I had no idea about the imbalance of the older reference. I think the older reference has MUCH more subtle character in the imbalance, the thicker subdials, the chunkier markers, and the dial color finish.

I've owned my 116500 white panda a few years and when I tried on the new white panda model, my son and I had a hard time distinguishing the differences in the new model. However, upon closer viewing, the main thing that stood out on the negative side is the new Daytona is taking on the chunkier aspects of the Sub and GMT lines. It seems to me that, with few exceptions, every Rolex model tends toward becoming more Sub-like over time. That's why I have liked the Daytona models so much. The sleekness of the Daytona has been one of my favorite aspects and I have owned several versions. I liked the lug differences and the less box-like form factor. Time will tell. I've gone "new" so many times now that I wouldn't be surprised if I were to get the new one eventually.

Charlie great review of both Pandas. Since it’s virtually impossible to buy at AD. The grey market is the choice. I believe the new white dial Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch at $8100 at Omega Boutique, without having to spend ridiculous money at Rolex AD to hopefully get one after years of waiting is a great alternative.🤔

The reason it looks smaller than 40mm is because it is. 116500 Daytona is 38.4 mm. measured it myself.

May I ask for your professional opinion? I have the 116500 with white dial (secondary market) and might get the 126500 white dial from my AD soon. Which one to keep long term? I do love the 116500 and have not yet really experienced the 126500. Also, I do not want to sell a watch that I receive from my AD right away. Or should I keep both long term? Really need to think about this. Also from a financial perspective.

Me grandpapi gifted me a watch that is just collecting dust it look so similar to this watch with the 3 circles on the dial but mine ls gold with some colorful stones that resemble a rainbow. Took it to the pawn shop and they were scared to even hold it. And didnt even make me offer which waa weird to me because i know its not a fake with it having box , a few papers and receit . First I've heard that the white dial finish is slightly different - that's a good spot! The boat-shaped hour markers of the older reference always seemed to jar with the angular hand set to me. I do much prefer the new reference in every respect. I think once people have got used to the newer model there won't be much looking back.

My issue with my Daytona was the size. You are exactly right, it wore much smaller than a 40mm. It was too small. Hopefully the new one will wear larger. We’ll see.

Basically, the new one corrected the imperfections of the old one. The 126500 is more subtle, more refined, more elegant I would say. And it is typical to like "the old one better". It is the same with cars.. until your eyes adjust ;)

As an owner of a stainless steel bezel white dial Daytona I see how this new reference is going back to the Daytona roots - like many here I do like thicker black rings on the subdials of the old reference but overall the new reference is better balanced, wears bigger and is more like the elegant Daytonas of the past. That’s why they toned down the white dial as well.

I have both, the new one is WAY better. Much more presence and more updated looking while steel retaining the iconic look. OF COURSE the 11 series ceramic will always be special and has its cool little quirks and stuff but that unsymmetrical case and 38mm size just doesn’t do it for me. I love the “look” of this watch, but I miss the date wheel/Cyclops. I catch my self looking often when I need to date something, so I enjoy my Yachtmaster more often. I wear this for shorter amounts of time, like an engagement, date, or for Church.

116500 looks nicer with the larger subdial rings and the 38.7mm size is what makes it special , its rare to find small chronograph watches and every watch is 40mm plus these days. I have some large watches at 44.5mm so can get my big watch fix with those, for me I prefer the Daytona to stay smaller maintaining its elegance and keeping it different to other Chronographs.

My brother has a spend history around 25-30 over the past 3 years, and he was offered his Panda in June. People like to scare folks that this is an impossible watch to get. Don't fall for it. The asymmetrical lugs of the old ref was clearly a flaw. That’s why Rolex had symmetrical lugs on the PM models. They fixed their error, upgraded the movement, protected the bezel to flush with the case, to produce a much more refined model. Good pick on the new ref., Charlie. You’ve got top notch taste, M8. 💯

Great comparison and review brother - I got the call from my AD for the new panda 126500LN a few months ago and initially before seeing it in person (just side by sides on the internet) I leaned toward the old one. But as with most watches, it was a much different experience in person and I'm glad my wait bled over into the new model refresh. The symmetrical lugs and polished bezel ring help it feel more balanced and sporty (the full ceramic bezel on the steel models just always felt odd to me). The other big change that I don't think you mentioned was the crown guards. Visually I much prefer the more substantial crown guards of the new model. I also wasn't sure about how I'd feel about the thinner subdials because they looked derpy in pics when compared to the older, thicker ones. But again, in person it is a much cleaner, more vintage feeling aesthetic especially when combined with the trimmed down indices. The upgraded movement just helps push the new model over the top. Either way, you can't go wrong but comparing mine next to friends' 116500s in person - I would take the newer 126 10 times out of 10 👍
