Tip for editing the stock kits: if you get lost and want to reset one kit without resetting the entire module, you can do that. Other-Copy, then press the middle button for "Preset" and press enter. This will reset that kit to the factory preset, but will not affect any other setting on the module!

I noticed at around 16:00 you started talking about curves. When you're changing to Exp or Log those stand for exponential and logarithmic. They are how your envelope curves are set up. Just do a quick search of linear/exponential/logarithmic envelope curves for a rundown. Great vid. Stoked to play with this.

Remember, you can record audio over Bluetooth directly into the module and export those as WAV files onto Sd Card. Directly Import them into the user sample memory and assign to triggers. No laptop needed! That's live sampling and you can even play along whilst doing it.

Thanks for the video. I'd really value your feedback on some software I've been working on - basically it's a configuration editor for the TD-17 (or TD-50) but in Windows rather than on the module itself. It's pretty early days - and this is just an Open Source hobby project - but I'd like to hope it makes life a lot easier if you're doing more than just tweaking a couple of settings. Documentation is at jskeet.github.io/DemoCode/Drums/ - all feedback very welcome.

Great video found it very useful. One question, There is no separate compressor but there is a compressor section within the multi effects under the Saturation for example. Have you tried applying compressor only by turning the other parameters down? How would this compare with a module that has a dedicated compressor setting?

What a treat you start this series shortly after I suggested it. Probably just a coincidence considering this kit is really popular right now. But I kid you not I saw this in my feed and I just started repeating "He listened to me! I needed this! Woow! Sub!Sub!" But no I'm pretty sure this is something you've been planning for awhile considering you said series at the beggining. It took me awhile but this is what finally caused me to subscribe. I'll be purchasing this kit really soon and I desperatly search youtube for information regarding this kit. So I just wanted to say thanks because I will definitely watch your entire series! I'm a beginner so I appreciate you doing this. I can't find any other video that goes into this much depth that isn't mostly mashing on the kit lol.

I watched this (you move quickly. I have fiddled with the snare to try to get a “rim shot” (the solid click), and cannot find it. Frustrating, as I used that A LOT acoustically way back when I played in a dance band. The -17 should have it, as I was shown a -04 or something a couple years ago, and it had an awesome rim shot. Any help?

Just picked the TD-17 up and really enjoying its simplicity and power. Yes, you absolutely can load in your own .WAV file songs. The stock songs are definitely pretty weak. The TD-1 has much better songs (and practice modes).

Acoustic vs electric..think of this..once it’s coming out an amplifier and speaker..it’s all electronic..and virtually all music is amplified, through a speaker, or recorded for a speaker later..

I bought this kit a couple of years back to be used strictly for recording (I’m primarily a keyboardist), and I’m wondering if there’s a setting to adjust the amount of pan placement for each tom? For example, I want to be able to hear the toms hit (in your speakers/headphones) from left to right. Also, I’m hearing a tom triggering whenever I [accidentally] hit the bell of two of the ride cymbals. I tried to troubleshoot by disconnecting the tom I hear, but that didn’t work.

Is there a way to plug an additional Roland Dual trigger like rt30hr? I tried to insert in aux hole and crash 2 both and then I tried to adjust settings, but I have great problems in dynamics. It's strange because the module allows to choose this item. It should work fine but... Is it possibile instead to use a TM-2 module and make it communicate with Td17 in order to expand the drumkit with other triggers? If yes...how? I've seen on manuals that it is possible by a midi cable but It's not well explained. Can someone give me any idea? Thanks

Hey guys, I recently bought the TD-17KVX but I'm having problems connecting the TD-17 module correctly to my computer. When I first plugged it in, the TD-17 driver for Windows 7 64-bit was automatically installed but the module just won't appear as a storage device anywhere on my PC (as seen in this video at around 5:43). I'm using a formated 32GB SD card in the module, on which I already saved some recordings, and the USB driver mode is set to "VENDOR" as it says in the owner's manual. If anyone could help me getting the data exchange via USB working, I would be really grateful.
@Lasers459
@Lasers459 5 жыл бұрын
I believe the module wont appear as a storage device. You have to connect it to a vst to play. And you have to have a flash card reader to transfer files to the module. But you probably already figured this out.

Is it me or the loose to tight. Or even the ambient isn’t that drastic. Our church just purcased a vad. 306. I messed with it a bit. For example I want a more snary sound not just a edrum snare sound. I want to specifically dial the snare in more to a realistic crack. Maybe because it’s a edrum. You’ll never get a genuine snare sound.how to add attack to snare to tighten up the sound a bit. Again I changed ambient. It didn’t change the drums not much at all. Yes the tape. That is a obv change. Idk. Where can I find more specific settings. Matter of fact. The room , I went thru all them no change much. Is there a button I’m not seeing?

Is there a way to set it up to where one pad will mute the other pad when hit? For instance, I have a 808 style bass drum in the key of B on my mid tom, and one in the key of E on my low tom. These sustain for a bit, and remain in key. When I hit the B note Right after the E they clash. I want to set it up to where the mid tom pad will mute the low tom pad when hit. Is this possible?? Hi! Great review! I would like to ask you something that happens to me and I do not see anybody speaking about it. I have the TD17 module on a VAD 306. When I import my own sounds, for example a ride cymbal, if I hit it twice then the second hit mutes the first, creating a really weird and unnatural sensation. Typical situation when hitting the ride alternating one hard and one soft hit in a groove. The soft hit does not overlap and mix with the first, but it kind of replaces it creating a drastic decay between the hard it and the soft one. I hope my explanation was clear enough so that you could give me an opinion of how to solve this. I was able to improve the performance by crating another sublayer but it’s not ideal. Obviously, this behavior does not occur with the preset the TD17 comes with. Thank you!

@65drums hey dude love your videos thanks. Can you help quick? I'm beating my had against the wall over here. Have a TD-17, have been using superior drummer 3 for a year and recording into Logic. all good. Randomly, my kit is no longer triggering in SD3. SD3 is registering the. TD17, and I can click the kit in SD3 with my mouse and hear the audio in my headphones from drum module but cannot trigger sounds in SD3 from the kit. It has to be a Roland module setting that maybe I fucked up? I have local control off, TD17 selected in SD3, all audio in/out's are correct. What the hell am I missing, is there another setting similar to "Local Control OFF" that I may have disengaged that's preventing me from triggering MIDI in SD3 from my TD-17? Losing my mind over here!!!!

How do you change the sound of each zone? I’m using a Yamaha cymbal for a ride and the bell is a crash sound

Figured it out. You have to make sure the H&R option is unmarked when assigning the sounds. Then you can change the rim sound of the ride to a bell or whatever you want (cowbell etc)

Buying a pd100x pad or a better snare pad, can i get the positional sensing with the td17 module? Im about to buy a td17kv to use it with Superior Drummer 3 and this its a very important topic to me. Doing this upgrade, will the module and the software recognize it?

Hey Justin, i have imported wav files of songs into the TD17 (onto the SD card). When playing back the song, is there a button I can press to return back to the very start? I know I can skip forward and back 5 seconds at a time within the song (using the up/down arrows), but cannot figure out how to just go all the way back to the start of the song from any point. Surely this would be a necessary functionality for Roland to have included??!!! (PS. I have emailed Roland multiple times and they never reply, hence I am trying to find an answer elsewhere - hope you can help).
