Speaking about memory lane....I remember jumping around on my parents king size bed when the shows intro would start. "Roland Martin shows you what he knows!" My father never fished but he would still take me. Usually dropping me off before work and picking me up after. He never understood how I got so obsessed with fishing. As a latch key kid, I had very little adult supervision growing up. I learned from watching you, Roland. Its the only thing I've continued doing throughout my life. (AND getting in trouble) Only when I'm fishing, does the world make sense. Thank you, Roland.

The first time I ever fished Lake Okeechobee about 10 years ago. I stopped at your place in Clewiston. Your Uncle George turned my friend and I on to the Sink-O lure and told us where to fish. We had a great day on the water. I bought a shirt from your shop and sent it to my girl in Sydney Australia along with a photo of George and myself. Thanks Brother

Roland, I'm 3rd gen Japanese American from Ca. During WW2 my dads family went on a camping trip that wouldn't end. When I was in the 5th grade I asked my parents if I could write a letter to some guy in Florida and buy a pack of his plastic tube worms (Black/chart) I remember them looking at the ad. confused. They asked me what I planned on doing if I had these things? When I said "fishing" they were even more confused because I didn't go fishing. I didn't even have a pole. "Fish eat that?" If I got a dollar every time I was asked that question throughout life, I'd have more tackle. Anyways, I did get the pack of worms AND the rush of discovering it in the mailbox. And like a miracle, Santa had told my dad to take me to store to pick out a fishing rod that X- mas. I got a closed face, pistol grip, baitcaster and it was on like donkey kong! (Tho it wasn't invented yet) When I was much older I started to learn the irony of me always asking my dad to take me camping.

Again I have been rewinding this video to write down my notes from this master and right away I am going to make a neat copy of them. Not an information to be missed! My fishing wisdom is very limited but I would like to say that my number one lure is the Rapala Skitter Prop (blue color back and orange belly) and number two the Rapala Rattling Rap (Chrome blue color, 1/2 oz. size). Those two, together with the Zoom Trick Worm (watermelon seed color), are my favourite baits. I would also add the Rapala Shallow Shad Rap and the Rapala Original. I am about to start fishing the techniques wacky, drop shot (above all), walking baits..and many others, so I have a lot to learn and I greatly appreciate Mr. Martin´s videos. Back in 1972 (when I began to fish) we Spaniards imported those wonderful American black plastic worms from the Boone brand which I caught so many bass on. There was also the good popper Trouble Maker (Golden Eye)...:) and the rivers were pristine...Sorry.

Great Video: I liked how you combined the old lures with newer models. It shows that good lures are still good no matter how long they have been around, that is something many young anglers often miss. That goes for good older Anglers too, if you know what I mean. Remember the five basic lure groups for Bass fishing; Top water, Spinnerbaits, Jigs, Soft plastics and Crankbaits. Learn to use these five lures well and you can catch fish everywhere. I read that somewhere a long time ago, I can’t remember exactly where. My list: top water lures Zara Spook, Pop-R. Spinnerbaits Rapala Terminator T-1 Titanium, Bass Jigs. Stanley jigs. Soft Plastics Mann’s paddle tail Jelly worms, Mister Twister Sassy Shad, Rapala count down minnow, Shad Raps, and Fat Rat shallow diver in the craw color. Now my question is what about the list of lures that did not make the cut? For example, Roland Martin’s Helicopter Lures. There’s always a few lures you’d like to forget. That could be a good story topic for another video that you can laugh about now.

Roland, I couldn't agree with you more about the senko. I admit, I usually fish saltwater. but if I'm looking at freshwater baits I would probably look at the senko and pass right by. culprit worms, then give me salty lizards. but after hearing (and watching) you catch bass on the senko I might give it a try. I know it's not a sales pitch. you wouldn't use it if the senko didn't work. Wow that crawdad color crankbait with the orange belly sure does bring back memories. and the tiger colors! Soft baits sure have changed since the days of the purple worms with the hot pink tails.

I used to watch you when I was a kid and now I have kids so I am trying to get back into fishing with them so my biggest request is to please type show closeups of the lures you are using and add the names, sizes and colors in the info box when you post the videos. I have been watching your videos lately and doing my best to find the lures online once you say it is great. Thanks for helping me teach my kiddos!

I keep the copper black back Rapala in my tackle box for spring spawn. Fantastic bait for spring. My favorite crank bait was made by Norman.
