I can to assist you! If we can't resolve it, I'm happy to explore other resolutions.
