If only the plastic didn't look so awful. Also, I really wish Behringer would have designed a new, more minimal logo for their synths and drum machines. The RD-6 sounds really good though (the TD-3 not so much IMO).

I hate the new translucent colors, but they're cheaper than the "cool" ones like Silver or Yellow. I saw a translucent tangerine TD-3 for $109 at a popular US music webstore. It's both amazingly low, but also not low enough when compared to something like the Pocket Operator series. I do love the sound of the TD-3 and RD-6 though, they're close to the real thing, and less irritating than a subscription to Roland's "cloud" plugins.

I was a bloody fool. Hehe. But I've always loved my 606 and the Behringer sounds really, really close. Plus a great clap sound plus distortion plus individual outs and MIDI and all that other stuff. Only slight downside is it can't be battery operated like the original. Anyway, at this price? Pffft, it's a no brainer. Lovely mini-review and great jam.

The fact it has 6 outputs makes the lack of editing of the actual sounds acceptable - to me at least...v hard to buy with zero possibility to change the sound but those 6 outputs...hmmm...thats a v decent thing to see for the money...pretty big deal to have individual outputs on hardware drum machines and to have that on an analog at this price makes it ok...

Great jam as always Pete! I had a 606 with the separate output mod back on college, and I used to put the kick through a distortion pedal to beef it up so the built in effect in the Behringer makes sense. It would be better if each sound had an effect send pot or switch though, as I'd prefer to put a subset of sounds through the built in distortion.

I totally agree with your opinion as well, that incoming midi data should not be ignored, when patterns/tracks are playing. With it being a polyphonic device, it would be really nice to be able to play/program in additional percussion, on top of patterns. Great videos buddy, I am now looking to get into some hardware and I have spotted the Behringer RD-6-SR drum machine and the Behringer TD-3-BK bassline synth. I have no experience in using things like these but I do know I want to use something like this, i.e. stand alone, as opposed to software. Hopefully you can answer a couple of questions for me: Are these machines generally easy to use for a very inexperienced person? If I buy both of them, is it possible to link them and if so, what is needed? Lets say I wanted to then record something using them both,how is that done? Do I need an external hard drive? Or are they their own 'instruments'? Is there a single machine that would do what I need after hearing my needs? I have a budget of about 600 for a start so if there was something else you could recommend too that would be great. I love hip-hop and house music so any other machines you think are good for a novice would be great. Also what leads / cables / connectors would I need? Sorry for being a complete novice and asking so many questions but you're videos are the ones I can follow easiest!
@PeteMidi3 жыл бұрын
Thanks - in principle, RD-6 + TD-3 is a good combination, although the TD-3 sequencer is not everybody's darling, at least not mine ;) Possibly, a better solution for the beginner is a groovebox that integrates drums, bass, sequencer and fx. You may look for the Novation circuit machines, but this is not my field. If you really start at zero in all regards then it may be a good idea to look for some suitable internet courses/tutorials ...

I see what you did there. Red TD-3. Yellow RD-6. So, I guess you have a black RD-8 hiding somewhere? Unless you are austrian? Anyway, thanks for the video. It did helped me make up my mind a bit. Though I like the machines, I still wait a little longer for getting one of these. I am still more of a 80s person than the 90s. I loved the sounds though, and must say I hated the distortion on the RD-6. I get what you are trying to do do, but all I could hear was clipping and a very nervous control to get it sound right while maintaining the same output Db's. The MIDI not responding to commands while sequencing is also a big deal for me not do go for it, yet. Is this still an issue though?
@PeteMidi3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback - yes the distortion unit is a matter of taste, it quickly destructs the original sound and replaces it by something else, which you may like or not... The issue with the midi triggering has been fixed, it now also works when the sequencer is running.
