The Behringer sounds like an 606. It was "famous" (or rather infamous) for its very metallic hi hats. The Roland sounds like a mix of an 808 and a 606.

I'm not willing to take my 606 on stage with me, and the sounds of both of these models are. . .passable for live use, in my opinion. I agree that the hats/cymbals and the crazy way they interact are what draws people to the original. I have to say that the way Roland baked in what sounds like a TR8 (with the 606 update) into a small boutique product is great for this price point.

Roland sounds waaay better. It's sound more lively, more depth, more feel. The Behringer just sounds very much like a sound pack, too dry, and low bit.
@79Glitch2 жыл бұрын
@@Sonicade It’s a real, analog drum machine-dry is what a discerning producer should want. Not only does is sound closer to the real 606 sounds, the individual outs allow for so much more possibility than the Roland. In other words, I have the complete opposite opinion of you, which is fine. I think the Roland boutique is for the casual musician or beginning producer who just wants something to sound fairly production ready out of the box. The Behringer is more for the seasoned music producers out there who don’t want to go through the trouble of acquiring an OG 606, then and going through the pain of getting it modded for proper modern use.

This would be a totally valid point and huge favor to the Roland, if on-board processing were our only option. But, Behringer decided to compete by going sideways and offering multi-channel outputs. Yes, being minijack sucks, but I can get all of my tracks in the DAW and mix with the same FX engines as my other tracks, making the mix sound unified. That eliminates the need for on-board processing for many

I must admit, I have been considering purchasing the Behringer (when it became available) for a long time, but now that I have seen the Roland version, I think it beats it hands down. Nothing against Behringer gear, I have some of it myself and it is excellent, but the difference in build quality, sound and sheer versatility is definitely more marked between these two models.

@@platinumedgemusic9293 agreed. Behinger missed the mark here by not pushing the envelope enough. But I have a few other boutiques too, so tough call. That snare though! The snare on the Behringer is much better, whereas everything else better on the Roland.

I've been collecting Roland gear since the 90s and although I love my TR08 and TR09 I've not really used them in my own productions since I focus mostly on Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Future Bass. What's interesting about the TR06, based on the sounds in your review is that it seems to be the first drum machine that can deliver ready made Drum & Bass and Dubstep snares which is very exciting. I like Roland's ACB technology. It sounds as good as an analog. Even the TB-3 and TB-03 are legit TB-303 clones, close enough to the original. I am sure, that most of the listeners were not able to hear or were at least unsure which one is analog. Yes, the TR-06 has more going on in the upper frequencies and comes across cleaner and would have been my bet to be digital. This said, having more "air" makes it more suitable for modern sounding productions or live sets. Overall, the TB-03 is the more progressive device. Though, the TB-03 is quite expensive, when considering that digital electronics are cheap to produce, and the small knobs and tiny connectors would bother me. But overall, it would be my choice between the two, if money would not be an issue. The RD-6 is great at the price point, especially when considering that it has more electronic components. It recreates the original pretty good, and is definitively the choice of a purist on a budget. The larger size makes it look better on stage (some may want to cover the Behringer logo *lol*), and if you prefer popping colors, Behringer has you covered, too. There are other cool drum machines out there to take into consideration. You may find a Roland TR-8 equipped with the 7x7 expansion pack, which contains a 606 kit, for a good price on the used market. That's pretty much a 606, 707, 727, 808 and 909 all in one unit. ACB makes it possible!

@pirateradio8083 жыл бұрын
it is nothing like comparing a digital drum kit to a classic drumset, because the TR-06 specifically claims to be emulating the 606, and furthermore that is a realistic goal with a digital drum machine, whereas emulating real drums with an infinite amount of expressiveness is basically impossible even with high end software.

I mean, if you want a 606 clone maybe the RD-6 is the best option, but is 2021 and the TR-06 is not a clone, but a power-up 606, with tons of effects, usb audio, trigger out, you can apply all the effects to any instrument connected on the mix in, plus you have sounds of the 909 included as well! This machine is a lot of fun. Sturdy plastic and aluminum body, ACB technology, compact size perfect for having a lot of synth on a small space, tons of effects, battery operated, USB audio and multiple outputs, shuffle/flam, 909 sounds, a lot of trigger out options, send effects settings separated on every single instrument and the mix-in.... nice job.... I correctly guessed A was the Behringer and preferred it to the Roland (but I'd probably get the Roland for the better build quality/buttons, and those trigger outs to send to my Moog semi-modular Grandmother opens up all sorts of cool possibilities). Thanks for doing this.
@benh.6354 жыл бұрын
I actually picked it up on the hats and snare. The Roland sounds more "production-ready" as you would expect from a virtual synth emulation while the Behringer sounds more authentic to its analog drum machine roots.

Good comparism video Bo, nice price for the Behringer, and although much dearer the Roland comes out on top for me.

If I was Roland or behringer I’d release these in a similar time window great PR For both bit like blur v oasis in the 90s - I bet they link this stuff up. Like the korg 2600 and hey presto the behringer one comes a few months later of which I’ll buy. Hey I bet they come off the same production line in the same factory in China - just like car manufacturers it makes a lot of sense and gets us great gear that we can afford

They don't. Behringer owns a whole town basically.

The colour of the distortion on the Roland reminds me of Rebirth. Its actually a cool little box, like it

Of all the Boutiques, I think this one makes the most sense. Basically the same size and layout as the TR-606 and the added features give it a modern update. Unlike most of the other Boutiques that have too many knobs, buttons and sliders that are all tiny and make them tedious to operate. Not bad.

It's a mixed bag with the boutiques. I thought the SH-01A had a great form factor / interface as well, not too cluttered

I really enjoyed the kick in the Behringer but the snare sounded more snappy on the the Roland. But regardless of that the Roland simply has more sound options and the distortion on the Roland so they've got my money on this one.

It's very easy to know that A was the Rd6 because it sounds slightly higher in "pitch" from the Roland. Specially the Hihats. And of course it becomes obvious when you engage the distortion. In my opinion if you already love the sound of 606 you will fall in love with both machines.

Good info. Thank you. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention at the moment of mentioning, but does the tr06 come with the case? $65 for a Roland kickstand is a bit much compared to the stands made by other companies, especially multi unit racks for the same price.
