The stainless steel 126710BLRO is a £7K watch. Rolex have their faults, but they make the best value; waterproof 18ct Gold sports watches: I also had the 116719BLRO and wore it every day as it looks like stainless steel and attracts less attention. The 116718LN yellow gold versions with black dial (green date wheel figures and green GMT 24 Hr hand and green GMT-Master II text) and Anniversary green dial (with yellow Gold 24 Hr GMT hand and black date wheel figures) were both cheaper than the white Gold version and looked nice but will attract more unwanted attention. I wouldn't buy a 126710BLRO/BLNR at double MSRP. I would get a Blancpain or Panerai as I detailed on other channels as their MSRP are around the same price as the inflated 126710BLRO/BLNR.

Great video Bear, and good points in favor of owning a white gold piece. I personally prefer yellow gold but that is simply my taste preference when it comes to color. If it's ok, can I ask, what is your opinion on the Submariner 116618LB? The channel sponsorship of Charles Bukowski made me chuckle. The Canadian dollar is currently .76 in relationship to the US dollar so it took me a moment to convert the prices into USD. I like white gold and platinum for their stealth qualities in this day and age when places like Central London are not totally safe for those who are wearing fine time pieces. As a collector seeking representative specimens of the great tool and sport watches of the modern era, I would go with the stainless steel reference. As an individual who enjoys luxury watches, I would go with the white gold reference.

Hi Bear, good conversation starter as always. I don't currently have any precious metal pieces in my collection, but had an opportunity to try on a white gold Blancpain 50 fathoms. I was shocked at how much heavier that watch felt compare to a SS! Completely different shade of color (much softer and more beautiful in my opinion) and there's something with how gold conducts temperature, which just makes it feel more comfortable on your wrist. So, if I could afford it, my choice would be the white gold all the way. I wonder what your thoughts are on Platinum watches? Could that be another interesting conversation? Thanks, -Leon

I actually found it strange that they use white gold instead of platinum
@bearclooneywatches41864 жыл бұрын
Why?
@kfung44 жыл бұрын
Bear Clooney Watches from my knowledge and experience in jewellery, in general platinum more durable than white gold, especially in a long run, they might look similar in the beginning, but white gold required recoating in rhodium every so often, otherwise it will become dulled and look a bit yellowish while platinum only look dulled but reminds its color. And replating cost on white gold is nearly three to four times higher than platinum, which we suppose to do every three years on jewellery, and the cost just adds up. But I guess they might also have to take the weight into account, pure platinum might just be too heavy. And Rolex fans love the how the watches showing its age, all those discolouration and the cracked dial on the old sub are being hyped like crazy.
@Utoob83 жыл бұрын
@@kfung4 In addition to that platinum would be much more expensive, just compare the price of a white gold day date and a platinum one.

Great video! That indeed is a very difficult choice to make. Although I fully appreciate the value of the white gold, and love the color, I would probably go with the steel. My reasoning is that I do like the bezel colors a bit better, but the tie breaker is the wearability. Those polished white gold center links would drive my crazy because I would obsess over my concerns for scratches. Not that I can afford either one.....I don’t have to make that difficult choice😊

I have hard time paying premiums as well but I think there is one major point you missed... I believe people can rationalize premiums if they believe the watch will hold value at that premium. Steel has been so hot for so long now and if the trend continues they’ll be in the money in 6 months. Gold watch prices have been flat more or less. Just my 2 cents.

Interesting discussion, Bear. As I said in HT, the steel 6-digit Pepsi is one that I would consider against other watches up to 18k USD street price. In other words, if I had 18k to spend, I would give it real consideration. On the other hand, I wouldn't look at any Rolex if I had 33k to spend. I'd be looking at Breguet, Lange, and Laurent Ferrier. So for me, the steel Pepsi is a better value for money at secondary prices.

Great video and two very nice watches 👍 I have never owned a precious metal watch and I probably never will. But seeing these two side by side makes me perfectly content with that. There is something special with this watch on the jubilee that just clicks. That just seems right, if you know what I mean. It’s like the watch was born to be on that jubilee, or the jubilee was born to be on that watch 😊 And one thing that always made me doubt when longing for a watch on the oyster are the polished center links. I have nothing against scratches on my watches, but I’ve seen horribly scratched up oysters and that’s because the polished center link is actually quite big and takes all the hits on the bracelet. The jubilee also has polished center links but because of the small size of these you can barely notice scratches. I think (don’t know, just think) that the jubilee will look better after a couple of years and will need far less polishing in the long run 😊 Anyway, great job. Love the intro 👌

@berlintimepieces45944 жыл бұрын
Great video. I agree with you and want to disagree at the same time. Basically, the decision depends on even more aspects. For example: what does your collection look like. Most Rolex sportmodels are on the oysterband. The stainless steel Pepsi on the Jubilee is therefore a nice contrast. The material value of the gold in no way justifies the high selling price. Neither at list price nor on the secondary market. I believe that you and I appreciate the gold models from a very privileged situation. I have 3 Subs in my collection. The Sub no date, the Hulk and the Smurf. I love the no date, I have the Hulk because I'm a collector and I wear the Smurf when I'm feeling particularly comfortable. Not to feel special, but when I feel special. The weight and the special sheen of white gold put a smile on my face. But if you don't have the money for such watches, then I would still recommend the steel version. The effect is then the same as for us with white gold. However, I would always buy from an AD and never on the secondary market. And believe me it is possible. But you need to develop a relationship. You must be passionate about watches and not about making money out of it. But who I‘m telling that. Keep up the good work.

People who know their watches will notice a white gold version. People who don’t know their watches will only notice yellow gold but at the same time probably think it’s fake anyway. You buy gold for yourself since the gold in the watch will only represent 30% of the value of the watch. The rest of the price difference between gold and steel is just extra money in the bank for Rolex. Bottom line: who cares what other people think 😉
