Depending when you were born, what you see and feel for a watch, what emotion they generate, you fall in love with it - it can be a Daytona, an old 321, or a cheap Casio. No rules. The SS Daytona was always sought after and never in the display cases decades before the latest social media hype. It’s not a new or artificial phenomenon. The 11 series ceramic Daytona Panda is THE ultimate Rolex regardless of price point. It’s now a rock star with VIP status. You’ve got a great version of the watch, but I’ve learnt that when it comes to design, I should never speak too soon, because despite how much I analyse things, the reality of how things grow on me is unpredictable. Rolex would have trialed that design for a long time, so they have the benefit of experience over us.. just like Ferrari design, there’s a reason it ages so well. As of right now, I’m with you that your version is the best.. but I wouldn’t make any bets on it, because sometimes it can take years for it to ‘click’.. and when it does, there’s no going back! There is no doubt that 126500 is a better more refined version Daytona. But what choice do you have when you are buying from the AD. I think 126500 is a better looking Daytona especially with black dial. But I wouldn’t reject if AD offers me 116500 in any color 😉

Huge congratulations to you. I had no preference regarding Daytona black dial vs. panda. My AD offered me the black dial after three years and many purchases. It has ruined all other black dial watches for me. Sold my sub, sea dweller, and speedy. Only the black dial Milgauss GV remains as a black dial alternative in my collection. I think the Daytona is the Rolex that people would buy as their only Rolex if it were readily available. I think you may find over the next few months that consolidating your collection will be easier now that you have the panda. Please keep us posted. I am definitely interested.

Congrats!!!! Did you get this Daytona at the same AD where you got your Day Date? Awesome!!! Enjoy and be careful rocking it in public, watch your surroundings. I agree this version is better than the new 2023/2024 variant. This has a true classic oyster case and it's smaller/thinner than the new version. I want one, but there's not much in modern Rolex that I want. I own an Explorer 36mm 2021, I don't care for the 41mm Sub no date (I prefer the pre-ceramic). I like the GMT Batman, but it takes time to get one and new/used prices are coming down close to retail (I can wait). I want a Day Date 36mm white gold. I could get one TODAY, but I feel I'm not ready for it. I have a few obligations and life goals to achieve before I will buy one. I feel a little too young for a Day Date (I'm a youthful 51 year old flat stomach, full head of hair, still look like I'm in my 30's good genes I suppose).. that's just me, to each their own journey. So for me it's pointless to spend money, show insincere effort, find time to follow up with AD sales reps just to prove my customer loyalty to my AD for a Daytona. Personally I will wait until I can find one around $20k if the time is right. I know these will not get back down to $17k-$19k 2016 prices. However, if and when Rolex get it's new factory up and running. I'm sure we will start to see more Daytona models available to cool off the demand.

i love mine, but when i wear it after my vintage sub or my batgirl gmt i find the face so fussy on the Daytona, you have to double take to check the time at a glance, the gmt and sub i have are so easy and crisp to see time in an instant , the extra dials, loads of face text and thin Daytona hands make it not the most practical, but it is perfect size and weight and a pretty watch.

It’s a decent looking watch. I wouldn’t call it the best looking Rolex though. However I’ve gotta disagree with you on the new one. The new Daytona is elite. That stainless bezel ring makes the watch seem a lot more premium and completely balances out the overpowering effect the bezel used to have on the watch. The Zenith El Primero suffers from that issue. Rolex managed to fix the watch from the ailment it suffered from, and I can honestly place it on the Speedmaster level now. However, it’s all personal preference and I’m happy if you’re happy.

I appreciate your opinion. And thats why watch collecting is cool, we can have different opinions. I personally don’t want my daytona to look more like a speedmaster, I see that as a negative. But again it’s okay that we disagree.

@@ChristopherNegroni Hype is definitely somewhere in my psychology as an unavoidable variable 😂. However, for some reason there are aspects of the designs of both that just don’t do it for me. The Nautilus is my favourite overall watch though. Not sure why, but that one definitely does it for me - would be my only watch if I could ever acquire one. Unfortunately it is literally never going to be in my wheelhouse.

This was never on my radar a few years back, it was always the Batman since this seemed unachievable and I had “realistic” goals so never considered. I was saving for one, got a call from my AD for the TT CHNR even though it wasn’t on my list, I didn’t want to risk having a purchase history so I ended up buying it and not loving it, moved it on for a small profit. Cut to, finally was in the position to buy a Batman through the gray, thanks to recent YT channel growth and success and even bought the Starbucks. I soon realized how much I wanted the 116500ln Panda and made a trade for the Batman and Starbucks for the Panda. Owned it for about 5 months and for some idiotic reason, I traded it for, wait for it… a Batman plus cash. Not even a month has gone by and I realized I made a mistake. The Daytona proportions and the over feel were just second to none, aside from my first Rolex the Polar Explorer 5 digit… I am now in the process of trading my Batman+cash to get my damn Panda back! And yes, I agree the 126 Panda just doesn’t do it for me. Hard to improve on the 116500! Great video!

Agree. Most iterations of the new daytona are a downgrade from the 11 series daytona. Only exceptions might be the platinum and black ss.

Agreed that the new steel Daytona is a let down from this classic. There is less “Panda” going on with the thinner sub-dials and bezel. Just doesn’t have the same visual impact. I like the new precious metals versions just fine, as they were already larger cases before, but I’m not buying the new Panda to replace my current one, just isn’t an upgrade:

I have enjoyed your video, excellent work! My take. 3 years of purchase history (who knows how much you spent) and suddenly you get the call to go and burn other 17K USD completely unplanned😅.. I would respectfully disagree. The sports chronograph category has thrived in big part because of the Daytona. Is it marketing? Absolutely. Rolex marketing is one of the best. I do agree that it’s probably not financially the best purchase. But you could do worse than buying a Daytona at retail.

As much as i see and have tried them, i prefer defenetly new one, for me it's more balance due to thin subdials and much presence on the wrist. The old one for me its too small and unbalance with thick subdials. Anyway it's always a daytona, its important to enjoy it 😉!!!
