This video appeared on my homepage, and I’m glad it did. It’s so refreshing to listen to a watch collector who’s got such a healthy and wholesome attitude to his collecting. I loved every word you said, and it just made me realise how many other enthusiasts are far too concerned with just buying more and more watches, but never feeling content. I love how you’ve downsized in order to wear the watch you love more often. Good for you, and I’ve happily subscribed to your channel.

What a message to read. THANK YOU! I must admit, there’s always a watch i’ll want 😂. But honestly, I’m extremely happy with what’s happening now. I’m glad I experienced watches that seemed to be great in my eyes and others, but working out it, it doesn’t work for me has been a great part of the journey. I day dream of an Explorer 2, however i think i’ve just accepted. The size is an issue. I shouldn’t accept how well it wears for it’s size, i need to accept its too big overall! I’m loving the explorer and it has gave me so much joy of recent as i see it very often on the wrist 😊 Thank you for subscribing.

Following the call I got mine recently and your video popped up on my YT suggestions. I have to agree with your comments on this watch. When it was released a few years ago I was tempted but wasn't too sure about the 36mm from a lot of comments that were going around at the time. I picked up an older Tudor BB36 to see how I got on for a good price and it worked great on my wrist so I registered my interest in the 124270 Explorer and I'm very happy with it. Since I got mine I was considering trimming don my collection to just a few as this watch ticks all the boxes. I might hang on to the Tudor as for me it was part of my journey to getting the Explorer. Thanks for sharing.

Briliant! it's great to hear the love you have for your Explorer, and absolutely awesome to see you wearing it for everything! Unfortunately we parted company rather painful after just short of twenty years, but I'm on the list for an Explorer... hopefully it won't be too long! Enjoy every second you have with it, and create as many memories as you can

You’re one of the reasons why I bought my 124270. And I recently tried on the 40mm and thought it was way too big as well. Other 40mm don’t seem as large and open as that. I bought it with the intention of wearing it daily. That means to work where I moving heavy stuff around for a good chunk of the day. It’s no surprise that it’s earned some scratches quickly. But I think it’s the perfect daily watch and of course, wildly diverse. I wear it to the pool, out on a boat, to work, and even out to the pub or even a nice dinner with a jacket

Great watch. I bought mine in Zurich in 2008 during the financial crisis. No wait list, just walked in and could take it with me. That was the last year before Rolex changed the Explorer to the bigger dial. Paid around 3500€ for it at that time. What I don‘t like about the newer ones is that they changed the lume to a blue color. Mine is green and I like that more. Anyway, still my favorite Rolex model ever.
@timemycollection Жыл бұрын
2008 WOW 🤩 Fantastic! The 114270 definitely has traits that are better than the 124270 for sure. For me it’s the 20mm lug width and nato accessibility that is a super win. I do love the blue glow 💙 The Explorer model/line up is my personal favourite of the collections. All the best. 🙌🏾

Nice one 😉 I take a rucksack to put the flash bag in (I got mine from an Independent so not a green bag with a crown on). Yep, the Burgeon tweezers are a must (I wold not swap a bracelet out on a Rolex, but they are needed for Tudor too). I wish my EX40 was 40mm (not 38.5mm) but the only thing I would change is to have a coronet at 12 instead of the triangle to free up the text space on the dial that causes a bit of controversy.

Sorry if you already do these things, I’m mentioning it as I believe it definitely helps. Popping in store at least once a month. And email the SA every 4-5 weeks. Even if you have popped in the store. Unfortunately, it’s a choice by the manager of which SA gets to choose who to give it to. And when your SA says they want you, they can prove your interest via regular emails and they should be noting on your profile every time you come in. This sounds like we’re jumping through hoops. But as customers were not in control of when we can pay for it and pick it up. So we have to wait and do what we can to get that opportunity. Sucks i know! But truly. Once you have your watch. You can say thank you if you choose and never go back in and move on. I was on a “waiting list” for over a year to find out i wasn’t on anything, which was confirmed by another store. I have some videos about it. Once i was registered with the new store, i got the watch within 2 months. And i strongly believe that was because they felt sorry for me, so they made me a priority to get the watch based on my story, based on their humanity. Meaning it’s all on their choice. I’m typing a long message because i really hope you get the watch. And feel frustrated knowing you’ve been waiting for 2 years, especially after how i was treated in a store. I ended up building a great relationship with my SA, and the rest is history. I really hope, you the call soon so you can enjoy the watch 🙌🏾

Congrats!!!! I own the same reference since October 2021 and it has been my almost everyday watch. Along with my Speedy Pro. I saw the 40mm and it looks & wears large…. but, it’s perfect for guys who have big wrists or prefer larger watches. I will say the dials and case are exactly the same proportions but only larger on the 40mm. My only complaint about the new 40mm is the 21mm lug width bracelet. The lug width overpowers the case (just like the old 36mm with the 20mm lugs) and the bracelet is what makes it wear/look large. I’m a 36mm Explorer purist and to me the 36mm is the true Explorer. However, if I were to go larger, the 39mm is a better wearable larger Explorer.

How would you compare the finishing between Grand Seiko and this watch? Does the missing date ghosting bother you? This is the only Rolex I am considering.
@timemycollection Жыл бұрын
The date is needed for me. But it’s not the end of the world. Without being a expert, I wouldn’t truly be able to speak on finishing. However, apparently Grand Seiko have better finishing. If thats to be true, it might be the same as 720hd compared to 1080hd. You wouldn’t really notice too much if any. This watch does do everything better than any other watch does one thing. This could be a one watch job. And it could pair with any other watch in the collection. I hope this is helpful 🙌🏾🙌🏾

I’ve had many rodeo’s with my Explorer and lately it’s on the bracelet and i’m loving it! One of the modern watches which is not flash but true to heritage, size and purpose. You’re going to love it. I recommend to wear your smiths to the AD and let them know your story and why you want the Explorer. Unfortunately in AD’s they have profiles for watch allocation and genuine watch stories are more powerful than people just wanting a watch for a future or current milestone.

At the moment the Explorer with my quartz GS gmt and Garmin (smartwatch), is giving me everything i need. Now that the watch is two years old, im noticing it is now verging on being out by 2 whole seconds per day...perhaps its just the watch ageing slightly now...Have you noticed anything like that with yours?

@Bisley1 Жыл бұрын
You can fit natos, but not as well. Depends on the brand and thickness. Not my first choice, but I’ve cut the doubled fabric off of some straps making it a single pass through. Sure, the watch isn’t “secured” anymore, but the fit is tight enough that your watch won’t just slip off the strap and fall to the ground when you take the watch off… that being said, the 114270 is better suited to strap changes

I have both, coincidentally I finally bit the bullet on the 114270 after two years of debating between 36/39mm - that was just 3 weeks before the 124270 was released😅 and i feared that the the 39 would be replaced with a 41 (like the OP lineup) and the 114270 price would skyrocket. How wrong I was. Anyway, I got the new one because of the better lume, lumed 369, better bracelet and clasp, but truth be told, I prefer the 20mm lugs on the old one, especially if you like changing straps (though 19mm are available but the spring bar is also closer to the case making it unsuitable for some straps). Also i prefer the less aggressive taper of the bracelet and the comfort of the flatter clasp, even if it does feel cheaper. That being said, I decided to wear the new one instead because it’s newer, technically better and has 5y warranty and I bought the other one unserviced and would have to drop some money if I wanted that taken care of as well. But still, i have not parted with my 114270 yet (partially because prices dropped when the new one was released) but also because I like the explorer so much, that i might just get it serviced eventually and put a nice leather strap on it and wear it for dressier occasions and use the new one as my daily beater. TLDR: 114270 good too, no need to upgrade. Both have pros and cons 🤷🏼♂️

It’s so sad that watch crime has become such a big problem in the UK and a few other places😒 hearing that people tell you not to wear it here and there sucks. The Explorer does fly a little under the radar, but unfortunately the Oyster bracelet is a giveaway for anyone with an eye. Putting it on a nato for attending risky places/ events and travelling etc certainly makes it a very covert choice. Especially because it doesn’t have a cyclops either

What is your wrist size? I have a wrist just under 7 inches and I’m thinking the 40 may be a better fit as I’m 185 and 6 ‘ 2”
@timemycollection Жыл бұрын
My wrist is 6.5 inches. With the 36mm, the bracelet tapers to around 16mm near the clasp. I know most people hate that. As your wrist is bigger than, maybe you’ll dislike it as well. So maybe the 40 is the better option. But please do go in some shops and try them on. My advice is go in the shops and try it on as much as possible. Waiting for the moment i can afford the Explorer 36mm.. I'm on the AD list. Hoping it'll live up to expectations... I've had many watches and have lost money buying and selling...(Speedmaster, Aqua terra, IWC mark 16, Hamiltons and Seikos)... I guess it's all part of the learning journey and I've learned that i prefer versatile smaller watches... So yes...i hope this Explorer really is the best do it all watch that can be worn in any situation ( like my trusted Casios W86 😂) P.s. I'll do what you do and treat it like my 5600e square G shock - wear it in any situation. It's a watch that will look great covered in scratches My favourite brand is Omega but i haven't found a modern omega yet with the perfect size and look (like this Explorer) I could get a Railmaster but it's 40mm, or an older 2254.50 Seamaster but if I'm buying a watch for life, i think i prefer a modern watch that nobody else has worn for 10 years I do love the wave case backs of omega, and some of their vintage looking watches like the 1948 but the Explorer is the ultimate rolex and the only one i like from their lineup ... so i could always add an Omega later but i think the Explorer will be a solid choice By the way, just like you, i never thought i would sell my Omegas and that awesome IWC.. but what i find is i get a moment when i realise I'm not crazy about a watch any more... or its a little too large, like the Speedy, or i don't like the open case back on the Aqua Terra... there is always something... so i can't promise to myself that the Explorer will stay.... but i hope it'll be a keeper Thank you for the video. It's encouraging Final p.s. i also considered older Explorers as they are better for straps and natos.... but again, a watch which has been worn and beaten up by someone else.... for the price of a new one? Seems a bit wrong... maybe if they were half price, like most other used items in the world... but that's not happening I've also had an offer of an Omega De Ville Hour Vision with an art deco dial which is stunning (2017) for a 1/3 of the price of the Explorer.... but it's 40mm and 12.5mm tall and a sapphire case back... I'll see it in person but maybe it's a distraction? Maybe i should keep saving and wait for the Explorer
@timemycollection Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment 🙌🏾 I love it! Explorer was a solid choice for me. And I do think it’s a great modern watch that does everything satisfying ❤️. Hopefully this watch lives up to the expectations for you, but I feel it would. The main dislikes I hear about this watch is the size, but now there’s a 40mm. So The Explorer line in my opinion is the best line up with options for watch lovers. Thanks you

@@timemycollectionin terms of size, I prefer smaller classic watches. I'm not a small guy but I think the 36-39mm size is just comfortable and stylish. I'm not one to show off. It should be 4k in my opinion, but that's life

The hands are too thin for a watch that is designed to offer ultimate outdoor legibility and the word Explorer needs to be back down the bottom for dial balance, and where oh where is the glidelock? don't brand it as an adventure watch if you skimp on the that.
@timemycollection Жыл бұрын
The Easy link is good, the glide lock could be outstanding on this piece. The length of it might not work, but the T-fit works so it could be done for sure. The hands work well for me.
