I am a phd student and I love doing research. I feel very sad when Islamic scholars say that women should stay at home, maintain the household and raise children. When i think about that life it feels so poisonously boring. With the development of the technology you have washing machine, you have dishwasher, you have vacuum cleaner, and refrigerator. So what is the "work" womoen supposed to do all day? Raise kids? How many? One day the children becomes old enough to go to school. What do you do with the free time? I have seen so many in *strictly* islamic families women are lazy and backbiters, and addicted to tv and cellphones. They don't do anything at home other than making issues in the families. Such a wastage of human resources. Thank you for talking about the issue

I agree, many house wives are lazy, backbiters and addicted to tv and smartphones. The only reason they turned out to be like that. Is a lack of knowledge on both deen and dunya, especially deen. But housewives are also like the backbone of a society. Raising a strong ummah depends on strong mothers. Raising kids the right way in this world of fitnah isn't a joke, raising kids is a 24hr job itself. I dunno how come, a paid job is a job but raising with proper care and moral values isn't? You don wanna raise kids, being a housewife sickens you, yeah that's you. But there are women who may not want to be career women instead they want to be housewives which is a great choice of career. Even if they have a career, then they want to quit after marriage of having kids, that's an excellent choice and great selflessness. Housewives are the nurturers of future nations, they are the main future builders of nations. The more knowledgeable (both in dunya and deen) mothers we will have the stronger the ummah will be. Raising kids with Islamic teaching by being a stay at home mother is also like contributing to society and deen. And that's the biggest responsibility we have as women. Mother's get 50% more importance than fathers in Islam cause their role is that big and more important in a child's life. Yeah we women should gain knowledge and try to have a career for a period of time. But building a strong ummah raising both our daughters and sons with Islamic values and teaching is our biggest responsibility. Also leaving pious kids is like sadkah that you will keep being rewarded even after death.

@@humayaislam9671 sorry but you didn't understand my pov. What do the women do in their free time if the kids start going to school and having their own lives? And with the development of technology there are not many things to do by hand in the home. It's not like I never stayed at home at all- I was a stay at home wife for over a year. And I know there is not much to do at home other than cooking and cleaning. It is such a waste of human resources to use all day just to cook and clean. So if you want to keep yourself busy you have to constantly give birth to kids till you stay fertile. Otherwise - no, there is not much work once the kids start having their lives- let alone become adults and leave the home. Even if you have kids till you are 45-50, there is a long lonely life ahead- watching TV and sulking at the kids that they don't visit you often.

Based on my experience as a Muslimah born and raised in Indonesia for 25 years, I admire the women there. They form communities that engage in activities like organizing religious programs, training women in new skills, and creating entrepreneurs who support their families financially while being wives and mothers. These kinds of communities provide a supportive environment for personal growth, economic empowerment, and for women to fully realize their potential. However, balancing work and family responsibilities can be tough without enough support.

We are such a misunderstood religion. Islam is not getting enough credit for being such a beautiful religion. People have so many stereotypes because there are so many fellow Muslims who think this way. I admire and respect Hazrat Khadija Raziallahu Tanahu and all Prophet Muhammad's wives (PBUH) because of their lifestyle and independence even in such an era. Hazrat Aisha Raziallahu Tanahu was the mother of Ummah and is said to be the most intelligent scholar in Islamic history. She was so special that Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) had a prophesized dream about her. He had gotten married to her early because of that same dream.

@@Deltalady4 Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) marriage to Aisha is often debated due to unclear age estimates (6-20). Early marriages were common across cultures. Today, similar age gaps exist, yet are rarely questioned. What matters is the Prophet's respectful treatment of his wives, who reciprocated with devotion. His marriages often united tribes promoted peace, and strengthened Islam. Historical contexts differ; let's avoid judging past relationships by modern standards.

@@mahbubahmed7. Historical evidence shows how active muslim women were during the time of the prophet. Businesses , battleships, they were so involved in both, both are mix-gendered spaces. The verses on awrah, haya' , modesty etc have laid up very beautiful rules for women in public. None of the verses talk about physical segregation, let alone the domestication of women. If all of us, men and women, really understand the verses, really know to guard our eyes, modesty, practice haya', take care of our clothing n physical appearance following the Islamic rules, public appearance, be it for work, travel, study etc won't create any issue. The prophet allowed this, majority scholars agree with women's participation in public life, economy etc, why would a mere individual like us make things so difficult? Islam is beautiful in and out. It is this kind of mindset, our inability to respect differences that make Islam look ugly, outdated.

It’s interesting that he mentions Malaysia and Indonesia as good examples of women actively participating in society and having rights because traditional Malay culture is a matriarch which is very different from the other Arab countries we are familiar with like Saudi, Yemen etc which have traditional patriarchal systems. Malays have always honoured women and it’s been taught culturally, so for Islam to support these already existing traditions is a no-brainer. It is even documented that prior to the Prophet (SAW) introducing Islam to Mecca, the people were corrupt and treated the women and girls absolutely terribly. Islam was a way to teach them and reform them, that women have human rights as well.

Never think like this again. Allah brought us down on this Earth to live life according to our purposes that eventually are a way to worship him. To limit your potential because of thinking that men are allowed to do this and that and only them, is to betray your reason of being alive. Remember, you live for Allah and Allah alone is the One that will judge how you lived in this lower life. So, strive to be the best in whatever it is that makes you passionate and you know in your heart is something that you do as a form of worship.

JazakAllahu Khairan Kaseer Sir Nouman. I have been feeling this identity crisis for a long time now just because the scholars literally portray women as lesser beings... They conflate the messages of Surah Ahzab and present them to reinforce the idea that women are just to serve men at homes.... I feel sad and disappointed that they are scholars and still misunderstand the messages regarding women. Allah created women as allies of men, and not lesser human beings, and He has Told us in the Quran Himself. Allahu Akbar ❤

They were business women (like our mother Khadījah), leaders and soldiers. And the fact that muslim women are every day more educated then you, is just killing you, right? You know how you notice a good man? It’s a man who KNOWS and practices his religion and has a strong masculine personality to encourages women to be the best version of them selfs. "We are meant to feel less" is exactly the feeling sexist societies using religion are imposing on women when religion itself encourages women to be an active part of society, have a voice within the modesty of Islam of course but still live up to our potential. It makes me sick to my stomach to see how little truly understand (or are willing to understand) this issue. I was taken care of by maid who brough her boyfriend to home and had sex in my house. At 4 years old I caught them. Next maid, eating my portion of food while they were having the same. As a teen I wanted affection, did lots of sin. Jealous of my friend that had a mom at home after school. Alhamdulillah Allah gives me chances to do taubat at 30.

Okay... He mixed many issues together and presented it as a very clever approach. Where did declaring exceptions as the general rule come from? Yes, he may have helped many people with the Arabic language, but this does not require taking religion from him. He is not an alim anyway. Choose scholars carefully. He spoke as if working women were building their lives independently of the capitalist order. We are not governed Islamically so, we do not wait working life and social life can be organized and kept safe in accordance with Islam. I live in Turkey and I am a newly-graduated pharmacist, believe me, I could barely stand university... How can I "work" in this system that is hostile to Allah azza wa jall? Regardless of how Jewish Zionists control the pharmaceutical industry, what will remain of my sense of shame, haya if I live all day long in the pharmacy, hospital, company, etc., dealing with men who are complete strangers to me, communicating well, and having to smile? Moreover, with this kind of speeches, what kind of life am I being encouraged to live like this when Allah saved me from environments that he did not approve of and granted me the niqab? Despite every problem, "some people" praise the working life and encourage Muslim women to do so. This is nothing but fitna in today's conditions. I cannot believe muslims genearally "forget(!)" about freemixing is haram and almost everywhere, freemixing is on its peak. How can we preserve our haya and iman in such system... Haya is a part of iman, you all know. And I would like to point something serious: We muslims deeply in need of countries founded on Islamic Sharia. We need our nizam, our system. You see, we just can't entegrate into kufr systems. Our mindsets, living purposes, priorities are completely different. We must reject them and their false-ideoligically formed systems. How can we really happy while taking their education, working in their places... I call out to my sisters: Look for ways to use the talents Allah has given you "only in a way that will please Him". About your talents and mind etc. ; After learning your religion and your priorities, look for mashru' ways to use it for the ummah. Be sincere to the Ummah. Even before that, be sincere to our Rabb. You can fool everyone else, but you can't fool him tabaraka wa taala. He is the one who knows best your intentions that you strive for. Ask yourself what do you want to work for? Where? Know your priorities well, love your priorities because Allah has made them priorities. If you are married, you have to be a spouse first. Love being a wife. If you find this task boring and do not get pleasure and a sweet excitement from it, you are at a loss. I am very serious. In addition, the preparation and raising period for the child is underestimated. It even seems like a boring chore. What happened to us? Let's recover. Let's not fall into traps. Especially feministic traps. I pray to Allah taala to give us hidayah and make us steadfast on hidayah.

I agree with you! He simply messed it up like a pickle of concepts here and there. Islam also has a great history of literature, tradition which he forgot to mention. And put exceptional cases- need of hour as rules. This I think is primary where he has been brought up and the influence of surroundings. But this is not to be taken as the face value !

🇲🇾 greeting from Malaysia. I feel sad reading your comments above. In my country - which is predominently muslim - but also with a large and vibrant non-muslim community, Malaysian women are scholars, lawyers, architects, doctors, teachers, businesswomen, ministers. Most muslim women in Malaysia wear the hijab - while holding down respectable careers. The marriage unit is a partnership, the household and parenting tasks should be shared tasks. So really ladies, we're in 2024, should not these archaic beliefs about women's role be let go? Why can't a female architect also be a good mother? That's why society has all these support systems i.e. daycare, kindergarten, nannies etc. to assist working parents.

Let me respond your "greetings" with "alaikum salam" :) Alright sis, I do not want to make a jadal, you can easily find the rightest answers for yourself by doing researches inshaallah. If a servant is "sincere" with this deen and with Allah azza wa jall, undoubtedly he/she is going to be granted "basirah" (My Allah grant us basirah, righteousness and steadfastness) so I will highlight only three issues inviting you to contemplate and I am gonna take your permission to go: 1. Hijab is not about just "wearing a garment", but it is about living a life in haya, in izzah - glory and honor - which earned by only Islam. Please check out the lifes, perspectives and sacrifices of women of salaf as salih. They ARE our rolemodels, not today's women. 2. We are muslims and Islam is the only true religion, how can we dare to play with the rules of Islamic Sharia, especially "due to the time"? This is an absolute danger to must be aware of. "Archaic thoughts"... Astaghfirullah Al Azim... I kindly recommend you to gather yourself together about "understanding the muslim perspective on sharia" 3. We do not take or alter our form according to the anti-Islamic systems which dictate capitalism, feminism, comunism, secularism etc. Because these are destroying us and modernizing (!) Islam in a shaytanii-devil way. At the end of the day, I underline a huge reality: We must see this chaotic world is getting prepared for "the biggest events". So, where are we in the middle of this good and evil/tawhid and shirk war?

@@betulk2769 may I remind you that Aishah r.a. was a scholar? That there were also female warriors, healers etc. during the prophet's time?

At the same time, this needs to be balanced with women are NOT obligated to work and have a corporate job if they don’t want one. These days, it is excessively difficult to manage a household, raise kids, study and practise deen, and work a * full time* job. I honestly think what’s most realistic for women with kids is to work part time or casual, and that also, the capacity of work of each person (or woman in this case) is different. And as women, we still need to prioritize, because working overtime at your corporate job isn’t going to help you get to junnah, but investing your time in studying your deen, increasing ibadah, focusing on your kids and what will make your husband happy, will help you get to junnah. At the end of the day, what we need to fight for is for women to have the CHOICE to work if they want to, NOT to get all women into the workforce and probably do work that they themselves find unfulfilling
