@@michaelschack You certainly put that assertion to the test in this video. In that sense Roland should be very happy with your review. That said, I would like to see another player with a light touch work with it to ascertain how responsive it is to highly nuanced playing and a wider dynamic range of hits. Toms are easy, snares harder, and hi-hat triggering is the toughest nut to crack for e-drums to emulate properly.

@@edwardx.winston5744 you can play with your fingers and there’s huge dynamic range more than most ever put into a recording or live performance. Published music is crushed with no dynamics left because of the volume wars. Michael is an absolute master player with incredible technique so he’s playing with power as he does because he plays like it’s his last like all great performers do. You have to try one, the sensitivity and expression is beyond compare for an electric instrument.

OMG!!!! I had never even heard of this gentleman before today, but I sure won't ever forget him now!! The way he beat the brakes off these drums makes me question if I should even refer to him as a gentleman at all because he was downright abusive to those drums! LMAO!! Wow!! This was some of the most enjoyment I've ever had watching anybody play electronic drums. I am sold on these things and I love the color. As far as the music goes, it was an awesome listen.

Finally ROland makes a kit with realistic-sounding toms. One area of note that is never mentioned where touchscreens are concerned is accessibility. There are blind drummers, myself included, and we do want to play eDrums. But we're being left behind by all eDrum manufacturers. I've been working on this for years and sadly nobody, Roland included, is willing to implement accessibility features directly into the module even when the offer is there to develop it for them for free, so we still can't access most features of the module without memorising every menu. However at least Roland haven't taken the buttons away. Is the app fully comprehensive, I.E can it control every single feature and setting possible on the module or are there still instances where you'd need to use the module interface? Are the apps platform native, or written in some cross-platform language so they too won't support assistive software?

I'm colorblind and told Boss and Roland to simply change the color of the lights so it's not green and red like 90% of color blind people are, and I still doubt I'll see a change in that. All their amps and pedals have these colors, so I can't use them live. Luckily there's other great companies out there !

The one should have been equipped with touch screen and control knobs anyways. Also, it is still not clear if rim click/cross stick sound is possible to get by its own if you strike head and rim( hoop) simultaneously. Usually there’s priority of one zone prior over the other which is no right thing . To me, it’s a major aspect when it comes to a snare drum. Overall, I’m glad a new product hits the market!

I agree !!!! That's what a rim shot is !!! Both hit at the same time and it gives you that high ringing, like in reggae music. I've been trying to get that sound on my TD27 and digital snare, but it's just not even close to the same as acoustic. I love harmonics on acoustic snares. It seems like an easy solution.... When you hit the rim and head at the same time, you can choose the type of high pitched ringing ??? Right ? I hope that's addressed on this new module, otherwise, they didn't really move the needle far in my opinion.

This infinite upgrade path for electronic drums isn't sustainable. Who wants to drop 9K for a kit that will be obsolete in 3-4 years if not sooner? Then you're going to buy another 9K kit? Don't get me wrong, I have a Roland electronic kit for recording (with SD) and practicing but I'm absolutely NOT shelling out 9K when I could spend that same money on a DW acoustic (or similar) that doesn't need 'upgrades.' It's easy to make a v drum sound by banging and rocking. But the quality must be seen with other genres with light strokes, with nuances, with different dynamics. Have we arrived at the correct sound of the brushes? How's it going with pop? Touchscreens are cost-cutting measure at best. It gave flexibility to the UI designer of course, but think about for a second.... if the UX is well thought out would you really need that flexibility ?? And of course it's error prone and will be quite erratic performing live. Instead of having touchscreens, just let the user connect to it with a tablet would be better choice. Stil that can't beat real buttons and sliders.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the dynamics of these built in sounds, still missing the soul you get from Superior Drummer 3, just get the TD-50x and run those samples through a USB into the the TD-50x module

You’ll find they have far more dynamics than any VST. VSTs use MIDI v1 still which is 7bit and only 0-127 and 16 layers of dynamics only whereas the processing engine in V-Drums has 16000 steps of resolution along with positional, interval and left and right hand sensing. There’s even hi-res midi built in for when software catches up one day. Try a kit to experience it. Soundworks has 18 dynamic layers x 8 variation and 5 mics per instrument so fantastic to use too and feels realtime with the V71 driver. It’s very impressive.

You can have any hh sound you like. There are many brands built in and in the packs and you can change mic position, cymbal thickness, attack and release, eq, compression etc etc and if still not happy record your own and layer it up in Soundworks that comes with it. You can record 18 layers with 8 unique hits per layer using 5 mics per instrument so you can recreate any sound exactly as you like it.

Someone will knock it off cheaper. They have to because the masses of drummers who crave this cant afford it especially in this economy. Its funny when electronic drums started the thing was they looked different along with the tech. But end of the day an acoustic kit is a work of art so its cool to mimick. Had to be.
@michaelschack

It will be difficult for any other brand to beat this quality, hardware included. That's why you'll find Roland on the main stages (look at how many SPD-SX sampling pads you see there), V-Drums included. Many have been able to afford - the hardware quality also plays a big role in their choices - and make money as a drummer with those. Look at how many musicians are using a Mac...despite the price. So no, none other brand will knock this kind of quality "cheaper", as cheaper stands for less endurance and quality. These instruments are suited to be hit hard and loud.

@ I don't buy the arguement of the sweaty hands. It's cheaper to produce. As simple as that. But for a high end product as this one it should knobs AND touch. So everytime you should set up a computer to set up sounds? Touch is more convenient. The kits are used in studio, practising AND Live. If i set up sounds i dont have very sweaty hands. There would have been a chance to do both, touch and knobs🤷🏻‍♂️ on headrush pedalboards it works perfect.

@@DAnthony14 I agree, when you consider all the different instrument sounds, overhead sounds/mics, room sounds, it's basically a completely drum recording package. Even if you went with an acoustic kit, you'd still spend a pretty penny once you factor in cymbals, mics, stands, and of course a nice sounding room to record in. If you're not going to record with it I don’t see the point, but these kits are very capable creation tools when you put the time in to learn the module fully.
