Today, Christian goes hands-on with the NOMOS Zurich World Time and compares it to Rolly's old faithful Pepsi GMT. First up, we have the Rolex GMT Master II ref 16710, originally retailed for about $4k. At 40mm in diameter, it wears pretty true to its nominal size. Next, we have the NOMOS Zurich World Time, which retails for about $6,100, is 39.9mm in diameter, 11mm in thickness, and somehow wears larger thanks to the lack of any substantial bezel and thus the massive presence of the dial. The Zurich's in-house movement allows the watch to jump through all 24 time zones while holding the home-time steady.
Though not innovative in any way, the Rolex GMT is still an iconic, classic GMT watch. Unlike the Rolex, the NOMOS is significantly easier to manipulate, with just the push of a button changing the current time and maintaining your home time with ease. When it comes to versatility, both are pretty equal, though the NOMOS definitely lacks the water resistance of the Rolex and thus is slightly more prohibitive in where it can be worn. At the end of the day, the Rolex will still be a Rolex, and the NOMOS won't, but on a spec, technical level...for once, it really does come down to the watch you most want to see on your wrist, subjectivity en maximus.

I´d take the Nomos every time over the Rolex. Yes its not a good investment. But if you buy watches only as an investment then you probably will never enjoy it very much.

@Mark Michael Well that's your opinion. The Rolex is definitely a better investment. But to me its nothing special. There are so many watches that looks the same. And that's a bit boring. Rolex is one of the biggest manufacturers of high end watches, and that also means that there are plenty of them out there. So there is nothing special, almost everyone that are into watches have one.

Thank you for grounding the Rolex GMT. The new models at their current valuations are ridiculous and non-justified. I've had both of these watches and the Nomos was certainly far, far more interesting to me. You can pick them up at about $4200+ pre-owned which is crazy considering how much this watch over delivers. I highly recommend to anyone tired of Rolex waitlist.

I can never understand people buying watches as an investment. You want a watch - buy one you like. You want an investment - buy some stock.

They complement each other. The Rolex is the sports option, the Nomos Zurich is the dressier one, the non obvious choice that makes you part of that special club.

I have a ceramic gmt and a worldtimer. The two watches are so so so different, it's incomparable except for the gmt complication. They're way too far in price too. I think this comparison is more appropriate between explorer 2 and the nomos. Even then, it's stretching it.

I have the 116710ln. Used to have the Nomos Zurich. Can't recommend it. Not having the date is annoying, however by far the biggest issue is that half the time zones don't work half of the year depending on which countries you're referencing. This is because BST and other time zone differences aren't accounted for. So it seems 'simple'. But you have to constantly work out whether its actually correct or not.

As for the 2 watches, no contest for me, forget Noms, it's definitely Rolex 16710, although I don't own one.. My collection of GMT consists of a 16700 pepsi, a 116710LN discontinued all black, and finally a 126713CHNR root beer. And I love them all equally.

Just my opinion but I think it's gimmicky with the combination of Arabic and Roman numerals. It gets on my nerves because it's a bit of a dog's breakfast. Design should not include too many elements. And I hate Roman numerals. They belong on grandfather clocks, not on wristwatches.

Always a gr8 video to watch... but i am wondering how come you comapred a Rolex GMT against a NOMOS... Rolex is: 3k more, is not possible to buy at a retail price, is stupid to buy for more than it RRP, and is a sport watch vs a classic watch... PLUS you have to take it off to adjust the time zone when needed & is a trouble magnet when you wear it in most coutries you visit on holiday. NOMOS is: Fare priced, wearable in jeans as much as with a formal attire (rolex is a sport watch shuld not be worn under formal wear if you do your a peasant) it's very easy to purchase at any respectable watch shop, and is not a trouble magnet no matter where you arein the world cos the real world is still ignorant to most makes beside Rolex AP PP Omega. Nomos GMT shuld have been comapred to a GrandSeiko GMT, Bremont GMT, tudor GMT, Bell & Ross GMT, sinn GMT...and so on all makes who have more incomon to Nomos and can be actually bought than the one watch everyone wants but cant be bought and is way above in price... is like comparing a Roleg gmt to a JLC Reverso Grande GMT!!! Again beside hipe rolex is at a loss here on so many levels and the first is you cant buy one! lol

Hi there Christain. Hope you are well? You should always try to state the lug to lug. I really feel this NOMOS was a bit of a miss due to the very long length. Otherwise, an awesome , iconic design This is also a problem NOMOS has with the larger orion models

@@robinarman7300 Hi Rob. Very true. i think all brands should have the lug holes ahead of the lugs and not at the edge. My longines has this issue. This way, when the watch ages and the metal gets eaten (Which does happen), the lug holes will be protected. It is really the length that needs improving, it is way too long. Have you seen the 40 mm Orion, it is ridiculous because the 36 or 38 mm Orion(cannot remember) already has massive lugs.

Tudor GMT bezel does half hour jumps so you can use the 24 hour hand as the local reference if you are in india time zone. Or actually, most eta based more affordable gmt watches tends to have the 120 click bezel so you could do the 24 hour hand trick with those as well.
