Snare and cymbals sound great! But is it me or are the bass drum and toms sounds so lifeless that it's almost as if you're just hearing the acoustic thudding of the physical pads? Surely they should punch and 'boom' a bit harder than this!?

You have endless editing options, he is using the stock kits. Most people like to edit their sounds to fit them specifically, no one keeps the stock settings.
