I also see lots of people say they hear “machine gunning” on td-50, maybe I’m deaf or dumb , I don’t detect any of that MG effect at all. The new updates sounds on 50 have been long time coming. There was quite a drop in number of sounds from td-30 to td-50 and I absolutely understand the gripes about that. I also understand some people don’t like the “ Roland sound” it’s definitely has some extra processing and that’s not for everybody. I have both td-17 and the strike module. I own the Cherry VAD706, and it's BRILLIANT. I came back to rewatch this video, the one that convinced me Roland was my future. Things: The hi hats are sublime!! You don't have to think about playing them. You just... play. They're perfect. Digital snare is fantastic, but the module is so much better that it makes the snare great. I plugged my Strike pad into the module and it's better and more sensitive than with the Strike module. Digital ride is really sweet, but in my use, it's not much different. Not knocking it, hear me. It's a beaut. But the same test with my Strike ride, the Strike ride is well upgraded with the Roland module, that it's enough for me. Jazz players may disagree, and demand the digital ride. EVERY PIECE is high quality, down to the hardware and anti spin cymbal bits. Heads, shells, even the packaging was outstanding. Better than my brand new acoustic kit was packed. Sounds awesome, plays awesome, looks awesome. I could NOT be happier, regardless the price. Could've got way more pieces, drums cymbals etc with other brands, but I wanted THE BEST.

Awesome drumming like usually, Ralf! Thanks for this! The responsiveness on the snare, the ride and the hats is second to none and best in class. The sounds are usually over-processed, especially snare and kick. However, they sound nice for a drum module and could be used in live situations (most people wouldn't recognize a difference anyway). What still drives me NUTS though are those toms, because they still sound (and always did) like plastic trash cans on ANY Roland module. So, if you'll spend 8k on an electronic drum kit, just go the extra mile then and invest a few hundred bucks more for Superior Drummer or EZDrummer or any other decent VST.

All the articulations & positional sensing work really great, but in the end it also depends on the snare sound which is currently selected, how obvious the position on the pad changes the sound. At first glance the Digital Hi Hat does not seem that "impressive" I am tossing getting the digital Hi Hat or selling my TD-50, Snare and Ride and going with a GEWA G9 Module and their Hi Hat, Snare, and Ride. The GEWA Hats in particular seem to trigger quite well and the snare has a workaround for cross-stick that seems to work similarly to the Roland Digital Snare... Any thoughts since you are lucky enough to have played both systems :)
@Hotdang6173 жыл бұрын
Just curious- what makes you say it's not that impressive? Have you played it? It seems to trigger absolutely flawlessly after listening and watching. Did you notice a point when this wasn't the case?
@JorgeParagliding3 жыл бұрын
@@Hotdang617 I guess I just couldn’t see or hear (granted I should play it first) any difference with my current VH-13 other than the extra 1 in of playing surface. By just looking at videos, it looks like the Hi Hat on the GEWA triggers as good (if not visually) better than the VH-13 for half the price of a VH-14-D
@Hotdang6173 жыл бұрын
@@JorgeParagliding Yeah it's definitely hard to tell by watching a video. I preordered this hoping it would solve some of the things I don't prefer about my VH-13- Open to close can be a bit rough sometimes especially if you're close to closed. Also if you get a bunch of barks in quick order it can be a bit sloppy. Hoping it picks up on R vs L hand triggering as it says it will? Happy with my other digital roland products. Granted SD3 also makes all of this more variable. Good day!

In my optinion the VH-14d hihat plays outstandingly well & I prefer it a lot over the feel of a VH-13. Just my personal experience though ;) kind regards!

I'm sure it looks cool having electronic drums that look like real drums, but isn't the extra resonance of full size shells going to make the acoustic noise louder, which is working against the whole reason for using electronic drums?
@drumtecTV3 жыл бұрын
When using mesh heads, there is no resonance of the shell & big pads have about the same noise level as small ones. Still the ergonomics / playing feel do make a huge difference though, if you compare playing on a 14" mesh snare or on a 8" plastic/rubber pad. Kind regards!

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the symbol swells and buzz rolls don’t sound very natural on this particular kit. I’ve noticed that’s a pretty big issue with electronic drums, even nowadays when the technology is a lot better than it was say 10 years ago.

This guy could make Quaker Oats tubes sound good. meanwhil, I am still waiting for a ride cymbal tha tsounds like the classic Heavy Ping Zildjians of the 70's. As big as a Spartan shield, no swell, constant decay, clear crisp PING.

Without commenting on the obvious (price) which I'm sure most people will be talking about in the comments already, honestly I think the kick drum is just too big on these sets. It looks completely out of proportion with the rest of the kit. There's absolutely no need for it to be that long. It just takes up stage space for no reason and looks kind of dumb in my opinion. Not to mention long kicks are going out of style already in the acoustic world, they're pretty 2010. There's no doubt in my mind it plays great, and sounds good in my opinion. I just don't really care for the look. Finishes are all pretty boring too. I'd take and EFNote 5 over this any day.
@kikodrums92393 жыл бұрын
It’s a 22” Kick. That’s the regular “Rock size” kick for kits, especially with 10” and 12” Toms. Not to mention there’s a 14” Snare. If anything, I’d argue that the 14” Floor Tom is the only thing that throws the kit off balance.
@demonicsweaters3 жыл бұрын
@@kikodrums9239 It's a 22x18, 18" is just far too long in my opinion and looks really dated. Shallower kicks are more modern these days. It could have easily been a 16" or even 14" depth. Also, I agree on the 14" floor tom. If I would be deciding (I know I'm not, haha, but if I were) 10", 12", 14" toms then a 20"x14" kick. I mean if you're paying all that money, why would you want such a goofy looking setup? The kick drum literally has no benefit at all being that deep.
@jaydoode153 жыл бұрын
@@demonicsweaters 10 inches is the standard size for most shell packs these days, it's not out of the norm. If anything, a 13" tom is not something I've seen on many modern kits, unless it's customized or a dedicated rock drum kit. So you basically want huge toms and a tiny kick drum? 22 x 18 is also pretty standard for today's kits.

Hey Jim, as far as I know the PDA-100 has a side trigger while PDA-120 & PDA-140F have the new trigger system with multiple trigger cones, so there shouldn't be any hotspot issues. You can find more info on the kit here: www.drum-tec.com/roland-vad706-gn-v-drums-acoustic-design-gloss-natural Kind regards!

Why not just purchase a TM-2 and some Roland triggers and trigger your acoustic set? 🧐
@NelliliebtChemie3 жыл бұрын
Because the triggers don‘t have all the properties these toms have. They have three triggers, completely eliminate hotspotting and much more.
@drumtecTV3 жыл бұрын
TM-2 has 2 trigger inputs as far as I know, no compatibility wiht digital pads, no positional sensing, no hihat controller compatibility etc. Wouldn't work out unfortunately, apart from this no external trigger/acoustic drum combination will get the same playing results as a manufactured Roland/drum-tec/ATV pad. Kind regards!

From what I've read in the VDrum forums, out of the box factory setup isn't that great. However it would seem loads of tweaking can be done (we're dealing with digital no?) to achieve a more natural effect. There are multiple explanations on how to obtain a far better than out of the box sound in the VDrum forums on the 706 kit TD-50x module. Additionally, there are 100s of other options via a DAW and VST such as Studio Drummer, Abbey Road, etc whereby you can copy and paste the latter into the TD-50X and create your own template. To buy (or not buy) this kit based on out of the box sound I believe would be an improper judgment.
